Myeong Hwan (... ) is Chinese patent medicine which is used for presbyopia and eye disease. It consistsof 23 kinds of powdered crude drugs. In powdered crude drugs, it is hard to identify each component by chemical analysis ormorphological examination. However, the method of identification of powdered crude drugs has not been clearly established.as it requires only a small amount of specimens. Ah Myeong Dan (兒明丹) is Chinese patent medicine which is used for congenital fever and congenital boils in Korea. It consists of 11 kinds of powdered crude drugs. In powdered crude drugs, it is hard to identify each component by chemical analysis or morphological examination. However, the method of identification of powdered crude drugs has not been clearly established. Therefore, it is of interest to establish the microscopic method for identification of powdered crude drugs of Chinese patent medicines. The effectiveness of microscopic method is exemplified by the identification of tissue and contents of crude drugs by comparison with standard drugs. In this study, it is demonstrated that the microscopic method is very effective for the identification of 11 crude drug ingredients in Ah Myeong Dan.

Che Whan(... )” is a Chinese patent medicine which has been used for gastric ulcer and digestive disorderin Korea. It consists of 15 kinds of powdered crude drugs. Ryeo Hwan(... ) is Chinese patent medicine which has been used for womens diseases and climactericsyndrome in Korea. It consists of 12 kinds of powdered crude drugs. In powdered crude drugs, it is hard to identify each com-has not been clearly established. Therefore, it is of interest to establish the microscopic method for identification of powderedcrude drugs of Chinese patent medicines. Korean folk medicine 'Koaeng I Bab' has been used to cure hemorrhoid, boil and dermatopathy and as an antidote. The botanical origin of the crude drug has not been studied pharmacognostically. To clarify the botanical origin of 'Koaeng I Bab', the morphological and anatomical characteristics of the leaves of Oxalis species growing in Korea, i.e. O. acetosella, O. acetosella var. purpurascens, O. corniculata, O. obtriangulata were studied. As the result, the botanical origin of 'Koaeng I Bab' has been proved to be O. corniculata and O. acetosella var. purpurascens.

'Yang Mi Ryung Whan' is a Chinese patent medicine, which has been used for paramenia, dysmenorrhea, abdominal distention, psychroalgia in the limbs and so on which is due to extravasated blood. This medicine consists of 17 kinds of powdered crude drugs. For the identification of individual ingredients in such powdery mixtures, microscopic method may advantageously be used as it requires only a small amount of specimens. In this paper, the effectiveness of this method is exemplified by the identification of the ingredients in Yang Mi Ryung Whan which contains 17 powered crude drug ingredients.

Geo Pung Ji Bo Dan ( 風至寶丹) is a Chinese patent medicine, which has been used for various purposes in Korea. Geo Pung Ji Bo Dan is composed 26 kinds of powdered crude drugs and has been used for palsy and mental disorder. For the identification of individual crude drugs in such powdery mixtures, microscope method may advantageously be used as it require only a small amount of specimens. In this study, it is demonstrated that the microscopic method is very effective for the identification of 26 crude drug ingredients in Geo Pung Ji Bo Dan.

In powdered crude drugs, it is hard to identify each component by chemical analysis or morphological examination. However, the method of identification of powdered crude drugs has not been clearly established. For the identification of individual crude drugs in such powdery mixtures, microscopic method may advantageously be used as it requires only a small amount specimens. In this study, it is demonstrated that the microscopic method is very effective for the identification of 14 crude drug ingredients in Hwan So Dan.

An Chung Hwan is composed of 15 kinds of powdered crude drugs and has been used for stomachic disorder, acute and chronic indigestion, dyspepsia, and diarrhea. For the identification of individual crude drugs in such powdery mixtures, microscopic method may advantageously be used as it requires only a small amount of specimens. In this study, it is demonstrated that the microscopic method is very effective for the identification of 15 crude drug ingredients in An Chung Hwan.
