This study evaluates the operational efficiency of a ceramic membrane filtration system applied to a small-to-medium-scale advanced water treatment facility (Y Water Treatment Plant), with the aim of identifying major fouling mechanisms and proposing practical improvement strategies. Recently, ceramic membranes have gained attention for their high durability and chemical resistance, making them suitable for integration with pre-ozonation and granular activated carbon (GAC) processes. However, challenges remain in managing transmembrane pressure (TMP) increases and maintaining stable long-term performance. Using actual operational data from 2017, this study investigated the seasonal variations in TMP and their correlation with raw water quality, particularly focusing on manganese and dissolved organic carbon (DOC). Monitoring results revealed that TMP spikes frequently occurred during spring and autumn overturn events, coinciding with elevated manganese concentrations and algal blooms. LC-OCD analyses further demonstrated that biopolymer concentrations increased significantly during these periods, contributing to membrane fouling. Chemical cleaning experiments confirmed that sulfuric acid at pH 0.7 exhibited the highest removal efficiency for inorganic foulants, such as manganese, iron, and aluminum. Additionally, operational challenges such as uneven flow distribution among membrane trains were identified as contributing factors to TMP escalation. Flow balancing and cleaning optimization were proposed as effective countermeasures. This study provides comprehensive insights into the fouling behavior and control of ceramic membranes in advanced water treatment systems. The findings serve as valuable guidance for improving membrane operation and maintenance strategies, particularly for facilities facing seasonal water quality fluctuations.

In this paper the authors deal with functional equations which is a good research topic for high school students. In particular, they consider the Cauchy equation, Pexider equation, Jensen equation and logarithmic functional equation satisfied in the complements of rhombi or in the half planes, and find the general solutions and the regular solutions of the equations.
