In this work, we performed ozone treatment of isotropic pitch fibers to optimize the duration and temperature during the stabilization process. The treatment worked effectively for long-term and high-temperature stabilization. The isotropic pitch fibers were ozone-treated at different ozone concentrations of 10, 20, and 30 mg/l. The surface properties of the isotropic pitch fibers were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy, while their structural characteristics were examined using X-ray diffraction. The experimental results indicated that the surface oxygen functional groups (COOH, OH, and CO) and oxygen concentration of the pitch fibers increased after the ozone treatment. During the oxidative stabilization process, the cross-linking reactions of the oxygen functional groups formed the thermosetting pitch, as confirmed by the replacement of hydrogen with oxygen. Additionally, it was observed that the ozone treatment could improve the optimized oxidative stabilization procedure in carbon fiber manufacturing. Therefore, the ozone treatment played an important role in optimizing the oxidative stabilization procedure of the pitch fibers.
탄소나노튜브 무전해 니켈 도금과 양극산화가 탄소나노튜브/에폭시 복합재료의 전자파 차폐효율에 미치는 영향

In this work, the influence of electroless nickel-plated and anodized carbon nanotubes (CNT) on the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI-SE) properties of CNT/epoxy composites was studied. The surface properties of modified CNT were measured by field emission scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The composites were prepared by adding 7 wt% modified CNT to epoxy. The EMI-SE of the composites was evaluated through reflection and absorption loss in the frequency range of 30 MHz-1.5 GHz. The electric conductivity was measured using a 4-point-probe electric resistivity tester. The results show that, the EMI-SE of the composites with 3 min nickel-plated CNT was the highest. The reflection loss of anodized CNT was found to be sharply increased in the frequency range of 1.25-1.35 GHz. In addition, the reflection loss of modified CNT was improved, but the absorption loss was decreased, respectively. This was probably because electroless nickel-plating and anodization led to the improvement in the polarity of the CNT surface which increased the EMI-SE of the composites.

Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome presents with multisystemic patterns of congenital anomalies and macrosomia. This syndrome was independently described by Beckwith in 1963 and by Wiedemann in 1964. There is wide spectrum of clinical manifestations, including prenatal or postnatal overgrowth, neonatal hypoglycemia, macroglossia, visceromegaly, omphalocele, hemihypertrophy and a predisposition for embryonal tumors, most frequently Wilms' tumor. We managed a case of Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome with left adrenal cortical neoplasm of undetermined malignancy. 저자들은 확정되지 않은 악성의 가능성을 가진 부신 피질 방추세포 종양 (adrenal cortical spindle cell neoplasm of indeterminate malignant potential)을 동반한 Beckwith-Wiedemann 증후군을 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.
폴리아크릴로니트릴 기반 3D 탄소나노섬유 스펀지의 제조 및 오일 흡착 특성

In this work, the preparation and its oil adsorption behavior of polyacrylonitrile-based carbon nanofiber sponge were investigated. The prepared carbon sponges showed excellent selective oil adsorption in the mixture of water and oil, and the adsorption capacity of reused carbon nanofiber sponge was also investigated. Further, carbon nanofiber sponge adsorbent with internally structured channel showed fast oil adsorption behavior due to a capillary phenomenon. After use, sponge adsorbent was heat-treated at 800℃ under N<sup>2</sup> and studied the possibility of a sensor for electrochemical detection of 4-aminophenol.

In this work, the influence of milled carbon fiber direction on mechanical properties of milled carbon fibers/carbon blacks/natural rubber compounds was investigated. The compounds were prepared by adding the 6 phr milled carbon fibers (MCFs) and 40 phr carbon blacks (CBs) into the natural rubber. The MCFs were aligned in a parallel and orthogonal direction in the compounds using two-roll-mill machine. Mechanical properties of compounds were studied by tensile characteristics and tearing strength. As a result, the compounds showed higher tensile strength, 100%~300% modulus, and tearing strength than those of using any other compounds due to the aligning MCFs in parallel. Mechanical properties of the compounds reinforced with non-aligned MCFs were inferior to those of others. Consequently, the parallel aligned MCFs in the compounds led to an increase of tensile properties and improvement of tearing strength, resulted from MCFs with the high elastic modulus.
