The aim of this study was to appraise the influence of conventional periodontal treatment on metabolic control in Korean type 2 diabetic patients. In addition, their periodontal change was compared with non-diabetic patients. Before and after treatment, it was performed to measure periodontal and metabolic indices in thirteen type 2 diabetic patients. Periodontal indices included plaque index, gingival index, bleeding on probing, probing pocket depth, gingival recession, and clinical attachment level. Metabolic indices included glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c), fasting plasma glucose, fasting plasma insulin, total cholesterol, triglyceride, and HDL-cholesterol. Plaque index, gingival index, bleeding on probing, probing pocket depth, and gingival recession showed significant improvements in the statistics. Diabetic patients showed no statistically significant differences in the changes of periodontal indices compared with non-diabetic patients. HbA1c values decreased in five of the thirteen subjects and fasting plasma glucose levels were reduced in four of the seven subjects after periodontal treatment. All five subjects whom HOMA values were calculated in showed the increases of insulin secretions. The results of this study ascertained the possibility of the better glycemic contol after conventional periodontal treatment in Korean type 2 diabetic patients and diabetes were well healed of their periodontal diseases after the treatment.
Many countries have carried out various policies about sustainable building to protect the earth against the global warming and environmental pollution. Korea government has also executed the Green Building Certification Criteria(GBCC). In order to keep the performances of certificated buildings sustainable, the effective building maintenance is quite necessary. Therefore, The purpose of this study is to find direction for the improvement of management categories of Korea Green Building Certification Criteria. For this aim, GBCC was compared with the foreign certification systems such as LEED, BREEAM and CASBEE.
Light has been considered as one of the most important elements in architectural design. Light provides occupants in buildings a lot of architectural experiences by interrelating the space, shape and other design elements. Especially, natural light is the valuable source to create the better indoor space compared to artificial light. It is a sustainable energy source and offers a more natural environment. It also enables occupants to perceive the form an depth of space. In general. many of architects including Henri Ciriani have tried to design buildings with natural light expecting optimum indoor environment. Therefore, this paper tried to examine the works of Henri Ciriani and analyze how to control the light in his works. For this purpose, two museums designed by Henri Ciriani-Arles Museum of Archaeology and Great War Historical Museum in Peronne ? were selected to analyze how Henri Ciriani used light in his design phase and applied it to his museum works. According to the results of the study, it has been proved that Henri Ciriani tried to realize a space continuum through the spatial expansion, openness and closeness by natural light and incorporate the architectural form, interior space and exhibition circulation with natural light in order to create innovative exhibition space in museum buildings.
Livy deserves new attention in this post-Modern period. From the 17th century he was a target of the scientific criticism and his narration of ancient Rome had been treated as a kind of fable. But the recent archaeological researches show the historicity of his narrations relating to the earliest period. Besides the values above mentioned, it is true that his work has been read and appraised by readers until now. First I focused on the personality of Livy. He kept his peculiar nativity of his home town, Padua, in writing history. His expressions reveal also a consistent attitude for Pompey albeit the familiarity with Augustus. He wanted to console the readers by diverting their minds to the ancient history from the contemporary situations. In this came a history of his own version, a product of frankness and candor, free from the political powers in transition. The content of his books can be identified a panegyric of Ancient Rome. He praised the heroes and people of the ancient times and pointed the importance of the education for the future. Sometime he assumed that Augustus might be a rebuilder of the Ancient Rome, but at last found out the impossibility of the rebirth. He was aware both of the personal merits in politics and of the unsurpassable changes. So his history can be a description of personal activity in recognition of the contextual structure. Such a dramatic characterization fascinated many readers. He did not follow one way of explanation; rather, he showed divergences of authors. But he chose the suitable one based on the principle of a meaningful series of scenes, as in the episode of the elephants crossing the river. Naturally his style became very complex, in order to deliver the personal character vividly with all kinds of styles. Finally his influence was not only on the contemporary writers but also on the Renaissance humanists. Especially his focus on the human characters attracted many scholars, who accepted Livy as a model instead of Tacitus. According to Niebuhr, there were few authors who have exercised an influence like that of Livy. He has been regarded as the historian for long after his work. Now it is necessary to research the method and style of Livy and to publish a Korean version in order to make a concept of history suitable for the 21st century. In order to keep the performances of certificated buildings sustainable, the effective building maintenance is quite necessary. Meanwhile, the foreign green building certification systems have considered the building maintenance as one of the most important items to keep the building performance effective. However, Green Building Certification Criteria(GBCC) of Korea has not had the sufficient criteria for the maintenance of green building. Purpose: The concept of the tectonic has researched to find out the identify of modern architecture. The meaning of traditional tectonic knowledge to emphasize structural joints and attention to detail in creativity has developed in various ways in contemporary architecture. The purpose of this study is to analyze the tectonic characteristics and architectural expressions of the light appeared in the works of Santiago Calatrava. Major features in his works could be found is to maximize structural beauties through deducing the architectural images from the nature and expressing the material properties and the kinetic structures, and thus, to ultimately create the functional space and form by connecting the light to the tectonic structure. Method: Accordingly, I tried to analyze the three works of Santiago Calatrava (the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Bodegas Ysios Winery and the City and Arts and Sciences) as following categories - the structural aesthetics, the expression of material properties, the relationship between he kinetic structures and the light. Result: According to the results of the study, Santiago Calatrava tried to create his own architectural aesthetic by combining structural tectonic with nature, material, regional place and culture. He also sought to express the tense and dynamic tectonic rather than the stable one in his works.
Purpose: This paper tried to understand the architectural concept of Neo Corbusian architects who had succeed to the Le Corbusier's principles of modern architecture and developed into their own creative architecture and formed a big achievement in the contemporary architecture. As representative Neo Corbusian architects, Henri Cirianni, Alvaro Siza and Laurant Beaudouin were selected to study their own design concepts and principles. Method: Three step study was conducted for the paper; Firstly, investigated significant differences about modern architecture between Le Corbusier and three neo corbusian architects; Secondly, analyzed the architectural meanings of ‘Plan Libre' and ‘Promenade Architecture' of three neo corbusian compared to Le Corbusier's ones; Finally, deducted their own design process to integrate the architectural concept of ‘Plan Libre', ‘Promenade Architecture' and ‘Natural Light into architectural design. Results: According to the results of the research, Henri Cirianni, Alvaro Siza and Laurant Beaudouin made a splendid progress of Corbusier's modern concept, and then, created his own originative architecture by combining Plan Libre', ‘Promenade Architecture' and ‘Natural Light.
