      • 개별화자 음성의 특징 파라미터 분석

        This paper investigates how individual speakers' speech can be distinguished using acoustic parameters such as amplitude, pitch, and formant frequencies. Word samples from fifteen male speakers in their 20's in three different regions were recorded in two different modes (i.e., casual and clear speech) in quiet settings, and were analyzed with a Praat macro scrip. In order to determine individual speakers' acoustical values, the total duration of voicing segments was measured in five different timepoints. Results showed that a high correlation coefficient between F_1 and F_2 in formant frequency was found among the the speakers although there was little correlation coefficient between amplitude and pitch. Statistical grouping shows that individual speakers' voice werenot reflected in regional dialects for both casual and clear speechl. In addition, the difference of maximum and minimum in amplitude was about 10 dB which indicates a perceptually audible degree. These acoustic data can give some meaningful guidelines for implementing algorithms of speaker indentification and speaker verification.         This paper deals with general review of Mieko S. Han, who made a significant contribution to the studies of Korean phonetics during the 1960's and early 1970's. As both a single and joint author, Dr. Han published important papers in both quantity and quality, which have been cited among Korean phoneticians until today. Before Dr. M. Han's work, professor of USC in the department of East Asian Languages & Cultures, there were only a few phonetics-related publications in Korea, most of which are papers or books based on non-experimental traditional approach. It is known that there was coexistence between traditionalism and structuralism in the field of Korean linguistics. It was, however, fortunate that we had two important phoneticians (M. Han and Chin-W Kim) abroad at that time. Mieko Han's concern was to investigate experimental characteristics of the system of Korean vowels and consonants using a Spectrograph, which was the single most important tool for analysing phonetic data at that time. Dr. Han conducted her experimental studies on Korean phonetics, mostly funded by the Office of Naval Research, in terms of duration, fundamental frequency, Voice Onset Time (VOT), intensity, and so on. This paper aims to re-appreciate Dr. Han's specific contribution to the study of Korean phonetics since she played an important role as a pioneer of early Korean phonetics. Further, it is highly recommended that Dr. Han's works can be extremely useful for a graduate student, who seriously would like to specialize in Korean phonetics in the first step.

      • 한국어-영어 이중언어사용아동의 음운인식능력

        This study investigated whether there are differences between Korean-English bilingual and Korean monolingual children on phonological awareness skills. Participants were 11 Korean-English bilingual children and 12 Korean monolingual children. The children's ages ranged between 6 and 7 years. The results were as follows. First, the bilingual children significantly outperformed monolingual children on overall phonological awareness tasks. The bilinguals performed significantly higher than monolinguals on all three types of phonological awareness tasks (segmentation, deletion, and blending). Second, there was a significant difference between the groups with respect to phonological units of the tasks. The bilinguals performed significantly better than monolinguals on the phonemic unit tasks, but two groups did not differ significantly on syllabic unit tasks. There was an interaction effect between unit size(syllables and phonemes) and group (bilinguals and monolinguals). Third, there were correlations for both bilingual and monolingual children between overall phonological awareness skills and word recognition skills.

        음성재활 방법에 따른 후두적출자의 말속도

        Objective: This study aims to investigate the speaking rate of electrolaynx (ELS), esophageal speech (ES) and tracheosophageal speech (TES). Method: Subjects of 31 alaryngeal speakers are all males and consisted of ELS with 5, ES with 22, and TES with 4. Speech data were collected and analyzed using CSL and Real Time Pitch. Statistical analysis based on the results was used SPSS 20.0 for windows. Results: The results were as follows. Mean overall speaking rate is ELS 3.49SPS (syllable per second); ES 1.82SPS; and TES 2.30SPS, respectively. Secound, mean articulatory rate is ELS 4.58SPS; ES 3.14SPS; and TES 4.09SPS, respectively. Speaking rate as well as articulatory rate of ES were significantly lower than the other two groups. Conclusion: Data and information collected in here would be used as reference to develop a more proper way to support of the speech rehabilitation for the laryngectomees.

      • 우리말 소리갈(국어음성학)에 대한 연구 : 주시경, 김두봉, 최현배, 이극로를 중심으로

        The purpose of this paper is to review the contribution made by some phoneticians including Si-gyung Chu, Du-bong, Kim, Hyun-bae Choi, and Geuk-ro Lee in the early 20th century. It is known that the period canbe characterized as the coexistence of traditional phonetics and modern phonetics. Si-gyung Chu well recognized the physical nature of speech sounds from the physiological point of view. Although Du-bong, Kim adapted Chu's approach in some ways, he made some more detailed modifications in explaining the vocal organs. Hyun-bae Choi tried to explain the consonants and vowels systematically based on Western theories of phonetics. Finally, Geuk-ro Lee made the most significant contribution by introducing the experimental phonetics. Keywords : traditional phonetics, vocal organs, experimental phonetics

      • 협력학습을 통한 실어증자의 그룹치료 효과

        This study attempted to determine the effects of a cooperative and cognitive group therapy compared to individual therapy in 24 aphasic subjects. Two dependent variables were measured overall language performance, functional communication skills. 18 subjects with different types and severity of aphasia participated in the group therapy. 6 aphasic subjects participated in the individual therapy and they functioned as a control group. The subjects were ranged from 27 to 59 years in age. The group therapy using the cooperative learning utilized the following procedures. First, 6 aphasics constituted 1 group where each subject performed a task and they monitored one another. Second, 2 aphasics consisted 1 group and they cooperated to perform a task. Third, 3 groups with 2 aphasics in a group competed one another in a task where the 2 aphasics had to cooperated. Finally, the investigator gave the feedback to the group and she and the subjects discussed the overall procedures of the therapy. The above mentioned 2 tests were administered pre- and post-treatment. A repeated two-way ANOVA was performed for analysis. The results showed that the group therapy was more effective in improving overall language performance as compared to the individual therapy. And, the group therapy was more effective in increasing functional communication skills as compared to the individual therapy.
