The gastric secretory response to a uniform dosage of insulin (1.5 u./㎏.) was studied in thirty-six adult dogs which were treated with gastrostomy, antrectomy, vagotomy and antrectomy with vagotomy. One month postoperatively, samples-for studying free acidity, total acidity and pepsin value-were taken once 30 minutes before, and 8 times every 30 minutes after, insulin stimulation following 12-hours fasting. 1. In antrectorny group, the mean values of insulin-responded free acidity, total acidity and pepsin were 37.0±9.4 Cl. u., 53.3±8.5 Cl. u. and 494.1+121.6 p. u. which were 81.4, 46.4 and 35.7% increase respectively as compared with those values of insulin-stimulated control (Gastrostomy) group. 2. In vagotomy group, the mean values of insulin-induced free acidity, total acidity and pepsin were 32.6±10.8 Cl. u., 46.0±10.2 Cl. u. and 135.5±39.6 p. u. respectively. Free and total acidities were 58.8 and 26.4% increase respectively, but pepsin was decreased by 62.8% as compared with those values of insulin reactive control (Gastrostomy) group. 3. In antrectomy with vagotomy group, the mean values of insulin-administrated free acidity, total acidity and pepsin were 1.4±0.5 Cl. u., 22.0±0.8 Cl. u. and 85.6±16.3 p. u. which were decreased by 93.1, 39.6 and 76.5% respectively as compared with those values of insulin-induced control (Gastrostomy) group.
