As embankment constructions on the soft ground proceed, many geotechnical problems concerning the ground stability and settlements begin to occur. Generally, soil has nonlinear stress-strain relation and its behavior depends on initial stress condition and stress history. There are many uncertain factors in soil. So, it is very difficult to predict the constitutive relation precisely. Results of the field data obtained by geotechnical investigations and field instrumentations were performed to investigate the deformational characteristics of the soft grounds. Theoritical calculations and numerical anaylsis were also performed. Many constitutive models on soil are proposed by several scientists. This study uses Modified Cam-Clay model among these models to analysis of the settlement and displacement of the soft ground under the embankment. Numerical analysis is conducted using CRISP which made by Cambridge University. Analysis of the settlement and displacement of the soft ground under the embankment with the finite element tenchnique using CRISP program made good predictions of the settlement and lateral displacement.

NATM as method of tunneling has been applied to construction of domestic subway, roads, rail way, water way etc. Accordingly we have NATM's many drafts and constructional results, but many problems and accidents have occurred under construction of tunnel using NATM for shortage of technical data, poorness of constructional improvment, systemic inconsistency etc. Especially, everyone was shocked at Gupo's train wrecking accident lately. The purpose of this thesis is presentation of means for settling technical problems, by looking into Gupo's train wrecking accident and home records that applying NATM in tunneling failed, to minimize future safety accidents we find that the general problems of home fifteen sites having occured accidents is badly geological survey, nonconfirmation of base rock's state, formal measuring management, shortage of specialists, systemical discrepancy and that disregarding NATM's rules makes general problems. The results of this study are summarised as follows : 1. We advise repletion of design standards to practice crosshole test for confirming connected rock base on vertical section of tunnel. 2. We advise to practice pre-boring and pre-grouting for a weak layer difficult in applying NATM. 3. We advise systemic improvements that field servicer can construct tunnel of his own free will considering base rock's state at tunnel. 4. We advise that specialist, who can make a conduct and supervise above mentioned items as well as measuring managements, should be posted at field.

This paper examines various design formula and bearing capacity in order to clarify the problems and difficulties in the way securing a proper depth foundation for purpose of practical affairs.

The Grouting methods have been used for cut off ground water flow and for ground improvement. The methods are classified by injection pressure and grouting agents. High-pressure jet grouting method has been executed for the purpose of reinforcement of foundation. Drilling equipments when used for NX sampling of replaced mass by R.J.P(Rodin Jet Pile) and pile test were carried out. The strength of improved ground by jet grouting method R.J.P(Rodin Jet Pile) is increasing grain-size of soil in-site.
