Inguinal hernia is the most common disease treated by the pediatric surgeon. There are several controversial aspects of management 1)the optimal timing of surgical repair, especially for preterm babies, 2)contralateral groin exploration during repair of a clinically unilateral hernia, 3)use of laparoscope in contralateral groin exploration, 4)timing of surgical repair of cord hydrocele, 5)perioperative pain control, 6)perioperative management of anemia. In this survey, we attempted to determine the approach of members of KAPS to these aspects of hernia treatment. A questionnaire by e-mail or FAX was sent to all members. The content of the questionnaire were adapted from the "American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Surgery hernia survey revisited (J Pediatr Surg 40, 1009-1014, 2005)". For full-term male baby, most surgeons (85.7 %) perform an elective operation as soon as diagnosis was made. For reducible hernia found in ex-preterm infants already discharged from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), 76.2 % of surgeons performed an elective repair under general anesthesia (85.8 %). 42.9 % of the surgeons performed the repair just before discharge. For same-day surgery for the ex-premature baby, the opinion was evenly divided. For an inguinal hernia with a contralateral undescended testis in a preterm baby, 61.9 % of surgeons choose to 'wait and see' until 12 month of age. The most important consideration in deciding the timing of surgery of inguinal hernia in preterm baby was the existence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (82.4 %), episode of apnea/bradycardia on home monitoring (70.6 %). Most surgeons do not explore the contralateral groin during unilateral hernia repair. Laparoscope has not been tried. Most surgeons do not give perioperative analgesics or blood transfusion.

The authors applied anterior sagittal transrectal apporach (ASTRA) for the repair of urethrovaginal fistula which developed after total repair of persistent cloaca. The patient had been diagnosed to have persistent cloaca, double uterus and double vagina, and received PSARP, excision of right-side uterus and vagina, and left vaginal switch operation at 22 months old. After operation, the patient admitted several times due to frequent urinary tract infection and ectopic stone formation in bladder and neovagina. Urethro-neovaginal fistula was confirmed by cystoscopy and corrected with ASTRA. Postoperative voiding cystourethrogram showed no fistula tract. ASTRA showed improved surgical field, minimized ureterocystic damage, and preserved perirectal nerve due to limited incision of rectum.

New azomethine metal complexes were synthesized systematically and characterized. Beryllium, magnesium, or zinc ions were used as a central metal cation and aromatic azomethines (L1-L4) were employed as a chelating anionic ligand. Emission peaks o f the complexes in both solution and solid states were observed mostly at the region of 400-500 nm in the luminescence spectra, where blue light was emitted. Three of them (BeL1 (Ⅰ), ZnL2 (Ⅱ), and ZnL3 (Ⅲ)) were sublimable and thus were applied to the organic light-emitting devices (OLED) as an emitting layer, respectively. The device including the emitting layer of Ⅰ exhibited white emission with the broad luminescence spectral range. The device with the emitting layer of Ⅱ showed blue luminescence with the maximum emission peak at 460 nm. Their ionization potentials, electron affinities, and electrochemical band gaps were investigated with cyclic voltammetry. The electrochemical gaps of 2.98 for I, 2.70 for Ⅱ, and 2.63 eV for Ⅲ were found to be consistent with their respective optical band gaps of 3.01, 2.95 and 2.61 eV within an experimental error. The structure of OLED manufactured in this study reveals that these complexes can work as electron transporting materials as well.

Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) syndrome is a rare disorder caused by extrinsic compression of the third portion of the duodenum by the SMA. The operative treatment of choice is bypassing the obstructed duodenal segment by duodenojejunostomy. We report one case of SMA syndrome treated by laparoscopic duodenojejunostomy and followed up by 3D-reconstructive CT scan. A fifteen-year-old boy with intermittent vomiting and weight loss was admitted. Ultrasonography showed narrowing of the distance between the SMA and aorta. Hypotonic duodenography showed dilatation of duodenal third portion and barium stasis. On 3Dreconstructive CT scan, the angle between SMA and aorta was $37^{\circ}$. The postoperative course was uneventful. Three months later, he had gained 3 kg of weight and the angle between SMA and aorta increased to $38-39^{\circ}$ on 3D reconstructive CT scan. Laparoscopic duodenojejunostomy for bypassing the obstructive duodenum in SMA syndrome is a feasible and safe method.

Fatigue tests and analyses were carried out to investigate fatigue strength and crack initiation point of load-carrying asymmetric double bevel cruciform welded joints. Mesh-insensitive structural stress approach was adopted to estimate high precise fatigue life and crack initiation point. Two different case material and weld shape were considered in this study. Results of fatigue tests and analyses were compared and discussed in consideration of applicability of structural stress approach as the reliable fatigue assessment method of cruciform welded joints.
표면 프리틸트 제어를 통한 새로운 광시야각 수직 배향 LCD 기술 소개

다중 도메인 수직배향 LCD는 러빙 공정을 필요치 않는 다는 장점에서 출발해 현재 액정 TV 시장에서 주를 이루고 있다. 하지만 현재 사용화 되고 있는 제품들이 투과율, 응답속도, 명암대비율 등 성능부분의 개선이 필요하고 공정 측면에서 돌기를 사용하거나 상판 패턴을 필요로 하는데 이러한 공정을 제거하면서도 성능이 우수한 새로운 형태의 수직배향 LCD가 최근 대두되고 있다. 기 발표된 기술들을 정리해 보면 신기술에서는 액정에 UV curing이 가능한 모노머를 소량 도핑 한 후 적절한 셀 구조를 형성해 전압 인가시 중간에 액정 배열에 충돌이 있더라도 최종적으로 안정한 배열을 갖게 만든 다음 UV조사를 통해 양 기판 표면에 모노머가 고분자화되면서 액정 배향 방향과 프리틸트각을 갖게 하도록 만든다. 이러한 신개념의 수직배향 LCD는 종래 LCD에 비해 전기광학 특성이 우수해지고 제조공정도 단순해져 향후 수직배향 LCD의 주를 이룰 것으로 예상된다. 더불어 수직배향 기술은 해마다 새로운 진화를 하고 있으며 앞으로 더 진화를 할 것으로 예상되어 이 부분에 대한 적극적인 연구 지원이 필요하다.

Human pharynx is unique, acting as a complex interchange between the oral cavity and esophagus, and between the nasal cavity and lungs. It is actively involved in the transport of food and liquid, producing the forces that guide that bolus into the upper esophagus and away from the adjacent larynx and lungs. This study intended to develop a biomechanical model of the human pharynx, utilizing Finite Element Method(FEM). Within each model changes in cross sectional intralumenal area were calculated and compared with the area from the computer-generated FE model. Area matching allowed estimation of intraluminal pressure gradients during swallow. The estimated pharyngeal pressure gradient varies from one region to another. The estimated pharyngeal pressure gradients showed different patterns for upper four levels and lower four levels. The contraction velocity for upper four levels is much higher than lower four levels. The higher contraction velocities and pressure gradients in the upper levels are consistent with the bolus velocities required for efficient swallow.
대주주와 소액주주간의 차등배당을 실시하는 동기에 관한 연구

우리나라의 기업들은 외국과는 달리 대주주와 소액주주간의 차등배당을 실시하는 독특한 배당정책을 가지고 있으며, 대주주들이 소액주주들보다 실제적으로 적은 배당금을 지급받는 형태로 운영되고 있다. 대주주들이 차등배당결정에 대한 거부권을 행사할 충분한 능력이 있음을 가정할 때 자신의 부를 감소시키는 배당정책을 스스로 허용하는 이유에 대한 의문이 제기된다. 본 연구는 이에 대한 최초의 연구로 차등배당 지급동기에 대하여 두가지 가능성을 제시하고자 한다. 첫째로, 한계세율가설을 들 수 있다. 이는 국내 과세제도가 대주주들에게 적은 배당을 지급하게끔 하는 동인으로 작용한다는 것이다. 우리나라의 과세정책하에서 소액주주들은 그들의 배당소득에 따른 분리과세를 적용받는 반면에 대주주들은 종합과세가 적용되기 때문에 대주주의 배당소득이 더 높은 종합과세율에 적용을 받는 한계소득이라면 대주주들은 소액주주보다 낮은 배당(또는 무배당)을 선호할 수 있을 것이다. 둘째로, 배당재원가설을 들 수 있다. 이는 기업의 수익이 모든 주주들에게 기존의 배당금과 비슷한 배당금을 지불할 정도로 충분치 않을 경우 차등배당을 실시할 수 있다는 것이다. 기업의 이익이 감소하였을 때 대주주에 대한 배당금을 줄임으로써 주식시장의 한계 투자그룹을 형성하고 있는 소액주주들에게는 이전과 비슷한 크기의 안정적인 배당금을 지급 하고자 한다는 것이다. 상기 두가지 가설에 대한 검증을 Logit모형을 이용하여 실증 분석하였으며, 그 결과 배당가능이익의 크기가 작을수록, 그리고 대주주의 한계소득세율이 높을수록 차등배당의 경향이 높은 것으로 나타나 세율과 기업의 수익성이 차등배당의 주요한 동인으로 작용하고 있는 것을 발견하였다.
