생물 농약은 효능의 지속성 및 인체와 생태계에 안전성이 우수하여 오늘날 화학농약을 대체할 수 있는 친환경 자원으로 주목받고 있다. 현재 약 130개소의 시군 농업기술센터에서 농업 미생물 배양 센터가 지자체의 지원으로 운영 되고 있다. 하지만 미생물 배양 센터에 대한 운영현황 실태에 대한 조사 및 보고가 전무하다. 따라서 각 시군의 농업미생물배양 센터에서 운영현황 조사를 실시하였으며, 총 101개소의 센터에서 조사가 이루어 졌다. 그에 따른 조사 결과 미생물 배양 담당자의 전공이 대부분 미생물학과와는 무관한 것으로 조사되었으며, 농업 미생물 관련 학과 출신의 담당자는 극소수로 조사되었다. 이처럼 농업 미생물에 대한 이해도가 부족하여 업무담당과정에서 많은 문제점들이 노출되었다. 보관균주제작은 품질관리의 기초적 바탕 자료로 활용 될 수 있는 기본적인 실험조차 이루어 지지 않고 있었으며 뿐만 아니라, 대부분의 센터에서는 보관균주조차도 제대로 확보하고 있지 않았다. 미생물 배양 배지 가격은 대부분의 미생물 배양 센터에서 고가로 인식하고 있었으며, 다수의 배양 센터가 미생물 배양 시 pH 적합성, 배양 효율, 배지 품질을 판단하지 않는 등 체계가 갖추어 있지 않았다. 따라서 배양 담당자를 위한 교육이 실행되어야 하며 체계적인 관리 시스템 도입이 필요하다고 사료된다. The use of biopesticides is regarded as an eco-friendly disease control measure in modern agriculture and is seen as a feasible replacement for chemical pesticides. Currently, South Korea has many regional microorganism culture centers that are operated with the support of the local governments. However, no in-depth investigation on the operational status and management of these centers has been performed. In this study, we surveyed and analyzed the operational status of 101 agricultural microorganism culture centers, nationwide. The results indicated that the academic majors of the managers of these centers tend to be unrelated to microorganisms, with very few managers possessing the appropriate academic background. The consequential lack of understanding of agricultural microorganisms has led to various problems in culture processes. Production of long-term storage constitutes a basic process for generating fundamental and foundational data for quality control; however, most of the centers did not produce stock cultures, citing sufficient supply of starter cultures. Additionally, although the centers considered culture media to be expensive, the majority did not have structured systems, such as for monitoring culture pH, propagation, and quality of culture media. Therefore, it can be concluded that adequate training is necessary for the managers of these culture centers and that a systematic management system must be implemented.
