The vapor-liquid equilibrium and miscibility measurement apparatus was developed and used to obtain data for refrigerant/oil mixture. The vapor-liquid equilibrium and miscibility data for R-410a/POE32 and R-410A/POE46 oil mixtures are obtained over the temperature range from -20 to $60^{\circ}C\;with\;10^{\circ}C$</TEXT> intervals and the oil concentration range from 0 to 90 wt%. Using the experimental data, an empirical model is developed to predict the temperature-pressure-concentration relations for R-410A/POE oil mixtures at equilibrium. In the R-410A/POE32 oil mixture, the average root-mean-square deviation between measured data and calculated results from the empirical model is 2.00% and in the R-410a/POE46 oil mixture, that is 3.69%. Flory-Huggins theory is also used to predict refrigerant/oil mixture behavior. Miscibility for R-410A/POE32 oil mixture was observed all over the experimental conditions. Immiscibility for R-410A/POE46 oil mixture was observed at the low oil concentrations(10~30 wt%).

R-410A, R-407C, and four refrigerant mixtures composed of R-32, R-l34a, R-l43a, R-l52a, R-600(butane), and R-600a(isobutane) were tested in an attempt to replace R-22 used in most of the residential air conditioners. The performance evaluation was carried out in a psychrometric calorimeter test facility using a residential spilt type air conditioner under the KS rating conditions. Except for the lubricant and hand-operated expansion valve, the other parts of the air conditioner were the same with the commercial system. Performance characteristics were measured; COP, capacity, compressor power, and VCR. R-410A was shown to have 5.5% higher COP and 3.5% lower capacity than R-22. R-32/134a/600a (42.8/ 46.0/11.2 wt%) mixture have the best performance among the four refrigerant mixtures composed of hydrofluorocarbon and hydrocarbon. This inixture have 3.0% lower COP and 1.6% lower capacity than R-22.

Performance charts of capillary tubes for R-134a are presented. The calculation is based on the one-dimensional, adiabatic flow through capillary tube. The length of capillary tube changes with inlet pressure, mass flux, inlet quality(or subcooling), and inside diameter. The length for R-134a is shorter by 12.5~23% than that for R-12 as mass flux varies, by 13~18.5% as inlet pressure changes, by 15~15.2% as inside diameter changes, and by 3.6~20% as subcooling(or quality) changes. In general, the length for R-134a is shorter than that for R-12 by 10~20%. Pressure drop per unit length for R-134a is greater than that for R-12 since specific volume of R-134a is larger that of R-12 and vapor pressure of R-134a is greater than that of R-12. Flash point of R-134a is ahead of that of R-12.

Vapor-liquid equilibrium apparatus is designed and set up. The vapor-liquid equilibrium data of the binary system HFC32/134a are measured in the range between 258.15 and 283.15K at compositions of 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 mole fraction of HFC32. Twenty-two equilibrium data are obtained. Based upon the present data, the binary interaction parameter for Carnahan-Starling-De Santis equation of state is calculated. Temperature range of data is extended to 313.04K using the data in the open literatures. Interaction parameters are determined at nine isotherms.

The solubility and miscibility measurement apparatus has been developed and used to obtain data for refrigerant/oil mixture. The solubility and miscibility data for R-134a/46 ISO VG Polyalkylen Glycol(PAG) oil mixture are obtained over the temperature range from -20 to 6$0^{\circ}C$ with a 1$0^{\circ}C$ interval and the oil concentration range from 0 to 90wt%. Using the experimental data, an empirical model is developed to predict the solubility relations for R-134a/PAG oil mixture at equilibrium. The average root-mean-square deviation between measured data and calculated results from the empirical model is 4.2%. Raoult's rule and Flory-Noggins theory are also used to predict mixture behavior. Immiscibility is observed for R-134a/46 ISO VG PAG oil mixture at low oil concentrations of 4.6, 10.1, and 20.4wt%.

Vapor-liquid equilibrium apparatus is designed and set up. The vapor-liquid equilibrium data of the binary system HFC125/134a are measured in the range between 268.15 and 283.15K at five compositions. Twenty-five equilibrium data are obtained. To verify consistency of these data, they are tested for thermodynamic consistency. Based upon the present data, the binary interaction parameter for CSD and RKS equation of state is calculated at five isotherms and comparison with the data in the open literatures is made. Results of Nagel and Bier are in very good agreements with those from this study within 0.32∼1.11% for bubble point pressure and -0.66∼0.18% for vapor mole fraction.

Vapor-liquid equilibrium apparatus is designed and set up. The equilibrium data of two binary systems, HFC-32/143a and HFC-143a/134a, are measured. Fifteen equilibrium data for HFC-32/143a and HFC-143a/134a systems are measured over the temperature range 263.15~283.15K at 10K interval and the composition range 0.10~0.80, respectively. And vapor-liquid equilibrium data are calculated using equation of state and correlation of activity coefficient and compared with the present data. Equation of state is used CSD and RKS equations and correlation of activity coefficient is used Margules' and Van Ness and Abbott's correlations. Real behavior of HFC-32/143a system has very large deviation with Raoult's rule which is ideal behavior. But real behavior of HFC-143a/134a system is similar to ideal behavior. The calculated data from CSD equation are compared with the data in the open literatures and the calculated data from REFPROP. In the results for REFPROP, the relative deviations of bubble point pressure for HFC-32/143a system are within -2.16~0.84% for CSD equation and within -0.20~1.10% for RKS equation. And the relative deviations of bubble point pressure for HFC-143a/134a system are within -0.45~0.12% and -0.20~2.8% for CSD and RKS equations, respectively.
