In this study, uptake and translocation of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene(TNT) by plant in a hydroponic culture was quantified with two indigenous plant species, Aeschynomene indica and Abutilon avicennae on various initial concentrations of TNT ranging from 20 to 80 mgTNT/L. Experiments were sterilized to exclude the activity of microorganisms and conducted in duplicate. Weight loss of two plant species in added TNT culture media was higher than in control. At over 2OmgTNTIL, there appeared to be phytotoxicity from TNT as indicated by severe yellow-chlorosis and increase of falling leaves. TNT removal rate normalized(K) to the plant fresh weight of Abutilon avicennae and Aeschynomene indica was that the higher TNT concentrations resulted in lower TNT removal rate normalized(K) to the plant fresh weight. Approximately 96% of the TNT in viable microflora-hydroponic culture was removed after 96h of the experiments.

Acute inhalational exposure to chlorine gas can cause reactive airway dysfunction syndrome (RADS) but only a few data are available on its long term sequelae. We experienced three cases of RADS induced by chlorine gas. Fifteen adults were accidentally exposed to chlorine gas at a local swimming pool because of an error in exchanging disinfectant. The exposure time was within 5 minutes. Most patients experienced throat irritation and sense of breathlessness. Three of them showed wheezing and obstructive patterns in pulmonary function tests and were diagnosed as RADS. Two of them received inpatient care for respiratory difficulty. Inhaled corticosteroid and bronchodilator were discontinued within a few months with resolution of obstructive lung impairment. At the 1-year follow-up, only one patient, demonstrated a positive response to the methacholine provocation test and needed anti-asthmatic medication for frequent nocturnal wheezing. After one year medication with inhaled corticosteroid and bronchodilator, he became free of symptoms and showed negative response to the methacholine provocation test. Another patients showed a borderline airway hyperresponsiveness (PC20=25 mg/mL) and the third patient had a negative test result without any symptoms. These two patients have not experienced any respiratory symptoms since they recovered from acute symptoms of RADS. (Korean J Asthma Allergy Clin Immunol 2009;29:283-288)

자가면역췌장염과 췌장암의 감별진단은 유사한 임상증상들과 영상검사소견을 보일 수 있기 때문에 종종 어렵다. 혈청 IgG4는 자가면역췌장염과 췌장암의 감별에 중요한 인자이다. 췌장암 환자에서도 약 10%에서는 혈청 IgG4가 상승할 수 있으나, 대부분 정상 상한의 2배 이내이다. 그래서 저자들은 자가면역췌장염과 감별이 어려웠던 혈청 IgG4가 정상 상한의 6배 이상으로 상승된 췌장암 1예를 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Differential diagnosis between autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) and pancreatic cancer is often difficult due to similar clinical manifestations and radiological findings. Serum immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4) is a marker to differentiate AIP from pancreatic cancer. Although serum IgG4 can be elevated in 10% of patients with pancreatic cancer, most of serum IgG4 elevation in pancreatic cancer is limited within two times of upper normal limit. Herein, we report a case of pancreatic cancer with markedly elevated serum IgG4 over six times of upper normal limit that needed steroid trial to differentiate from AIP.
