        Thermogravimetric characteristics of α-cellulose and decomposition kinetics in a micro-tubing reactor

        The pyrolysis characteristics and kinetics of α-cellulose were investigated using thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and micro tubing reactor, respectively. Most of the α-cellulose decomposed between 250 and 400 oC at heating rate of 5-20 oC/min. The apparent activation energy was observed in the range of 263.02 kJ mol−1 to 306.21 kJ mol−1 at the conversion of 10-80%. The kinetic parameters were determined by nonlinear least-squares regression of the experimental data, assuming first-order kinetics. It was found from the kinetic rate constants that the predominant reaction pathway was A(α-cellulose) to B(bio-oil) rather than A(α-cellulose) to C(gas; C1-C4) and/or to B(bio-oil) to C(gas; C1-C4) at temperatures of 340-360 oC.

        청소년의 음란물 접촉과 잘못된 강간통념 수용간의 매개변인과 조정변인의 역할

        The present study was conducted to reveal that the effects of several mediators and moderators on rape myth when adolescents had got to contact to pornography. The 400 second grade male and female students of middle and high schools located at Jinhae Kyungnam took part in the present study. They asked to complete several questionnaires including the frequency of exposure to pornography, rape myth, knowledge of sex, and so on. The major results are followed: First, male students have more contacted to pornography than have done female, and high school students have more contacted to pornography than have done middle school students. Also male students have more rape myth than female do, but male students have more knowledge of sex than female among high school students. Male students have more generous attitude to pornography and feel more positively after contacting them than female in high school. Second, it was found that student's feeling to pornography partly work as a mediator between the frequency of exposure to pornography and rape myth. That is, the more students have positive feeling after contact pornography, the more have rape myth feeling according to their frequency of contacting pornography. Third, gender of student plays role of a moderator between the frequency of exposure to pornography and the rape myth. The relationship between them was strong in male students, but it was very weak in female students. The present study showed that the some of students's responses to the pornography takes a role of mediator between contacting pornography and their rape myth. Finally, several implications, suggestions, and limitations of the present study were discussed. 본 연구에서는 청소년들의 음란물 접촉은 날로 증가하지만, 이를 효과적으로 차단하기 힘든 현 상황에서 음란물 접촉과 강간통념 수용도 사이의 매개변인과 중개변인을 알아봄으로써 이를 이용하여 음란물 접촉이 있더라도 강간통념을 낮추려고 하는 방안을 모색하기 위해 실시하였다. 이를 위해 경남 소재의 남녀 중고생들 400명을 대상으로 연구하였다. 이들에게 실시한 설문지는 청소년들의 음란물 접촉정도와 강간통념 수용도 이외에도 매개(혹은 중개)변인이 될 수 있는 성지식, 음란물에 대한 태도, 음란물 접촉후의 느낌 등을 묻는 물음이 있었다. 주요 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 먼저 청소년들의 음란물 접촉경험은 여학생보다는 남학생이 중학생보다는 고등학생이 음란물 접촉 경험이 많았다. 강간통념 수용도는 남학생이 여학생보다 높았다. 둘째, Baron과 Kenny(1986)이 제안한 방식에 따라 음란물 접촉과 강간통념 수용도간에 영향을 미치는 매개변인의 효과를 알아 본 결과, 음란물에 대한 태도가 강간통념을 부분적으로 매개하고 있었다. 즉 태도가 부정적인 경우는 음란물이 강간통념에 큰 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 음란물 접촉과 강간통념간에 영향을 미치는 조정변인의 효과를 알아 본 결과, 청소년의 성과 나이가 조정변인의 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 남학생은 음란물 접촉을 많이 할수록 강간통념 수용도가 높았고 중학생보다는 고등학생의 경우에서 그들의 음란물 접촉정도가 클수록 강간통념이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 이상의 결과들을 이론적 및 실용적 맥락에서 논의하였다.

        The new and young North Korean leader, Kim Jeong-eun remains power uneasy after Kim Jeong-il`s death in December 17, 2011. And then, North Korea seems to continue its nuclear programs and to reduce the size of the nuclear weapon for the missile delivery under the leadership of the young Kim. It may be the right time to review the military relations between the Two-Korea. The Republic of Korea(ROK) and the United States(U.S.) agreed on the transfer of the Wartime Operational Control over the ROK forces of the ROK-US Combined Forces Command (CFQ, which would be dismantled by the transfer. They intially set the date by April 14, 2012, but postponed it to December 1, 2015 after North Korean`s attack on the ROK Navy warship, Cheonan. The transition of wartime operational control signifies that it is a direct confrontation between the North Korea which has a nuclear weapon and the ROK has not. In process of the transfer of the Wartime Operational Control of the CFC, the ROK could reinforce its capabilities and independency over military operations aganist North Korea`s military provocations and threats. However, the ROK should consider various risks such that the transfer of Wartime Operational Control may give a wrong message to North Korea and jeopardize current deterrence system. Also, the ROK may not fully prepared to face the North Korea`s military threats with only limited U. S. support. Just so, to decrease North Korea`s military threrats, it is desirable for the ROK to make a military balance against North Korea`s military strength before the execution of the ROK-U.S. agreement. It will be possible through the making of nuclear balance between the two Koreas, the reinforcement of The ROK-U.S. military alliance and the psychological warfare against North Korean army.

        Salt Stress 에 의한 Dunaliella salina 의 삼투 조절 기작에서 (渗透 助節 機作) Calcium 이온의 역할

        Involvement of calcium in signal transduction of salt stress was investigated in 1.7 M NaCl adapted Dunaliella salina, extremely halotolerant, unicellular green alga. When hyperosmotic (3.4 M NaCl) or hypoosmotic (0.8 M NaCl) stress was treated, extracellular calcium was influxed in or intracellular calcium effluxed from D. salina, respectively, and these fluxes were proportional to the degree of stress. This might indicate indirectly that the change of calcium level occurred within the cells. In addition, the change of calcium flux was ahead of glycerol synthesis which has been known as the physiological response to salt stress. Osmoregulation was affected by extracellular calcium concentration, and increase of glycerol content as an osmoticum was inhibited about 50% by treatment of TFP and W-7 known as calmodulin specific inhibitors. Furthermore, in the case of the hyperosmotic stressed cells, the amount of 21 kD and 39 kD protein appeared to be calcium binding protein were increased. Among these, the 39 kD protein was detected only in the hyperosmotic stressed cells. The results obtained in the present work suggest that the possibility of calcium as a second messenger in the transduction of salt stress signal exists in the osmoregulation system of D. salina.

        Overexpression of Brassica rapa NGATHA1 Gene Confers De-Etiolation Phenotype and Cytokinin Resistance on Arabidopsis thaliana

        Brassica rapa NGATHA1 (BrNGA1) encodes a B3-type transcription factor. By analyzing Arabidopsis overexpressors of BrNGA1 (BrNGA1ox), we have previously demonstrated that BrNGA1 may be involved in negative regulation of cell proliferation during lateral organ and root growth. In the present study, we have found that BrNGA1ox seedlings grown in the dark display de-etiolation phenotypes,such as short hypocotyls, open and elongated cotyledons, and developing true leaves. BrNGA1ox seedlings as well as adult plants and calli are also resistant specifically to exogenous cytokinins. These data raise the possibility that the de-etiolation phenotypes of BrNGA1ox seedlings may result from an alteration in cytokinin response. We set out to test whether the de-etiolation phenotype is due to cytokinin overproduction or constitutively activated cytokinin response. First, BrNGA1ox was crossed to the CKX2ox plant, an overexpression line of CYTOKIN OXIDASE 2, which is responsible for degradation of active cytokinins. We found,however, no difference in the de-etiolation and shoot growth phenotypes between BrNGA1ox and BrNGA1ox CKX2ox plants. Next, we measured the transcripts level of ARR5 and ARR7, frequently employed as molecular markers for cytokinin signaling and yet found no difference in their transcripts levels of the wild-type and BrNGA1ox seedlings and shoots. These data indicate that biological role of BrNGA1 involved in de-etiolation seems to be associated with neither cytokinin overproduction nor its altered signaling. Possible molecular mechanisms by which BrNGA1 may interfere with cytokinin responses and etiolation are discussed.

        Retrogradation Kinetics of Cross-linked and Acetylated Corn Starches under High Hydrostatic Pressure

        Retrogradation kinetics of conventionally and high hydrostatic pressure (HHP)-assisted chemically modified (cross-linked with sodium trimetaphosphate/sodium tripolyphosphate (STMP/STPP) and acetylated with acetic anhydride) corn starches were investigated. During storage at 4oC, the glass transition temperature (Tg') and the ice melting enthalpy were measured using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and relative crystallinity was measured using an X-ray diffractometer (XRD). In both conventionally and HHP-assisted modified corn starches, the Tg' value and relative crystallinity increased during first 7-10 days of storage, then stabilized, whereas the ice melting enthalpy decreased until 10 days of storage, then remained constant. HHP-assisted modified starch showed different retrogradation kinetics from conventionally modified starch. However, the retrogradation rates of both samples were lower than for native corn starch. Although the Tg' value, the ice melting enthalpy, and relative crystallinity represent different physicochemical properties, all can be used as indicators for evaluation of starch retrogradation.

        Optimization of Ultra High Pressure Extraction (UHPE) Condition for Puffed Ginseng Using Response Surface Methodology

        Response surface methodology (RSM) was usedto determine the optimum ultra high pressure extraction(UHPE) conditions for two independent variables, pressureand time. Extraction yield and crude saponin contentincreased with both pressure and time. Treatment time, inparticular, greatly affected extraction yield and crudesaponin content. The optimum conditions for maximizingeither extraction yield or crude saponin content weredetermined to be 446.46 MPa for 14.84 min and 450 MPafor 15 min, respectively. The extraction yield and crudesaponin content obtained using conditions optimized foreach individual parameter were 22.67±1.23% and 16.59±0.76 mg/g, respectively. On the other hand, extractionperformed according to conditions optimized for bothextraction yield and crude saponin content produced 23.47±1.04% and 16.59±0.76 mg/g, respectively. Moreover,UHPE was one of the most effective extraction methodscompared to other extraction methods (heat reflux,ultrasound-assisted and microwave-assisted extractions).

        인간 자궁경부암조직에서 세포주기 조절단백 G1 Cyclins의 발현이 임상적 예후인자에 미치는 영향

        Alterations in the expression of genes that control the cell cycle may be of critical importance in tumorigenesis and malignant transformation. The major regulatory events leading to cell proliferation occur in G1 phase of cell cycle, and the deregulated expression of G1 cyclins is related to oncogenesis. Cyclins D1 and E play important roles in the progression of cell through G1 phase of the cell cycle. Amplification and/or overexpression of the cyclin D1 gene and aberrant expression of cyclin E has been described in various forms of human cancer. However, the role of cyclins D1 and E in cervical cancer has been poorly defined. In this study, we examined the expression of cyclins D1 and E by Northern blot technique and the status of human papillomavirus(HPV) type 16 and 18 by polymerase chain reaction in 25 cases of cervical carcinoma to explore the relationship between cyclins D1 and E and cervical cancer. We found cyclin D1 expression showed down-regulated expression in cervical cancer but cyclin E expression was increased in cancer group. Other clinicopathological prognostic factors were not correlated with cyclins D1 and E expression. Further study based on larger numbers of cases with correlation of cyclins D1 and E status and survival data will be needed to elucidate the use of cyclin expressions as prognostic factor.

        기후변화 및 산업의 발전으로 바이오매스의 수요는 폭발적으로 증가하고 있으나 인구의 팽창과 산림면적의 지속적 감소추세로 공급은 감소하고 있는 추세이다. 하지만 기존의 수종과 전통적 육종, 조림방법으로는 시간과 비용이 많이 들고, 생산성을 획기적으로 증가시키는 데 한계가 있다. 따라서 유전체 및 생명공학기술의 접목으로 획기적인 슈퍼 클론의 개발이 필요한 실정이다. 최근, 목본식물 중포플러 게놈 프로젝트가 최초로 완결되어 임목의 생장, 목재형성 및 재해저항성의 관련 인자들에 대한 정보가 축적되고 있어 이를 활용한 신품종 개발연구가 전 세계적으로 활발하게 이루어지고 있는 실정이다. 국내에서는 신품종 개발을 위해 산림생명공학의 기반 기술의 보강이 우선 필요하며, 장기적으로 임목 유전자 발현 연구를 가능하게 할 포플러 유전자 발현 조절 라이브러리 구축이 선행되어야 한다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 포플러의 전사조절인자를 이용하여 임목의 생장, 목재형성 및 재해저항성과 관련한 주요 인자들을 분리하고 기능을 연구하기 위하여 전사조절인자의 발현 라이브러리를 구축하였는데, 이는 향후 재해 저항성 및 목재 생산성이 향상된 신품종을 개발하기 위한 첫걸음이다.
