The incidence of coronary heart disease has long been known to be increased among geriatrics. The authors had an opportunity to analyze 100 cases of electrocardiographic recording over age of 60 without clinically appreciable organic heart diseases and another 100 cases of electrocardiographic tracing in middle aged group (below age of 60) who were apparently not having organic heart disease. 100 cases of geriatrics were consisting of 52 males and 48 females, the mean age of present series was 65. 2 with a range of 60 to 79 years. Another 100 cases in middle aged group were consisting of 46 males and 54 females, the mean age 41. 5, with a range of 21 to 59 years. The reading method of electrocardiogram was based on Minnesota code and Higgins criteria was applied for the diagnosis of coronary heart disease. The following conclusions were drawn: 1. Of the 100 cases of geriatrics, in 16 cases (16%) the positive findings of Higgins electrocardiographic criteria for coronary heart disease was found while only 8 cases (8%) were to be positive in middle aged group, thus the positive ratio between geriatrics and middle age group was 2:1. Not a single case with positive criteria was found in middle aged group below age of 39. 2. The ratio of incidence of positive criteria among male and female was 2.5:1.
