        개에서 발생한 요추골절의 영상진단과 치료 1례

        A female, nine-month-old Rottweiler was presented with bilateral hind limbs lameness. Physical examination, survey radiography, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were performed. Oblique fracture of L6 vertebral body and abnormal alignment was observed in survey radiographs, CT, and MRI. No significant lesion was found in the intervertebral disc adjacent to fracture site. The patient was applied by bandage and medical management including corticosteroid administration was performed. The patient was able to walk after 4 weeks and prognosis was good.

        Sialocele with Sialolithiasis in a Beagle Dog

        A three-year-old Beagle dog was presented with the neck mass. Mass was located at ventral part of the mandible. The dog showed excessive drooling. Sialocele with calculi was evaluated based on physical exam, radiographs, ultrasonography, and computed tomography. Salivary gland resection was performed. Histopathological examination confirmed sialoadenitis concurred with sialocele.

        Establishment of Injection Protocol of Contrast Material in Pulmonary Angiography using Test Bolus Method and 16-Detector-Row Computed Tomography in Normal Beagle Dogs

        The aim of this study was to establish an injection protocol of a test bolus and a main bolus of contrast material for computed tomographic pulmonary angiography (CTPA) for visualizing optimal pulmonary arteries in normal beagle dogs. CTPA using a test bolus method from either protocol A or B were performed in each of four normal beagle dogs. In protocol A, CTPA was conducted with a scan duration for around 8 s, setting the contrast enhancement peak of the pulmonary trunk in the middle of the scan duration. The arrival time to the contrast enhancement peak was predicted from a previous dynamic scan using a test bolus (150 mg iodine/kg) injected with the same injection duration using for a main bolus (450 mg iodine/kg). In protocol B, CTPA was started at the predicted appearance time of contrast material in the pulmonary trunk based on a previous dynamic scan using a test bolus injected with the same injection rate as a main bolus. CTPA using protocol A showed the optimal opacification of the pulmonary artery with pulmonary venous contamination. Proper CTPA images in the absence of venous contamination were obtained in protocol B. CTPA with a scan duration for 8 s should be started at the appearance time of contrast enhancement in the pulmonary trunk, which can be identified exactly when a test bolus is injected at the same injection rate used for the main bolus.

        개에서 내측슬개골 탈구 등급에 따른 고관절 이상과의 상관관계에 대한 방사선학적 평가

        This study was performed in 41 dogs with unilateral or bilateral medial patella luxation (MPL) and/or cranial cruciate ligament rupture (CCLR). These dogs were classified into 4 groups according to MPL grading system. Radiographic evaluation was performed for pelvis and stifle joint in the dogs. Norberg, inclination, quadriceps and femoral varus angle were measured and analyzed with MPL grading and the existence of cranial cruciate ligament rupture. The Norberg and inclination angle showed no differences between 4 grading groups and between CCLR and no CCLR groups. However, quadriceps and femoral varus angle were statistically different between grade 1, 2 and grade 3, 4 groups. They also have shown the statistical difference between CCLR and no CCLR group. Further studies for how these parameters affect the prognosis and the results of surgical treatment of MPL should be needed.

        Discal Cyst in a Malamute Dog

        A 7-year-old, male Alaskan malamute was referred for a routine dental management. On the physicalexamination, the right hindlimb ataxia with a mild delay in proprioception was noted. On magnetic resonance images,an extradural ventral cystic structure compressing the spinal cord was found at the level between the first and secondlumbar vertebra. The cyst showed hypointense on a T1-weighted image with rim enhancement and hyperintense ona T2-weighted image. The cystic lesion was removed through right-side hemilaminectomy. In the histopathologicalexamination, evenly distributed fibroblasts and collagenous stroma with several cartilaginous materials were seen. Theneurological signs of the right hindlimb were successfully recovered within a week in follow-up neurologicalexamination and showed normal gait at 6 months after surgery.

        Comparative Evaluation of the Lateral Ventricles with Computed Tomography in Yorkshire Terrier, Maltese, and Shih-Tzu Dogs

        This study was performed to evaluate the size and asymmetry of the lateral ventricles in CT images of three different small breed dogs. CT examinations were performed on thirty Yorkshire terriers, malteses, and shihtzu dogs, respectively. The size and asymmetry of their lateral ventricles were evaluated at three different levels of brain, and dogs were categorized on the basis of the percentage of their ventricular height (Vh) to brain height (Bh). Degree of asymmetry was also categorized based on the rVh (ratio of right and left ventricular heights) as normal (rVh < 1.5), mild (1.5 < rVh < 2.0), or severe (2.0 < rVh). Clinically insignificant ventricular dilation was common in these breed dogs. However, severe asymmetry was not presented in clinically normal dogs. We suggested 11 mm as an upper limit of ventricular size in normal small breed dogs.

        Evaluation of Total Lung Volume and Density using Multi-Detector Computed Tomography in Normal Dogs

        This study was performed to quantitatively assess the normal lung volume and density according to the position by multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) in dogs. Helical CT of the thorax was performed on 4 different positions with dorsal, left lateral, right lateral and ventral recumbency in 6 Pekingese and 6 Maltese dogs. During CT scanning, dogs were kept hyperventilated. Through the 3-dimensional reconstruction of CT images, the lung parameters were measured as the volume and density of the left, right including accessory lobe, and total lung. 3D images represented the different lung shape between Pekingese and Maltese dogs. Their difference of total lung volume and total lung density was not significant on the each position in both breeds. Right lung volume was significantly higher than left. The difference of left and right volume was 66.91 ± 25.1 ml. Linear relationship was shown between body weight and lung volume of ventral recumbency position. The dependent lung had higher density and lower volume than nondependent lung in both breed dogs. The volume of nondependent lung was not changed compared with the volume on ventral or dorsal recumbency. The total lung volume measured with MDCT is correlated with the lung density, and the lung density is useful to predict the normal total lung volume.

        개에서 컴퓨터단층영상의 3차원 재구성을 통한 환축추골 아탈구 진단 3례

        A 2-year-old Maltese and a 5-month-old Yorkshire terrier were presented with ataxia. Tetraparesis was observed in a 9-year –old Yorkshire terrier. The localizations of the lesions suggested brain or cervical spinal cord by the neurological examination, and the following images was achieved: radiography, axial images of computed tomography (CT), reconstruction image of CT such as multi-planar reformation(MPR) and 3-dimensional(3D) reconstruction and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). On radiography, the misalignment between atlas (C1) and axis (C2), absent dens of axis, and increased space between the dorsal arch of C1 and spinous process of C2 were found. The discontinuation between dens and body of C2 was identified through axial CT images, and the fragmentation of dens separated from axis was observed through MPR and 3D image in all case. The hyperintense lesions and the spinal cord compression on T2-weighted MR images were represented in a dog with tetraparesis, the others represented only spinal cord compression. Three dogs were diagnosed as atlantoaxial instability (AAI) by dens fracture of C2. The dog with tetraparesis was euthanized due to guarded prognosis. The others were recovered completely. It is difficult to differentiate dens fracture of C2 from abnormal dens such as agenesis and hypoplasia. We thought that CT is very useful to evaluate the dens of C2 and differentiate the causes of AAI, and the reconstruction images of CT such as MPR and 3D make the translation of the fragmented dens or axis of AAI more precisely evaluate.
