Mathematical models to forecast urban water demand are developed from analysis of past water consumption and its factors which are related to the urban water use patterns. Consumption of urban water is influenced by many factors, including population, price, consumer income, regional cultural behavior, the configuration of commercial and civic uses and climatic considerations. 33 explanatory variables are then analysed and correlated with the dependent variables by the processes of factor analysis and multiple regression analysis. Total gross and per capita municipal water demands are considered as dependent variables for which forecasting demand models are to be developed. Both linear and log-linear forms are considered in this study the effects of explanatory variables on the dependent variables are assumed to be either additive or multiplicative. Linear models are, in general, more appropriate than log-linear models for both single city models and multiple cities models.

Process Optimization for Dual Laser Beam Joining for Dissimilar Plastics

A dual laser beam joining process is introduced for joining dissimilar plastics. A customized laser head was built, and two different diode lasers with central wavelengths of 980 and 1940 nm were simultaneously applied to obtain PMMA/PC-1 and PC-2/ABS joints. Various experimental conditions were employed for the dual laser beam joining, which were performed at different laser powers for the 1940 nm laser beam and a fixed laser power for the 980 nm laser beam. The tensile shear force of the PMMA/PC-1 and PC-2/ABS joints was measured, and compared with those using the 980 nm single laser beam joining process. For both joints, a decrease in tensile shear force was observed when the laser power of the 1940 nm laser beam increased. Only the dual laser beam joining using the 1940 nm laser beam at the smallest laser power showed relatively higher tensile shear force than those of the 980 nm single laser beam joining. The transmission values of the PMMA and PC-2 at the wavelength of 980 nm were measured with different powers of 1940 nm laser beam, and a correlation between the joining properties and transmission values was found.

This study is to analyze the efficiency of training operation and activities quality with input variables concerned with training operation and output variables concerned with training performance. It analyzed Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) by using inputs of training operation dimensions and outputs of training performance dimensions based upon training evaluation results of the unemployed in 2010. And, it compared best practice organizations through ranking analysis and examined tactics of training by training corporations, training facilities and educational institutes. It has derived significant findings, at first on making the training corporations more efficient than training facilities and educational institutes. It is conformed that 23.5% training institutes of the total run the efficient operation and the highest type institutes with best practice training is educational institutes which help training improvement through benchmarking. The results examined the character of input variables is that it is necessary to reinforce the factors making positive effects of trainee’s support like training instructor's counseling in view of external examiner of input variables. 훈련기관의 운영 및 활동의 효율성 분석을 위해 실업자훈련기관을 대상으로 자료포락기법(DEA : Data Envelopment Analysis)을 이용하여 2010년 훈련기관의 운영성과 평가 측정결과를 기반으로 훈련운영과 관련한 개별적인 요소들을 투입요소로 하고 훈련성과들을 산출요소로 하여 효율성을 분석하였다. 특히, 초효율성 모델을 사용하여 기관별 순위를 확인하고 효율적 기관과 비효율적 기관의 특성을 훈련기관 유형별로 살펴보았다. 훈련기관 유형별 차이를 분석한 결과, 직업훈련법인 유형의 훈련기관이 다른 유형의 훈련기관 보다 효율적으로 운영을 하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 초효율성을 분석한 결과, 대상 훈련기관의 23.9%가 효율적인 운영을 하고 있은 것을 확인되었으며 모범 훈련기관이 가장 많은 기관유형은 학원으로서 이들 훈련기관 중 훈련 운영 및 성과가 우수한 기관을 벤치마킹을 통한 훈련 개선을 도모할 필요가 있다. 또한, 훈련기관이 효율성을 향상시키기 위해 강화해야 할 투입요소를 살펴본 결과, 평가위원에 의한 훈련교사와 상담 등 훈련생 지원 요인이 긍정적 영향을 끼쳐 이들 요인을 보다 강화하여 관리할 필요가 있다.

Ghana’s Quest for External Financial Source

An increasing number of African states are shifting their debts from concessional to non-concessional commercial sources and their external debts are rising. Ghana is a case in point. Drawing on literature studies and interviews, the article offers a historical explanation to the rise in external debts in Ghana by highlighting political intention of Ghanaian elite underlying their loan-seeking decisions in 1983 and 1992. The paper fills the void of mainstream studies on foreign aid, which mainly focus on political intention of donors rather than recipients. Economic and political reform in 1983 and 1992, respectively, reinforced the path of the elite perspective of external loans as a means for their political survival. As long as the path continues, apolitical commercial loans may not be more conducive to economic growth than concessional loans.

Modern furniture is mostly made of panel products such as a glue-up panel, a particle board and a medium density fiberboard(MDF). Warping is a major defect of these panel products resulting in degrading final products. In this study the factors related to the warping of a glue-up panel and MDF were investigated by comparing the physical properties of warped specimens with those of the unwarped. The differences between the moisture contents measured on the both surfaces of specimens were found to mainly influence the warping of glue-up panel specimens whether conditioned or not. The average oven-dry density of warped glue-up panel specimens was definitely higher than that of the unwarped at l% significance level. For MDF the influencing factor on warping has not been revealed yet, however it was found that the conditioning reduced the number of warped specimens.
