        Most of colonic afenocarcinornas are originated from preexisting adenomas and compositions of mucins of the adenocarcinoma are different from those of normal colonic mucosae. Using 3 kinds of lectins such as Arachis hypogae agglutinin (PNA), Dolichos biflorus agglutinin (DBA), and Ulex europaeus agglutinin-I (UEA-I), the author had performed an immunocytochemical staining on the normal mucosa, non-neoplastic epithelial polyps, neoplastic adenomas and adenocarcinomas of colon to evaluate their lectin binding characters. The results obtained are as follows: 1. On the normal colonic mucosae, DBA showed supranuclear positive stains on the superficial mucous cells, and PNA and UEA-I showed negative reactions. 2. DBA showed supranuclear positive reactions on the non-neoplastic epithelial polyps, and PNA showed focal supranuclear positive reaction on the hyperplastic polyps. And UEA-I showed negative reactions to both non-neoplastic polyps. And UEA-I showed negative reactions to both non-neoplastic and hyperplastic polyps. 3. DBA showed focal supranuclear positive reaction on the tubular adenomas and partly positive reaction on the villous adenomas. On the contrary, PNA and UEA-I showed negative reaction on the adenomas. 4. DBA showed supranuclear positive reaction on the mild and moderate dysplastic mucosa, and PNA and UEA-I showed negative reaction on the dysplastic mucosae. 5. Among 17 cases of colonic adenocarcinomas, sixteen cases showed apical and glycocalyceal positive reaction by UEA-1. However, only one case showed weak cytoplasmic positive reaction by DBA, and 5 cases showed linear glycocalyceal and apical cytoplasmic positive reactions by PNA. Above findings suggest that normal and benign colonic epithelia either lose DBA receptor (N-acetyl galactosamine) or gain PNA as they transform to the malignant cell.

        Risk Factors Related to Poor Threshold, Discrimination, and Identification Scores in Patients with Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Olfactory Dysfunction

        Background and Objectives Although patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) presenta similar degree of olfactory dysfunction, their impairments in threshold, discrimination, andidentification test results may vary. We investigated factors related to each of these componentsusing the Korean version of the Sniffin’ Sticks test II in CRS patients. Subjects and Method A total of 120 CRS patients with olfactory dysfunction were enrolledand assigned to hyposmia and anosmia groups. Correlation between the three components wereexamined in both groups. We also subdivided patients into higher- and lower-score groups accordingto the threshold, discrimination, and identification scores within the hyposmia andanosmia groups to determine associated factors among the demographic factors, CRS severityon computed tomography (CT) and endoscopic findings. Results Threshold, discrimination, and identification scores were significantly correlated inhyposmia patients. Age [odds ratio (OR), 0.94] was associated with the threshold score, and theanterior olfactory cleft opacification score (OR, 1.31) on CT was associated with identificationdifficulties in hyposmia patients. The posterior olfactory cleft opacification score was associatedwith threshold (OR, 2.76) and identification difficulties (OR, 1.68) in anosmia patients. However,we could not identify significant risk factors for discrimination in both groups. Conclusion We demonstrated that the three components of the olfactory function test forCRS are significantly correlated in patients with hyposmia. Age was associated with thresholdscore in hyposmia patients and CRS severity, and with discrimination scores in both hyposmiaand anosmia patients. These findings will help the understanding of pathophysiology of CRSrelatedolfactory dysfunction.

      • 말기신부전 환자에서 혈액투석 전후의 QT간격분산 비교

        Background: Some cases of QT interval, corrected QT interval (QTc), QT dispersion (QTd) and corrected QT dispersion (QTcd) have been reported in ESRD, but these results are variable and the influence of a hemodialysis is still controversial, In this study, we investigated the effect of hemodialysis on QT and QTc interval and QT and QTc dispersion in patients with ESRD 15 min before and 15 minute after each hemodialysis. Methods: Sixty-seven patients with ESRD (men 33 & women 34) on three-times stable hemodialysis (>3 months) were randomly enrolled. Fifty control subjects with a similar age and normal renal function were enrolled from this hospital. Routine biochemical studies were measured pre- and post dialysis, at the time of the ECG. Plasma Na+, K+, BUN, creatinine, ionized calcium and phosphate were checked. Twelve-lead electrocardiographs were performed at 10㎜/mv and 50㎜/s using a HewIett-Packard Pagewriter 100, before and after a single hemodialysis session.The QT interval was measured from the onset of the QRS complex to the end of the T wave. If the end of the T wave was not clear in a particular lead then it was excluded from analysis. When U waves were present, the end of the T wave was taken as the nadir between the T and U waves. Each QT interval was corrected for heart rate using Bazett's formula (QTc==QT/√(RR)) (ms). The difference between maximal and minimal QT interval duration was defined as QT dispersion (QTd) in each of the 12 leads. Result: This study demonstrates that QT, QTd, QTcd is higher in hemodialysis patients compared with control subjects, and QT and QTd rise postdialysis to levels comparable to those seen acutely following myocardial infarction, when patients are at greatly increased risk of potentially fatal ventricular arrhythmias, Conclusions: QT interval and QT dispersion, markers of risk for arrhythmias and sudden death, are elevated in hemodialysis patients, and rise postdialysis. QT interval and QT dispersion is an easily obtainable, noninvasive, simple, inexpensive, and widely available method of risk stratification in uremic patients receiving chronic dialysis. Additional studies are needed to clarity whether increased postdialysis QT dispersion results in an increased occurrence of arrhythmias.

        구성원의 회복탄력성과 팀 유효성과의 관계에서 자기관리역량의 매개효과

        긍정적인 심리학의 관심이 증가하면서, 직장 문제를 해결하고 조직의 성과를 증대시키기 위한 관점에서 인적자 원의 강점을 탐구하데 관심이 증대되고 있다. 이전의 연구는 회복탄력성이 직장 스트레스 예방과 같은 바람직한 직원 태도, 행동 및 성과와 긍정적으로 관련이 있다는 것을 암시한다. 그러나 조직구성원들의 회복탄력성-팀 유효 성 관계의 근본적인 메커니즘을 이해하는 데는 부족한 측면이 있었다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 회복탄력성과 팀 유효 성의 관계에서자기관리역량의 매개효과를 파악하고자 한다. 이 연구는 조직구성원이 인식한 회복탄력성과 팀 유효성 사이의 관계에 대한 메커니즘을 탐구한다. 연구 샘플 은 대전의 공공기관과 민간기업에서 일하는 직원(N = 500)으로 구성됐다. 데이터는 체계적 무작위 표본추출을 통 해 설문지조사를 통해 수집되었다. 직원 회복탄력성이 팀 유효성에 미치는 영향을 자기관리역량에 의해 매개된다 는 가설을 설정하고 검증하였다. 계층적 다중 회귀 분석을 사용하여 가설 검정을 수행했으며 매개효과를 검정하 기 위해 SPSS가 활용되었다. 분석결과는 구성원의 회복탄력성이 팀 유효성 사이의 긍정적인 영향을 미치며, 그 결 과는 구성원의 회복탄력성이 팀 유효성의 관계를 자기관리역량이 조절한다는 것을 보여 주고 있다. 능력에 영향 을 미친다는 것을 강조한다. 구성원의 회복탄력성이 팀 유효성 직접적인 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라 자기관리역량 을 통해 팀 유효성에 간접적으로 영향을 미친다는 것을 의미한다. With increased popularity of positive psychology, there is a greater emphasis on exploring positive human resource strengths to address the workplace challenges and augment organizational performance. Previous research suggests that resilience positively relates to desired employee attitudes, behaviors, and performance such as preventing job stress. However, it would be intriguing to understand the underlying mechanism of employee resilience-team effectiveness relationship. Towards this, the study examines mediating effects of self competency. This study explores the mechanism of the relationship between employee resilience and team effectiveness in the context of organizations. The study sample comprised employees (N = 500) working in the public organization and private enterprise in Daejeon. Data were collected with the help of self-administered questionnaires through systematic random sampling. A model was developed and tested in which the effects of employee resilience on team effectiveness were hypothesized to be mediated by self competency. The hypotheses testing was done using hierarchical multiple regression and for testing the mediating effects, bootstrapping in SPSS was used. The results provide empirical evidence for the positive relationship between employee resilience and team effectiveness. Also, the results emphasize that employee resilience influence self competency. As hypothesized, The mediation is partial which means that employee resilience influences team effectiveness directly as well as indirectly through self competency. The study offers significant advancements for both resilience and team effectiveness research.

      • Decreased of Clusterin mRNA Expression of Epididymis Following Exposure to Bisphenol A Diglycidyl Ether during Gestation and Lactation in Sprague-Dawley Rats

        Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE)는 비스페놀 A와 에피클로로하이드린의 축합에 의해 만들어지는 물질로 상업용 액상 에폭시 수지의 주성분이다. 본 연구는 clusterin mRNA 발현이 BADGE의 노출된 생식기계 독성에 연관되어 있는지를 연구하기 위해 수행하였다. BADGE는 SPF Sprague-Dawley 임신 랏트에 임신 6일부터 수유기까지 하루에 한 번 0 (대조군)과 375 mg/kg/day를 경구 투여하였다. 수컷 새끼는 일반 사항과 몸무게, 일반 발달 지표(예, 항문과 생식기 사이의 거리, 이개개전, 절치붕출, 유두잔류, 안검개열, 고환하강, 포피박리 등) 등을 관찰하였다. 대조군과 투여군에서 다섯 마리의 수컷 새끼는 출생 후 3, 6와 9주에 부검하여 부고환의 조직학적 변화 등을 관찰하였다. BADGE 375 mg/kg/day 투여군에서 항문과 생식기 사이의 거리는 대조군보다 길어지는 경향을 보였다. 출생 후 6주와 9주에서 부고환의 상대 무게는 대조군보다 약간 증가하였으나 조직학적인 변화는 관찰되지 않았다. BADGE 투여군에서 clusterin mRNA 발현량은 대조군에 비해 3주에 56%, 6주에 57% 그리고 9주에 86% 감소하였다. 이런 결과는 랏트의 부고환에서 clusterin은 BADGE에 반응하는 유전자 중 하나일 수 있다는 가능성을 나타낸다.
