Vol.25 No.-
This article is an exploratory discussion on the relationship between language, emotion, and collective action. Emotion is an essential energy that triggers, strengthens and sustains social movements(collective action). In this process, language plays a key role in creating and expanding the ‘emotional frame’ defining a particular group of world view and practice style. Language, emotion, and collective action form an indivisible triangular axis. This article has paid an attention to the anti-impeachment movement of Park, Geun-hye, the 18th president in Republic of Korea, so called ‘Taegukgi protest’. Participants in ‘Taegukgi protest’ called themselves as ‘patriotic citizens’. They sang the military songs with the slogan of defeating the leftists of the North, aiming to defend the Republic of Korea, claiming against the impeachment, waving Taegeukgi(national flag of Korea) and the national flag of USA. Emotions such as fear, anger, self-esteem, and ‘joy of the crowd’ etc. were complicatedly intermingled and interpenetrated in this protest.
