Since traction motors for powertrain of electric vehicles have a wide operating range, they are not equally efficient at every speed and torque condition. Typically, powertrain system of electric vehicles consists of traction motor and single speed gearbox, but this configuration is not enough to get optimal fuel economy and driving performance for real-world driving cycles which have different characteristics simultaneously. A multi-speed configuration of powertrain could reduce the electric energy consumption without degradation of drviving performance, evne if the traction motor power is reduced.

In-cylinder measurements of soot particle size and number density have been made using LII(Laser Induced Incandescence) and LIS(Laser Induced Scattering) measurement techniques in a direct injection diesel optical engine. LII/LIS measurement techniques and calibration techniques with laminar diffusion flame of co-flow burner are used to obtain quantitative information of soot particle. Two optical techniques were used simultaneously involving LII and LIS signal. One Intensified CCD camera was used to obtain 2D light signal images.

Urea-SCR system is a high-effective NOx reduction technology in diesel vehicles. Urea injectors typically are installed on the vehicle’s exhaust pipe. While the operating temperature of solenoid-type injector is 50℃, the exhaust gas temperature is higher than the temperature of the injector, and it will cause the overheating problem in the injector. Thus, in order to solve the problem, the cooling jacket (cooling system) is required to maintain the operating temperature of solenoid-type injector. In the paper, it was studied about the cooling performance of injector used in the heavy-duty commercial vehicles. First, the cooling performance by air was evaluated through the engine testing, and ESC and ETC mode are used for engine testing. Second, the cooling performance by water was evaluated through the CFD analysis. Therefore, through this study, we should select a more effective cooling system of the solenoid-type injector

The drop size distribution characteristics of a Common Rail injection system used in HSDI(High Speed Diesel Engine) were investigated with Fraunhofer diffraction type measuring device. The experiments were performed in the high pressure spray test rig at room temperature. The reliability of measured data were analyzed, since the optical concentrations of the conditions were too high. The concentrations of droplets smaller than 4탏 were relatively high, so it showed double peaks in the drop size distribution characteristics.
