The feeding habits of post-larval Yatabe blenny Parablennius yatabei (2.0-9.8 mm SL) were examined on the basis of 158 individuals collected from June to October in the coastal waters of eastern Jinhae Bay, South Korea. Based on the index of relative importance (IRI), post-larval P. yatabei fed 94.4% on copepods and 5.6% on tintinnids. The preference of post-larval P. yatabei for copepods to other prey items results from ontogenetic changes. The dietary percentage of copepods increased as fish size increased and tintinnids became less important. The feeding rate of post-larval P. yatabei was consistent at all times of day.
Rheological Behaviors of White and Brown Rice Flours During In-vitro Simulation of Starch Digestion

The in-vitro starch digestibility of white and brown rice flours was continuously characterized from a rheological point of view. Specifically, the in-vitro viscosities of the rice digesta samples were monitored under simulated oral, gastric, and intestinal conditions. A trend of decreasing viscosities in all the digesta samples was observed during the in-vitro digestion. After cooking, the brown rice sample exhibited lower viscosity than that of the white rice flour due to the presence of more non-starch components. A similar tendency was observed during the simulated oral and gastric digestions. However, the viscosity crossover between the white and brown rice samples was observed during intestinal digestion. In addition, the amount of glucose released from the brown rice flour was significantly lower than that from the white rice flour. Thus, the slower rate of starch hydrolysis in the brown rice flour could be related to its in-vitro rheological behaviors.
한국 성인의 김치 섭취와 대사증후군과의 상관성: 2007∼2012년 국민건강영양조사 자료 분석

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Kimchi intake and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in Korean adults (over 19 years old), using data from the Korean National Health & Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES), 2007∼2012. A total of 30,630 participants were analyzed in this study. Metabolic syndrome was diagnosed using the NCEP ATP III criteria standards. Out of the 30,630 participants, 8,230 (23.45%) had meatabolic syndrome. When the subjects were grouped by their Kimchi intake, those who consumed a sufficient amount (36.0∼82.125 g) showed a lower prevalence of metabolic syndrome (P<0.001). However, multiple logistic regression analysis results after adjusting for sex and age, exercise status, smoking status, drinking status, energy intake, income level, occupation, area, frequency of eating-out, showed that the Kimchi intake did not significantly affect the odds ratio of metabolic syndrome. High sodium contents of Kimchi was the major cause of various cardiovascular diseases, and was associated with the hypertension risk factors of the metabolic syndrome. However, in this study, the Kimchi intake, even after adjusting sodium intake, did not have negative influence on the development of metabolic syndrome.
경남 거제 연안에 출현하는 살망둑 (Gymnogobius heptacanthus) 치어의 식성

2011년 6월에서 8월까지 거제 연안에서 RN80으로 채집된 살망둑 (Gymnogobius heptacanthus) 치어 229개체의 소환관 내용물 조성을 조사하였다. 살망둑 치어의 체장은 14~29 mm의 범위를 보였으며, 요각류 (Copepoda)가 가장 우점한 먹이생물이었다. 요각류 다음으로는 만각류 (Cirripedia)의 Cypris 유생이 우점하였으며, 그 외 지각류 (Cladocera), 십각류 (Decapoda) 등도 섭식하였으나 그 양은 많지 않았다. 살망둑 치어의 섭식 전략과 섭식패턴을 알아보기 위하여 도해적방법을 이용한 결과, 요각류 중 긴노요각목 (Calanoida)이 출현빈도와 특정먹이 생물우점도에서 가장 높게 나타나 살망둑 치어는 긴노요각목을 가장 우점적으로 섭식하는 종임을 알 수 있었다. 살망둑 치어는 모든 체장군에서 요각류를 주로 섭식하였으며, 요각류 중 긴노요각목이 가장 우점하였다. The feeding habits of juvenile (14.0~29.0 mm SL) of Gymnogobius heptacanthus were examined based on 229 individuals, that collected from June to August 2011 in the coastal water of Geoje, Korea. G. heptacanthus fed mainly on copepods which constituted 96.74% in IRI. Barnacle larvae were the second largest dietary component. Its diet also included small quantities of tintinnids, cladocerans and decapods. Graphical analysis of the diet composition showed that G. heptacanthus is a specialized predator characterized by strong individual feeding specialization. Especially copepods were heavily selected by of juvenile G. heptacanthus regardless of prey availability.
