Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease characterized by a chronic inflammatory process, primarily involving the synovial membrane of peripheral j oints, where T cell activation is found. To address the superantigen stimulation in rheumatoid arthritis, T cell clonality and the expression of activation markers were analyzed. Methods: To detect TCRB V usage, inverse PCR and sequencing were done. Monoclonal antibodies were used for flow cytometric analysis of TCRBV8 or TCRBV5. As results, a restricted usage of TCRBV3 gene was detected in synovial lymphocytes from one rheumatoid arthritis patient. However, preferential usage for TCRB V8, which may be one indicator for stimulation by staphylococcal superantigen, was not obvious although general activation of T cells was found as high DR+ percentage in synovial T cells. These data show specific antigen rather than superantigen might involve the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis.

This study aims to interpret ‘Mobian(墨辯)’ Texts from the pragmatic point of view. Mobian Texts are emphasize the usage of language. Mobian also explains the problems of the argumentative language employment. To Mohist, language is a tool for the argumentative language use. Main pragmatic points of Mobian involve the name(名), object(實), name-object connection(合), act(爲) and the argumentation. The components of the name-object connection are consumed for the argumentation. Mohist also discussed the principles and methods of the performance of the argumentation dividing those as 'the principle of the content production of the argumentation, the method of the approach of the linguistic reasoning, and the subject of the strategies for the achievement of the purpose of the argumentation.'. The principle of the content production of the argumentation includes concepts of ground(故), standard(法), categorization(類). The method of the approach of the linguistic reasoning includes supposition(或), subjunctive(假), model(效), analogy(辟), comparison(侔), quotation(援), inference(推). The strategies for the achievement of the purpose of the argumentation is based on utilities.

In the present study, we evaluated the mancozeb-induced toxicity on the liver, thyroid, and testis via histological and functional hormone assay in male rats. Mancozeb was orally administered at 800 mg/kg body weight/day for 4 weeks. Upon the chronic administration of mancozeb, the body weight slightly decreased, but, liver, thyroid, and testis weights per 100 g body weight were not changed. Histological studies of the testis of male rats treated with mancozeb revealed spermatogenesis inhibition, which was reflected by significant decreases in the numbers of spermatogonia, primary spermatocyte, spermatid, and sperm. Chronic exposure to mancozeb induced gonadal hormone disturbance. Concentrations of estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone in the serum were significantly decreased in mancozeb-treated rats. The volume and histopathology of the thyroid were also distinctly altered. Serum levels of T3 and T4 were markedly decreased in the mancozeb diet group. However, liver toxicity was not observed upon chronic mancozeb exposure.

The brain is particularly vulnerable to oxygen free radicals, and these radicals have been implicated in the pathology of several neurological disorders. In this study, the modulation of TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) expression by oxidative stress was shown in LN215 cells, an astroglioma cell line. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) treatment increased TRAIL expression in LN215 cells and H2O2-induced TRAIL augmented apoptosis in Peer cells, a cell line sensitive to TRAIL- mediated cell death. Our findings suggest that the upregulation of TRAIL in astroglial cells may abrogate immune cell effector functions.
