H.263+ 협상모드들의 적응적 선택에 의한 성능개선

H.263 권고안의 성능을 향상시키고 응용범위를 넓히기 위한 연구가 ITU-T LBC 그룹에서 계속 진행되고 있으며 그 대표적인 것이 H.263+이다. H.263는 기존의 H.263 권고안에 새로운 내용이 추가된 형태의 권고안이다. 본 논문에서는 H.263에 포함된 4개의 협상모드와 H.263+에 새롭게 포함된 5개의 모드를 합한 9개를 H.263+ 협상모드로 규정하고 이들을 영상 클래스별로 실험하여 각 모드의 특성을 분석하였으며 4가지 클래스가 혼합된 영상시퀀스에 대해 장면전환 검출기를 이용해서 9가지 협상모드를 적응적으로 사용하는 방안을 제안하였다. 제안한 방법을 사용한 경우 PSNR 측면에서 기본모드보다 1.6 dB, 협상모드를 고정적으로 사용한 것과 비교해서는 0.4∼1.0 dB 정도의 향상을 가져왔으며 비트효율 면에서도 기본모드보다 프레임당 278 비트, 고정적 협상모드 사용보다 2.6∼180 비트 정도의 감소를 가져왔다. Researches in draft recommendation H.263 have been made in ITU-T LBC group to broaden its range of useful application and to improve its compression performance. The form of added and revised draft text of H.263 is informally known as “H.263+”. In this paper, we analyzed the characteristics of H.263+ negotiable option modes for four image classes. Based on the analysis results, we proposed the adaptive selection scheme of H.263+ option modes by using a scene change detector for a mixed image class. In case of using the proposed scheme, we obtained the 1.6dB improvement in PSNR compared to the basic mode of H.263, and the 0.4~1.0 dB improvement in PSNR compared to the fixed usage scheme of H.263+ negotiable option modes. In respect to used bits per frame, fewer bits are produced than the basic mode H.263 and the foxed usage scheme of H.263+ option modes.

비디오 데이터의 장면전환검출은 연속되는 두 개 샷(shot) 사이의 경계인 컷(cut)을 검출하는 것으로 비디오 검색과 색인에 있어서 매우 중요한 과정이다. 본 논문에서는 압축된 비디오에서 최소 복호화에 의한 빠르고 정확한 장면전환검출 알고리듬을 제안한다. 제안한 방법은 먼저 I-프레임간의 DC 영상을 비교해서 장면전환을 포함한 GOP(group of Picture)를 찾고 GOP 내에서 장면전환이 발생한 정확한 위치는 B-프레임에서 매크로블록의 부호화 형태에 관한 정보를 이용해서 찾는다. 실험결과 제안한 방법이 모든 DC 영상을 사용한 기존의 방법보다 Precision과 Recall 측면에서 더 좋은 성능을 나타내었다. 그리고 제안한 방법은 빠르고 정확하며 작은 저장공간을 필요로 한다는 장점을 가진다. A scene change detection which involves finding a cut between two consecutive shots is an important step for video indexing and retrieval. This paper proposes an algorithm for fast and accurate detection of abrupt scene changes in an MPEG compressed domain with minimal decoding requirements arid computational effort. The proposed method compares two successive DC images of I-frames for finding the GOP (group of picture) which contain a scene change and uses macroblock-coded type information contained in B-frames to detect the exact frame where the scene change occurred. The experiment results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has better detection performance, such as precision and recall rate, than the existing method using all DC images. The algorithm has the advantage of speed, simplicity and accuracy. In addition, it requires less amount of storage.

영상 특징들에 자동 가중치 부여를 이용한 검색 성능 개선

Typical image features such as color, shape, and texture are used in content based image retrieved. Retrieval which uses only one image feature has little performance in case that the content of image is complex or database contains many images. So, many approaches for integrating these features have been studied. However, the problem of these approaches is how to appropriately weight the image features at query time. In this paper, we propose a new retrieval method using automatically weighted image features. We perform computer simulations in test database which consists of various kinds of images. The experimental results show that the proposed method has better performance than previous works, which use fixed weight for each feature mostly, in respect to several performance cvaluations such as precision vs recall, retrieval efficiency, and ranking measure. 내용기반 영상 검색에서는 컬러, 형태, 질감의 세 가지 대표적인 영상 특징들이 주로 사용된다. 한 가지 특징만을 사용하는 검색 방법은 영상의 내용이 복잡하거나 비교대상이 되는 영상의 수가 많아질수록 좋은 성능을 보이지 못한다. 그래서 여러 가지 영상 특징들을 결합한 방법들이 많이 연구되고 있다. 그러나 여러 특징들을 결합해서 사용하는 검색 시스템이라 할지라도 각 특징들에 대한 가중치가 적합하게 부여되지 않으면 검색되는 결과 영상들의 순위가 크게 변하여 검색 성능이 떨어지게 된다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 여러 영상 특징들이 결합해서 사용될 때 각 특징에 대한 가중치를 자동적으로 부여해서 검색 성능을 개선하고자 한다. 제안한 방법을 992개의 테스트 영상들로 구성된 데이터 베이스에서 실험을 하고 다양한 성능평가 방법을 통해 그 타당성을 확인하였으며 제안한 방법을 고정가중치 부여를 이용한 방법과 비교하여 검색 성능이 개선됨을 볼 수 있었다.

New Framework for Automated Extraction of Key Frames from Compressed Video

The effective extraction of key frames from a video stream is an essential task for summarizing and representing the content of a video. Accordingly, this paper proposes a new and fast method for extracting key frames from a compressed video. In the proposed approach, after the entire video sequence has been segmented into elementary content units, called shots, key frame extraction is performed by first assigning the number of key frames to each shot, and then distributing the key frames over the shot using a probabilistic approach to locate the optimal position of the key frames. The main advantage of the proposed method is that no time-consuming computations are needed for distributing the key frames within the shots and the procedure for key frame extraction is completely automatic. Furthermore, the set of key frames is independent of any subjective thresholds or manually set parameters.

Design and Implementation of Key Frame Sharing Application in Android Using Chord Protoco

Due to the popularity of mobile phones, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) content sharing in mobile phones is highly desirable, especially in a mobile data connection. In addition, there has been an increasing demand for content sharing applications for P2P communication in Android-based smartphones as ubiquitous mobile devices. However, due to wireless network limits, unstable characteristic and restricted storage space, mobile users confront challenges in establishing connections and sharing video frames with other users. To solve this issue, we propose an architectural design and implementation of key frame sharing application that uses Chord, a distributed lookup protocol to establish a content sharing platform for mobile devices, combined with the Chord SDK based on Android. Our proposed system enables users easily to share key information on video data in real-time over a wireless network without manual processing of devices which join or leave the group and cost associated with the 3G/4G network.

Key Frame Assignment for Compressed Video Based on DC Image Activity

In this paper, we propose a new and fast method for assigning the number of key frames to each shot. At first we segment the entire video sequence into elementary content unit called shots and then the key frame allocation is performed by calculating the accumulated value of AF(activity function). The proposed algorithm is based on the amount of content variation using DC images extracted from compressed video. By assigning the number of key frames to the shot that has the largest value of content function, one key frame is assigned at a time until you run out of given all key frames. The main advantage of our proposed method is that we do not need to use time-exhaustive computations in allocating the key frames over the shot and can perform it fully automatically.
