The present study is of ultra-fine structure of Cryptococcus neoformans by means of electron microscopy and reveals the following : 1) In constrast to the bacteria, the normal Cryptococcus neofrmans contains nuclear enveloped with nuclear menbrane, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, distinct cell wall and cell membrane, vacuoles and storage granules as observed in the eucaryotic cells. 2) In apparent cell walls and cell membrane with the appearance of electron transparent area (ETA) and changes of cell morphology were observed in the ultra-violet ray irradiated cell. 2) In apparent cell walls and cell membrance with the appreance of electron transparent area (ETA) and changes of cell morphology were observed in the ultra-violet ray irradiated cell. 3) Morphology changes and cytoplasmic element abnormality was increased with irradiated time. 4) Increase of electron transparent area was thought to be associated with degradation of cell.

Defective or inadequate semen quality, usually presenting as low sperm count or poor sperm motility , is recognizable by semen analysis. However, the ability of spermatozoa to fertilize an ovum is not determined used in various experiments. In this study, hamster oocyte sperm penetration assay was used to determine the fertilizing capacity of sperms in 20 subjects which divided into two groups, group A with 10 normal fertile men, and group B with 10 infertile men. The % penetration in group A and group B were 61% and 35% respectively, which showed statistically not significant but fertilization index was significantly different between group A(FI=2.24) and group B(FI=O.05). Additionally it seemed that the percentage of sperm penetraton was influenced more by the motility of spermatozoa than by the number.

Survival and migration of transplanted neural stem cells (NSCs) are prerequisites for therapeutic benefits in spinal cord injury. We have shown that survival of NSC grafts declines after transplantation into the injured spinal cord, and that combining treadmill training (TMT) enhances NSC survival via insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). Here, we aimed to obtain genetic evidence that IGF-1 signaling in the transplanted NSCs determines the beneficial effects of TMT. We transplanted NSCs heterozygous (+/-) for Igf1r, the gene encoding IGF-1 receptor, into the mouse spinal cord after injury, with or without combining TMT. We analyzed the influence of genotype and TMT on locomotor recovery and survival and migration of NSC grafts. In vitro experiments were performed to examine the potential roles of IGF-1 signaling in the migratory ability of NSCs. Mice receiving +/- NSC grafts showed impaired locomotor recovery compared with those receiving wild-type (+/+) NSCs. Locomotor improvement by TMT was more pronounced with +/+ grafts. Deficiency of one allele of Igf1r significantly reduced survival and migration of the transplanted NSCs. Although TMT did not significantly influence NSC survival, it substantially enhanced the extent of migration for only +/+ NSCs. Cultured neurospheres exhibited dynamic motility with cytoplasmic protrusions, which was regulated by IGF-1 signaling. IGF-1 signaling in transplanted NSCs may be essential in regulating their survival and migration. Furthermore, TMT may promote NSC graft-mediated locomotor recovery via activation of IGF-1 signaling in transplanted NSCs. Dynamic NSC motility via IGF-1 signaling may be the cellular basis for the TMT-induced enhancement of migration.

Habitual abortion is defined as three or more successive abortions. The pregnancy outcomes were assessed in infants born to women who underwent immunotherapy for recurrent abortion. To determine the newborn the presence of any adverse effects in infants of mothers who received immunotherapy and to evaluate infants using the Bayley developmental test. 11 gravidae with previous history of unexplained recurrent abortion treated by immunotherapy. Immunization with husband`s leukocyte was done before or during pregnancy until 16~18 weeks of gestation. As a result, there were no define abnormal neonatal outcome, neonatal complication, congenital anomalies and intrauterine fetal death. Consequently, there were no define abnormal neonatal outcome as a result of immunization. All psychologic, psychosomatic and physical developments were found to be normal.
