        Effects of Liquid Pig Manure on Yield and Nutrition Supply of Green Manure Crops in Jeju

        The effects of liquid pig manure (LPM) on the yield and nutrient supply of green manure crops, such as hairy vetch alone and hairy vetch + rye mixture, were investigated. We used three treatments: no-fertilizer (NF); LPM, 4.0 t 10 a-1 (N-P2O5-K2O = 4.0-0.024-4.0 kg 10a-1); and chemical fertilizer (CF; N-P2O5-K2O = 4.0-0-4.0 kg 10a-1). The green manure crops, namely, Vicia villosa Roth. (hairy vetch) and Secale cereale L. (rye). were sown on March 11 and harvested on June 24, 2014. Yield of green manure crops significantly increased in hairy vetch + rye mixture plot compared with the hairy vetch alone plot. In hairy vetch alone plot, yield of green manure crops was increased by application of LPM and CF, but there were no significant differences. Yield of green manure crops in hairy vetch + rye fresh mixture plot significantly increased by the LPM and CF treatments, but no difference was noted between the LPM and CF treatments. Nitrogen supply by the green manure crops was higher in hairy vetch + rye mixture plot than hairy vetch alone plot. However, there was no significant difference. Phosphorus and potassium supply significantly increased in hairy vetch + rye mixture plot compared with hairy vetch alone plot. By treating LPM and CF, the nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium supply were higher than those in no fertilizer. In conclusion, LPM could replace CF. When planting green manure crops, the hairy vetch + rye mixture was more effective than hairy vetch alone to effectively use green manure crops.

        Comparative Analysis of the Mini-pterional and Supraorbital Keyhole Craniotomies for Unruptured Aneurysms with Numeric Measurements of Their Geometric Configurations

        Objective:Keyhole craniotomy is a modification of pterional craniotomy that allows for use of a minimally invasive approach toward cerebral aneurysms. Currently, mini-pterional (MPKC) and supraorbital keyhole craniotomies (SOKC) are commonly used. In this study, we measured and compared the geometric configurations of surgical exposure provided by MPKC and SOKC. Methods:Nine patients underwent MPKC and four underwent SOKC. Their postoperative contrast-enhanced brain computed tomographic scans were evaluated. The transverse and longitudinal diameters and areas of exposure were measured. The locations of the anterior communicating artery, bifurcation of the middle cerebral artery (MCAB), and the internal carotid artery (ICA) terminal were identified, and the working angles and depths for these targets were measured. Results:No significant differences in the transverse diameters of exposure were observed between MPKC and SOKC. However, the longitudinal diameters and the areas were significantly larger, by 1.5 times in MPKC. MPKC provided larger operable working angles for the targets. The angles by MPKC, particularly for the MCAB, reached up to 1.9-fold of those by SOKC. Greater working depths were required in order to reach the targets by SOKC, and the differences were the greatest in the MCAB by 1.6-fold. Conclusion:MPKC provides larger exposure than SOKC with a similar length of skin incision. MPKC allows for use of a direct transsylvian approach, and exposes the target in a wide working angle within a short distance. Despite some limitations in exposure, SOKC is suitable for a direct subfrontal approach, and provides a more anteromedial and basal view. MCAB and posteriorly directing ICA terminal aneurysms can be good candidates for MPKC.

        Cordyceps militaris Enhances Cell-Mediated Immunity in Healthy Korean Men

        Cordyceps militaris is a mushroom traditionally used for diverse pharmaceutical purposes in East Asia, including China, and has been found to be effective for enhancing immunity through various types of animal testing. The aim of this study is to determine the efficacy of C. militaris for enhancing cell-mediated immunity and its safety in healthy male adults. Healthy male adults were divided into the experimental group (n = 39), given 1.5 g/day of ethanol treated C. militaris in capsules, and the control group (n = 40), given the same number of identical placebo capsules filled with microcrystalline cellulose and lactose for 4 weeks from February 13 to March 14, 2012; the natural killer (NK) cell activity, lymphocyte proliferation index (PI), and T-helper cell 1 (Th1) cytokine cluster (interferon [IFN]-γ, interleukin [IL]-12, IL-2, and tumor necrosis factor [TNF]-α) were measured, along with stability test, at weeks 0, 2, and 4. The C. militaris group showed a statistically significant greater increase in NK200 (P = .0010), lymphocyte PI (P ≤ .0001), IL-2 (P = .0096), and IFN-γ (P = .0126), compared with the basal level, than the placebo group. There was no statistically significant adverse reaction. C. militaris enhanced the NK cell activity and lymphocyte proliferation and partially increased Th1 cytokine secretion. Therefore, C. militaris is safe and effective for enhancing cell-mediated immunity of healthy male adults.

        In this study, aluminum borate whisker reinforced Mg-3Al-2Ag-1Zn matrix composites were fabricated by the squeeze infiltration technique. The purpose is to develop materials for elevated temperature applications. Microstructure observation revealed successful fabrication of the metal matrix composites, namely no cast defects such as porosity and matrix/reinforcement interface delamination etc. High temperature hardness and creep rupture properties were improved significantly with addition of Ag to the Al borate whisker reinforced Mg alloy composite. $Mg_3Ag$ phase formed during aging heat treatment could improve creep properties of the Mg matrix composites.

        Short-Term Forecast Model of Apartment Jeonse Prices Using Search Frequencies of News Article Keywords

        Housing prices, including Jeonse prices, are impacted by human psychological attitudes. News articles are one of the factors that influence such human psychological attitudes. Previous studies have confirmed the potential for utilization of news articles in the analysis of the real estate market. However, no actual studies on real estate price forecasting through news articles have yet been carried out. Accordingly, the present study proposes a short-term forecast model of apartment Jeonse prices through big data analysis of news articles. The forecast model was a regression model using Jeonse prices for apartments in the Pangyo area as the dependent variable and the Internet search frequency of news article keywords as the independent variable. The news article-based forecast model was created from the independent variable made as a combination of 4 keywords with a time shift of 10 months. Comparison with time-series models frequently used for real estate price forecasting showed that the model was superior in terms of forecast accuracy and forecast lead time. It is expected that use of the news article-based forecast model according to the present study will allow for the establishment of more effective Jeonse price-related policies.

        Fertilizer NPK Recommendations for Kiwi Cultivation Based on Soil Testing in Jeju

        This study was carried out in order to determine the Kiwi fruit (Actinidia deliciosa cv. Hayward) fertilizationstandards in Jeju. Soil chemical properties and mineral contents of leaves, and the amounts of fertilizers wereinvestigated in 35 places of volcanic ash soils and in 15 places of non volcanic ash soils. Tests were made toprovide the most resonable fertilizer recommendation for kiwi fruit based on soil analytical data and leafmineral contents response to the NPK fertilizers. Average pH was 6.0, organic matter (OM) content was 113 gkg-1, available P2O5 content was 288 mg kg-1, and exchangeable K, Ca, and Mg were 1.61, 10.5, and 3.1 cmolckg-1, respectively for volcanic ash soils. Also, Average pH was 5.7, organic matter (OM) content was 48.3 gkg-1, available P2O5 content was 541 mg kg-1, and exchangeable K, Ca, and Mg were 1.45, 6.6, and 2.2 cmolckg-1, respectively for non volcanic ash soils in Jeju. Available phosphorus contents of volcanic ash soils, werelower than those of non volcanic ash soils. However, soil organic matter contents were higher than those of theoptimun range. P and Mg contents of kiwi fruit leves were lower in comparison with a suitable standard leaf,but K and Ca contents were higher. The amounts of N, P2O5, and K2O fertilizers applied to farmers' fields wereN 22.4 kg 10a-1, P2O5 21.6 kg 10a-1, and K2O 18.3 kg 10a-1 in volcanic ash soils. Those of non volcanic ashsoils were 17.1 kg 10a-1, 13.5 kg 10a-1 and 13.3 kg 10a-1. The Yield had no difference between the volcanic ashsoils and non volcanic ash soils. The relationship between soil chemical properties and amounts of fertilizeruse were observed. The soil organic matter contents werenegatively correlated with amounts of nitrogenfertilizers. Soil available phosphorus contents were negatively correlated with amounts of phosphatefertilizer. Also, Soil exchangeable potassium contents showed negative correlation with amount of potassiumfertilizer. Recommended fertilizer amounts for N and P2O5 were determined by using the soil OM andavailable P2O5 contents. Recommended K2O fertilizer were determined by exchangeable K contents in soils. Amounts of standard fertilization N-P2O5-K2O fertilizer in volcanic ash soils were 16.5-16.5-11.1 kg/10a forkiwi fruit of 8 years or older, and 13.5-8.8-9.0 kg/10a in non volcanic ash soils.

        토픽모델링을 통한 부처간 저출산・고령사회 정책 가외성(Redundancy)의 실증분석:보건복지부와 고용노동부의 백서를 중심으로

        우리나라는 수십 년간 정책적 난제로서의 저출산・고령사회 관련 문제를 탈피하지 못하고 있다. 저출산・고령사회 관련 정책은 다양한 이해관계자들이 얽혀있으며, 다수의 부처가 연관되어 있기 때문에, 정책의 유사・중복 문제로부터 자유롭기 어렵다. 이에 본 연구는 저출산・고령사회 관련 정책의 가외성 파악을 주된 목적으로 설정하였다. 이를 위해 키워드 보조 토픽 모델을 사용하여 고용노동부, 보건복지부 발간 백서를 분석한 후, 코사인 유사도를 계산하여 부처 간 정책의 가외성을 도출하고자 하였다. 분석 결과, 토픽별 비율의 변화 추이는 저출산・고령사회기본계획이 제시하는 주요 전략 및 패러다임에 영향을 받았다. 결과적으로 7개 토픽 중 4개 토픽(청년지원, 사회안전망 강화, 돌봄/교육, 여성지원/성평등/재생산권)에서 분절의 경향성이 나타났으며, 1개 토픽(워라밸)에서만 유사・중복의 경향성이 나타났다. 코사인 유사도 또한 부처별 정책 연계를 강조한 제3차 기본계획 기간에는 증가하였으나 포괄적이고 추상적인 패러다임을 제시했던 제4차 기본계획 기간에는 감소하였다. 이러한 연구 결과는 저출산・고령사회 관련 정책의 가외성이 전반적으로 유사・중복적이기보다는 분절적 양상을 보였으며, 최근들어 그 정도가 심화됨을 의미한다. The Republic of Korea has struggled for decades to escape issues related to a low fertility rate and aging society as a policy challenge. Since these issues involve a wide range of stakeholders and multiple government ministries, it is difficult to avoid redundancy and overlap problems. Therefore, the primary objective of this study is to identify redundancy in policies designed to solve issues related to a low fertility rate and aging society. By using a Keyword-Assisted Topic Model, researchers analyzed white papers published by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Ministry of Health and Welfare and calculated the cosine similarity to identify policy redundancies between the ministries. The analysis revealed that the trend of topic proportion changes was influenced by the main strategies and paradigms proposed in the national basic plans for low fertility and ageing society. Of the seven topics analyzed, four topics (youth support, strengthening social safety nets, care/education, and women’s support/gender equality/reproductive rights) exhibited fragmentation, while only one topic (work-life balance) showed signs of redundancy. Furthermore, cosine similarity increased during the period of the 3rd Basic Plan, which emphasized inter-ministerial policy coordination, but decreased during the 4th Basic Plan, which presented more comprehensive and abstract paradigms. These findings suggest that, overall, policies related to low fertility and an ageing society tend to be more fragmented than redundant, and this fragmentation has deepened in recent years.
