        Mucocele involving the paranasal sinuses are commonly occurring lesions. The literature shows that the frontal, ethmoid, and sphenoid sinuses are most frequently involved, in that order, whereas involvement of the maxillary sinus is relatively rare1. Mucopyocele, mucocele in which the mucous secretion has become purulent, are less common in the maxillary sinus. The following case report is of interest because of the relative rarity of this destructive infla-mmatory process in the maxillary sinus and because, as in this patient, the lesion can sometimes be confused with a malignant neoplasm.

        Duodenal Perforation: Unusual Complication of Gastrostomy Tube Replacement

        Feeding gastrostomy is widely used for children with feeding impairment. The replacement of gastrostomy tube is known as an easy and safe procedure. However, various complications associated with replacement of gastrostomy tube were reported, including fistula disruption and colo-cutaneous fistula. For replacement of gastrostomy tube in small children with small stomach, special cautions are needed. Here, we report a rare case of duodenal perforation as an acute complication after the replacement of gastrostomy tube for a 33-month-old girl.

        How Should the Pyloric Submucosal Mass Coexisting with Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis Be Treated?: A Case of Pyloric Ectopic Pancreas with Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis

        Co-existing pyloric submucosal masses with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPS) are very rare and treating these lesions is always a problem. A 20-day-old boy presented with recurrent episodes of projectile non-bilious vomiting lasting for 5 days. HPS was suspected due to the presenting age and the symptoms. The sonography demonstrated not only circumferential wall thickening of the pylorus, but also a pyloric submucosal mass. At laparotomy, a 0.8 cm sized pyloric submucosal mass was identified along with a hypertrophied pylorus. Pyloric excision was performed due to the possibility of sustaining the symptoms and malignancy. The pathological report of the submucosal mass was ectopic pancreas. Coexisting pyloric lesions can be diagnosed along with HPS, and surgical excision, not just pyloromyotomy, should be considered in these circumstances. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report of pyloric ectopic pancreas and HPS to be diagnosed concurrently.

      • 다중스레드 구조상에서 객체지향 함수형 언어의 구현

        객체지향 함수형 언어는 병렬 컴퓨터 상에서 실행될 수 있는 응용 프로그램의 범위를 넓혀주는 반면, 병렬 프로그램의 작성은 쉽게 하는 병렬 프로그래밍 언어이다. 객체지향 함수형 언어는 함수형 언어와 객체지향 언어의 장점을 결합하여, 재사용이 가능하면서 최대한의 병렬성 표현이 가능한 코드를 작성할 수 있으며, 다중 스레드 구조상에서 효과적으로 수행될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 다중 스레드 구조상에서 병렬 프로그래밍 언어로 활용되고 있는 함수형 언어인 Id에 객체지향 개념을 혼합한 객체지향 함수형 언어, OOId를 제안하고, 이를 다중스레드 구조인 DAVRID상에서 효과적으로 실행시키기 위한 구현 기법을 제안하였다. 또한 부가된 객체지향 개념이 실행시간에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. Object - Oriented Functional language is an implicitly parallel programming language designed to allow a wide range of applications to be implemented on parallel machines while simplifying parallel programming for programmers. Object-Oriented Functional language combines the advantages of functional and Object-Oriented programming language, to express maximum parallelism and write reusable programs. This paper proposes an implementation technique of Object-Oriented Functional language on the multithreaded architecture, DAVRID, and analysis of the result. and suggests a new Object-Oriented Functional language, OOId, which expands the functional language, Id, with Object-Oriented concepts.

        Two Cases of Infantile Intra-abdominal Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor

        Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is rare mesenchymal solid tumor that consists of proliferating myofibro-blasts with an inflammatory infiltrate background. It has a very low prevalence in infants and occurs mainly in children and young adults. IMT are mainly located in the thoracic cavity, but intra-abdominal lesions are rare. IMT can exhibit locally aggressive neoplastic processes and metastases similar to malignancies, so, have clinical importance. Herein, we describe two infantile intra-abdominal IMT cases presenting with incidentally found palpable abdominal mass. A 4-month-old male infant had IMT at the ileal mesentery and a 5-month-old male infant had IMT at liver. Both cases were successfully treated by complete surgical resection without complication or recurrence. Considering the biological behavior of the intermediate type of neoplasm in IMT, we expect good survivals when achieving appro-priate surgical resection without adjuvant therapy in infantile intra-abdominal IMT.

      • 소아 횡격막 질환의 임상적 고찰

        Congenital diaphragmatic disease is one of the common major congenital anomalies, and its mortality remained still high despite recent medical advances. The aim of this study is to examine the clinical characteristics of congenital diaphragmatic diseases. A total of 39 patients with congenital diaphragmatic disease that underwent surgery from January, 1997 to December, 2009 at Pusan National University Hospital were included in this study. Medical records were retrospectively reviewed. The male to female ratio was 30:9. Six out of 39 cases died (NS) before surgery, 17 patients had Bochdalek's hernia (BH), 11 patients hiatus hernia (HH), 4 diaphragmatic eventration (DE), and 1 Morgagni hernia (MH). There were no differences in mean birth weight and mean gestational age. NS (83.3 %). BH (35.3 %) was diagnosed more frequently than other diseases in the prenatal period. Three patients (17.6 %) of BH expired due to pulmonary hypoplasia and 1 patient had co-existing congenital heart disease. BH was diagnosed more frequently in the prenatal stage and had a higher motality rate than other conditions. Therefore, BH needs to be concentrated more than other anomalies.

        Crude oil, as one of the most important source of energy, has been ceaselessly been produced and been utilized around the globe. While the experts expect that there’s limited amount of crude oil left to be produced, an unconventional oil (shale oil) has emerged into the market. According to EIA (Energy Information Administration), shale oil production of U.S. is relentlessly increasing, and this trend is likely to last for newt few decades. This paper will identify certain unique features of U.S. shale industry that makes them number one shale oil producers in the world as well as its impact in oil price. It will also examine some of the directions other shale owning countries must take in order to implement a successful shale development.

        60세 이상 국가유공자의 음주관련 건강 특성

        Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate alcohol drinking related health characteristics for improvement of life stability and well-being in war veterans. Methods: The research design was a descriptive survey design with a convenience sample. Data collection was performed using self-report questionnaires and included 163 veterans who were >60 years old and who visited a cardio- vascular medicine out-patient department. The process of a change in drinking consciousness was investigated together with healthy action changes, including drinking temptation and deciding to drink alcohol. Results: Failing at work was the greatest drinking temptation. The subjects knew that if they drank continuously, they would become addicted to alcohol. Most subjects experienced mental stress and difficulty living. Conclusion: These findings indicate that access to an evidence-based treatment program and systems of care should be provided for veterans who drink alcohol and have other health conditions and illnesses.

        Multilayer Polymer Light-Emitting Diode Based on a Water Soluble Non-conjugated Polymer with Metal Ions

        We have fabricated a polymer light-emitting diode (PLED) from a conventional blue-emitting polymer, polyfluorene (PFO), by constructing a multilayer structure with a metal-ion containing water- soluble non-conjugated polymer, polyurethane with Cs+ ions (PU: Cs+), on the top of the PFO. The device with the PU: Cs+ layer shows a maximum luminance of 4900 cd/m2 at an applied voltage of 10 V while the one without the PU: Cs+ layer shows only 2600 cd/m2 at the same applied voltage. We propose that improved device performance with the PU: Cs+ layer is due to not only an effective hole blocking at the polymer-polymer interface but also an increase in electron injection because of Coulomb attraction between the ions and electrons. We will discuss the effect of the multilayer polymer structure in a PLED in terms of the current/voltage characteristics, the luminance, and the quantum efficiency as functions of the applied bias.
