        Electrodeposition of Polypyrrole Nanowires within Vertically Oriented Mesoporous Silica Template

        Polypyrrole (Ppy) nanowire has been electrochemically synthesized via vertically oriented mesoporous silica template. The mesoporous template is also electrochemically deposited on indium tin oxide coated (ITO) glass from tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactant. The highly ordered silica template is demonstrated to be 100~120nm thick with the pores of 4~5 nm diameter by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Ppy is formed to fill pores of the silica template from pyrrole solution by electrochemical oxidation. The Ppy in Ppy/silica/ITO composite was found to exhibit reversible electrochemical activity, as characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV).

      • Fluorescent graphene oxide-peptide-quencher hybrids for detection of cell-secreted protease

        Graphene Oxide (GO) is an emerging luminescent nanomaterial with photo-stability and unique photoluminescence (PL) property. In addition, GO based sensing platform have attracted great attentions due to the featured properties of GO. Herein, we present a GO PL-based optical biosensor consisting of a luminescent GO donor covalently linked with a peptide-quencher complex for the simple, rapid and sensitive detection of proteases. Firstly, we examined the quenching efficiency of candidate quenchers for GO fluorescence, and investigated their quenching mechanism. The designed GO-peptide-quencher system was able to detect the specific proteases, chymotrypsin and matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), by turn-on response of quenched GO fluorescence after proteolytic cleavage leading to release of quencher. The GO-peptide-quencher hybrid successfully monitored MMP-2 secreted from living cells with high sensitivity.

        진행성 치매와 반복되는 뇌졸중을 보인 뇌 아밀로이드 혈관병증 1예

        Cerebral amyloid angiopathy can cause intracerebral hemorrhage, progressive dementia, seizure and transient ischemic attacks. Dementia is a relatively common manifestation and associated with the presence of recurrent strokes and leukoencephalopathy. A 66-year-old right-handed man with hypertension and recurrent strokes presented with rapidly progressive dementia and sudden onset of dysarthria and dizziness. He showed memory impairment, personality and behavioral changes, and executive dysfunction for one and an half years. These symptoms developed insidiously and quite rapidly without fluctuation. Brain CT showed a small hemorrhage in the right cerebellum. Brain MRI, especially gradient-echo images revealed multiple cortical and cortico-subcortical microbleeds. Four weeks later, right hemiparesis suddenly developed and a repeated MRI showed a new left corona radiata infarction. We learn from this case that gradient-echo MR images should be performed in patients with rapidly progressive dementia and recurrent strokes.

        도파민 D2 수용체 다형성과 보상의존성 성격특성과의 관련성

        Background:The dopaminergic genes have been implicated with some personality traits. Many recent studies indicated that there is a correlation between D2 dopamine receptor gene(DRD2) polymorphisms and the personality traits. The purpose of this study is to investigate a possible association between DRD2 gene (TaqI A, TaqI B) polymorphism and personality traits. Methods:The subjects were consisted of 173 blood-unrelated young female Koreans with a mean age(${\pm}SD$) of 13.88(${\pm}0.29$) years. These volunteers were recruited from one of the junior high schools in Seoul and were tested by the Korean version of the Temperament and Character Inventory(TCI). Genotyping of the DRD2 polymorphisms by PCR methods were carried out. Two DRD2 gene polymorphisms were classified and individually assessed as follows:TaqI A1+ vs A1-, TaqI B1+ vs B-. The associations between the TCI scores and TaqI A, TaqI B polymorphisms were assessed by Student's t-test. Results:In the 173 subjects, the allele frequencies of the DRD2 TaqI A1, TaqI B1 alleles ranged from 0.42 to 0.43, and these results are quite different from the ranges of 0.15-0.20 in the case of a Caucasian population. The genotype frequencies of DRD2(TaqI A1, TaqI B1) variants showed no significant deviation from the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. RD4(dependence vs. independence) of Cloninger's TCI, a sub-dimension of Reward Dependence, was significantly higher in the subjects having DRD2 less frequent alleles than those without these alleles. Conclusion:This study suggests that the female subjects carrying the less frequent DRD2 alleles exhibited higher reward-dependent personality trait compared to those without these alleles.

        The squeal noise is the result of self -excited vibrarion that can occur on most type of brakes. In this paper, there is a suggestion for the mechanism behind the squeal noise generation. Therefore, there is a need for measurements to verify the mode shape of drum brake system. The mode shape is measured on rear drum brake system of small sedan type vehicle, while the drum brake system is mounted on the vehicle and forced by parking brake cable to simulate braking conditions.

        알쯔하이머병 환자의 인지기능 변화 및 예후인자: 1년 추적

        Background: The rate of cognitive change and prognostic factor in Alzheimer's disease are important for clinical management, but little is known in Korea. We report a one year follow-up study of comprehensive evaluation including cognitive functions, behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) and activity of daily living (ADL). Methods: 43 patients with Alzheimer's disease were enrolled. All subjects received the Korean version of Mini-Mental State Examination (K-MMSE), the Severe Dementia Scale (SDS), the extended version of Korean Clinical Dementia Rating Scale (CDR) and Sum of Box (CDR-SB), the Barthel index of Activity of Daily Living (B-ADL), the Korean Instrumental Activity of Daily Living (K-IADL) and the Korean version of the Neuropsychiatric Inventory (K-NPI). We retested each scale after 1 year and evaluated the changes. Results: The mean change rates of K-MMSE, SDS, CDR, CDR-SB and B-ADL scores were 2.0±3.2 (-7~8) mean±SD (range), 3.5±4.9 (-7~14), -0.4±0.7 (-2~1), -0.8±4.4 (-10~9) and 1.5±3.7 (-7~9). The change of K-MMSE and B-ADLscore according to CDR were significantly different. The annual rates of changes of scores on K-MMSE, B-ADL and CDR were largest in CDR 1 group (K-MMSE: 4.0±2.7, B-ADL: 3.4±2.8, CDR: -1±0.7). The change rate of SDS was largest in CDR 4 (7.2±4.3). There were not any significant factors that affected the change of K-MMSE, SDS, B-ADL or CDR. Conclusions: These results suggest that K-MMSE is sensitive to the early stage and SDS is sensitive to the later stage. The deterioration rate of cognitive function in Alzheimer's disease is large at middle stage.
