Angiofibroma which is rare benign tumor found in the nasal cavity is often called juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma because it occurs mainly in the posterior lateral wall of the nasopharynx of adolescent males. It is known that outpatient biopsy is contraindicated due to its hypervascularity which has the potential for massive bleeding. It is difficult to recognize in advance when it is observed as a form originating outside the nasopharynx. We report a case of successfully treated angiofibroma without preoperative embolization originating from the middle turbinate in a 63-year-old woman with nasal obstruction, along with a literature review.

We report on a case of neurofibroma arising from the nasal vestibule. A 73-year-old male had complained of progressive swelling of nasal vestibule over 10 years. Sinus endoscopy and computed tomography presented the mass in the nasal vestibule. We resected the mass and the pathologic diagnosis was the neurofibroma. Neuro- fibroma arising in the area of the nose is extremely rare. We discuss the clinical and pathological characters of neurofibroma arising in the nasal cavity.

Background and Objectives: Oral steroid medication is known to be effective in the treatment of olfactory dysfunc- tion, but long-term steroid use can lead to serious complications such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and gastric ulcers. In this study, the authors aimed to investigate the effects of oral steroid medication with nasal spray and budesonide nasal irrigation alone or nasal spray alone on olfactory disorders. Materials and Methods: A total of 222 patients of anosmia or hyposmia had been treated in Department of Otorhinolaryngology of Haeundae Paik Hospi- tal from March 2010 to December 2022 and were reviewed retrospectively. First, they underwent a 2-week course of oral steroid medication with nasal spray, followed by a pre- and post-treatment with the Korean version of the Sniffin' Sticks (KVSS)-II olfactory assessment. 41 patients finished the first treatment and were divided into two groups. Group 1 (25 patients) used nasal spray alone once a day, while Group 2 (19 patients) underwent budesonide nasal irrigation twice a day. Results: The KVSS-II scores for 41 patients who received the first treatment showed statistically significant improvement (12.6±6.4 to 17.1±5.4, p=0.000). The Group 1 experienced a statistically non-significant decrease in the KVSS-II scores (17.8±5.6 to 15.4±6.5, p=0.140). The KVSS-II scores in Group 2 showed improvement but there was no statistical significance (14.4±4.5 to 16.3±5.4, p=0.326). Conclusion: Using nasal spray alongside oral steroid medication demonstrated statistically significant effects on olfactory disorders. However, using nasal spray alone or budesonide nasal irrigation alone did not show statistically significant results.
기계적합금화법에 의해 제조된 W-20wt.%Cu복합재의 치밀화 거동

고출력 IC회로의 방열재료 및 전기접점재료로 이용되고 있는 W-Cu복합재료를 기계적합금화법으로 제조하였다. 기계적합금화한 분말을 300MPa로 폭 16mm, 높이 4mm의 원반형으로 제조하였다. 소결은 120$0^{\circ}C$에서 140$0^{\circ}C$까지 수소분위기에서 행하였다. 이렇게 제조된 시편의 절단된 면을 연마하여 SEM으로 관찰하였다. 균질한 W-Cu복합재료를 10시간 기계적합금화를 행한 후에 얻을 수 있었고, 133$0^{\circ}C$에서 1시간 소결한 시편의 경우 거의 99%에 가까운 치밀한 조직을 얻을 수 있었다. 또한 기계적합금화시간이 증가함에 따라서 Fe의 혼입은 직선적으로 증가하였으며, 이로 인한 금속간화합물상의 형성은 W입자 성장을 방해하고 경도를 증가시켰다. W-Cu composites utilize the high electrical conductivity of copper and arc erosion resistance of tungsten to provide properties better suited to electrical contact applications than either tungsten or copper alone. W-Cu composite materials were milled in an attritor with an impeller speed of 300rpm for various milling times. The milled powders were compacted at 300MPa into cylinders, 16m in diameter, and approximately 4m high. Sintering was performed in dry H$_2$at temperature ranging from 1200$^{\circ}C$ to 1400$^{\circ}C$. Samples were sectioned and were polished for scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of microstructures. Homogeneous W-Cu composites were formed after 10 hours mechanical alloying and could be attained 99% density at 1330$^{\circ}C$. As mechanical alloying time increased, Fe-concentration was increased linearly. Intermetallic compound formation interupted the growth of W particles Increased hardness.
