Vol.6 No.1

It seems true that the old novel Un-Young-Jun has special significance in the respect that this work represents well the reality of mind above other works in that times. All of the works that was took shape in the period of idealism under the feudual Confucianism, are brought to happyends in the conclusion. But, the hero in this work fall into the extreme misfortune notwithstanding such the tendency said above. In this theses the motives of hero's action. the adjustment as the wishfulfillment out of the frustration in his actions, the contents and the characteristics of fantasy as substitute adjustment mechanism, and literary results were brought into research through exhaustive investigation by the means of psychology. First, what we call, the end of unhappiness in this work, contribute to aethetic structure through the reflection of the reality in hero's mind, however, brought into failure in the accomplishing creative faculty, then it was extremely inclined toi-ard a sentimentalism. Whe can see that this work made an unvalance between representational faculty and creative inquiry, namely an typical deformity of literary work. Second, literary significance of this work does not laid on the importance of love but on the fact that how individual about circumstance grounding him is going to adjust, and how his internal conflict and agony of real-life between the two outlook on the world he resolves? Third, the setting of this story is court circles, nevertheless, core meaning of thought lie hidden deeply is universal thing between man and society, (organism ver. circumstances), in this work it come rather out representatively or sibmolically on the surface.

Vol.16 No.1

Okdanchoon-Yo is the Korean folk song that was transformed from one of the Korean old novel, Soogyung-Nangja-Jun. In this paper, I researched into the background and the factors of transformation and the aspects of it. Next, I considered the characteristic of Okdanchoon-Yo. The results are roughly as follows: It seems to me that the background of transformation was the female world. in which they took much delight in both reading novels and sing folk songs, and factors of it was the lack of time to read novel and the dissatisfaction to. aristocratic contents. The changed things are the shortening in length, the change from dualistic world view to monistic one by eleminating the supernatural etements, the emphasis on hardships and cutting the distance between the work and the. singers or reading public. Okdanchoon-Yo as a result of transformation is very good narrative folk song that reflect the hard life and consciousness of common people. Eo-Mun-Lon-Chong

Vol.11 No.1

Joosaeng-Jun(周生學) is an old Korean novel that was written by Kwun-Pil (權필) in the sixteenth centuries. There has never been any study of this work except for some brief surveys. Hence, I analyzed this work in full-scale under such aspects as: (1) some external problems (2) structure and theme (3) atmosphere (4) aesthetic characteristic Of these, the first is a preparatory consideration about the facts around this work, and the rests are the concrete analysis about this work. Specially, in the latter, I put stress on the analysis of structure and theme, considering the analysis of atmosphere and aesthetic characteristic as secondary problems.

Vol.39 No.-

The tale about Mt. Baegwol in The Heritage of the Three States is a part of the longer tale about the two sage Boo-deuk and Bak-bak. But it is a complete legend that can be separated from the longer tale. It seems that The tale about Mt. Baegwol was actually handed down as an independent type at first, and was gradully attached to the tale about two sage afterwards. The structure of this legend has a confrontation between Silla and Dang. Silla makes a display of greatness of his national land, on the contrary, Dang surprises that greatness. In this stricture, the friendly relation between Silla and Dang includes antagonistic relationship. This legend has a double meaning. One is general or national In general meaning, the other religious or Buddhist meaning. In general or national meaning, one body(or root) of Sam-san denotes a unitary nation in the Korean Peninsula and the three peaks of it denote three state in those Peninsula. Saja-am denotes mighty of nation. And the flowers in the mountain denote the beauty of national culture. A footwear of envoy on Saja-am denotes arrogance and despotism of Dang. In the religious or Buddhist meaning, Sam-san denotes Sambo in Buddhism, that is, Buddha, law of Buddhist. Saja-am denotes Sajajwa, that is, the chair on which Buddha sit. The flowers denote audiences who hear Buddhist sermon. Of course, these Buddhist meanings were shady illuminated by many precedent researches.

Vol.8 No.1

The old novel that reflect Confucian ideology has an dualistic outlook on the world (natural world and supernatural world, present world and future world) notwithstanding Confucianism has monistic one (natural world or present world) The immediate cause that brought about this ironical phenomenon, we can, of cause, seek for in the influence of Daoism or Buddhism. However another important cause we can seek for in the Confucianism itself. It is the thing that the excessive dogma in the Confucian morals dominated the people's function of recognition. It seems that the old people misconceive natural law ie phenomenal truth and normative law for one thing. These two different things are very often discord in our actual world. Then, the world is very imperfect in the aspect of order. A scepticism from the thing said above, eventually, brought about the variation of the outlook on the world. That variation was that they shifted the monistic outlook on the world into dualistic one. They revised tacitly the monism of Confucianism into the dualism of Daoism or Buddhism, holding past to their Confucian morals.
