Motivated by Charteris-Black’s (2021) observations on changing meanings of COVID-19-related linguistic expressions, this study shows that the polysemous lexical item bubble’s extended uses are significantly accounted for by COVID-era usages. A total of 4,119 tokens of bubble-compounds (X + bubble and bubble + X) were identified in the Coronavirus Corpus. The major categories of bubble-compounds’ uses are the prototypical sense (Prototypical), those referring to the ephemeral nature of bubbles (EPHEMERALITY), and those evoking an enclosed space with boundaries (ENCLOSURE). The study argues that the changing meanings of bubble-compounds are metaphorically motivated (Lakoff 2006[1993]) and shows how conceptual motivation helps obtain the intended construal. The tokens classified in the ENCLOSURE category constitute more than two-thirds of the total dataset (68.41%), and the instances all refer to the concept of pandemic-era social restrictions. Based on the distribution, the study demonstrates that the radial network of the polysemous lexeme bubble has been expanding, motivated by real-world experiences via conceptual metaphor and image-schematic construal. The discussion also touches on different reification patterns of the semantic properties of bubble’s counterparts in three non-Indo-European languages, Korean, Japanese, and Thai, where different patterns of form and meaning pairings are accounted for in construing the concepts of EPHEMERALITY and ENCLOSURE. This crosslinguistic comparison provides an outstanding illustration of how the meanings covered by a single lexical item in one language can be carved up in different but still conceptually motivated ways in other languages.

Cancer patients suffer from significant psychological distress and considerable psychological morbidity throughout the course of their disease. The diagnosis of cancer, active treatment, Palliative care and aftermath of cancer involve a long process of adaptation to multiple threats and stressful events. This review focused on psychosocial aspects of cancer, Psychological reaction and adaptation of patients to cancer, Psychological issues and psychiatric disorders in patients with cancer, and the need for screening of psychological distress at all stages of illness.

Biodegradable polyfumarateurethane (PFU) for delivery vehicle using di-(2-hydroxypropyl fumarate (DHPF), PEG (polyethylene glycol) and HDI (1.6-diisocyanatohexane) was designed to be degraded through hydrolysis and enzymatic degradation mechanisms due to its ester bond along the polymer backbond. mPEG-PLA block copolymer was also synthesised by anionic ring opening polymerization of L-lactide onto mPEG(methoxy polyethylene glycol) to use for letting the interfacial layer stable. Using water-in-oil-in-water double emulsion technique, nanoparticles encapsulating water or fluorescein isothiocyanate were fabricated. The nanoparticles have PEG on their surfaces which helps nanoparticles to avoid the immune system. The morphology of these nanoparticles was characterized by DLS, TEM, FE-SEM and fluorescent microscopy. Encapsulation efficiency and in vitro drug release efficiency were also confirmed by UV/Vis spectroscopy.

Recently, Korea has actively entered the global society and has rapidly become globalized in the domestic society. The K-pop(Korean pop) has evolved into the third generation called K-Culture (Korean culture), which has expanded to many countries around the world, especially China and Southeast Asia. As a result, many foreign learners from various countries are flowing in to learn Korean language and culture. Meanwhile the number of marriage immigrants increased steadily every year, in which the majority of them are Chinese. Women marriage immigrants who married Korean spouses and settled in Korea are in a different position compare to foreign students and migrant workers. They face the task of learning not only Korean language, but also lifestyle and culture. Also as members of the families, they must simultaneously play various roles such as spouses, mothers, and daughters-in-law. In addition, Korean Family Culture is different from it in their own countries. Therefore Korean Family culture is an important element that female marriage immigrants must learn, in order to help live a stable life and build a healthy family. It is necessary not only to learn Korean, but also to understand each other's culture, meanwhile to acknowledge the difference from the culture of the mother country. Under this background, this paper suggested how to prepare a Korean family culture education plan by analyzing the results based on in-depth interviews with advanced Chinese learners. In addition, Korean cultural education teaching and learning methods were presented utilizing the program 『Multicultural Gobuyeoljeon』.

Columbianadin (CBN), a natural coumarin from Angelica decursiva (Umbelliferae), is known to have various biological activities including anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. In this study, the anti-proliferative mechanism of actions mediated by CBN was investigated in HCT-116 human colon cancer cells. CBN effectively suppressed the growth of colon cancer cells. Low concentration (up to 25 mM) of CBN induced apoptosis, and high concentration (50 mM) of CBN induced necroptosis. The induction of apoptosis by CBN was correlated with the modulation of caspase-9, caspase-3, Bax, Bcl-2, Bim and Bid, and the induction of necroptosis was related with RIP-3, and caspase-8. In addition, CBN induced the accumulation of ROS and imbalance in the intracellular antioxidant enzymes such as SOD-1, SOD-2, catalase and GPx-1. These findings demonstrate that CBN has the potential to be a candidate in the development of anti-cancer agent derived from natural products.
