This stucy intends to rectify the misunderstanding that the pattern structure of Korean Traditional dance is a "Pattemless art." It traces the reasons, and demonstrates the groundless bases of said reasons, for such misunderstanding as attributable to the lack of artistry among the dancers in the ancient times or to the social condition of the particular period when dancing could not be considered a stable occupation although it was specialized as a branch of arts. Further, the study theoretically traces and clarifies the nature of the "true pattem of dance," and determines whether the mission of art succession can be charged upon the principle of technical behavior or the mission could be possible based on the spiritual structure of "skill of ideal value" derived from a symbol of full maturity through endless penance and self-denial. To achieve this goals. First, it is necessary to define the general principle of "pattern concept" which is recognized in the area of dancing art; secondly, it is equally necessary to find out "the historical background of pattern creation" in japan designed to maximize the efficiency of expression and delivery in the early days of Kabuki as a stage art; and finally, to re-examine the current phase and development of Pattern function," which was tested for a long time and its development. Without this comparative study based on empirical and historical facts, it is impossible to assess the peculiar position and originality of "pattern function" of Korean dance. With the above goals, this study tries to search for the principle of "pattern concept" and "the mission of Korean Specific pattern" under the following areas: I.The background of pattern formation II.The pattern concept of Kabuki dance III.The patern concept of Korean dance IV.The concept of original pattern and the principle of succession

This thesis, centering on Japanese IEMOTO and IEMOTO SYSTEM, is dealing with what kind of mental continuity and spirit of art created modern traditional art, with making a balance between the preservation and creation of one artistic connection. For the purpose of this study, 1 tried to observe the way of accomplishing art and trace the foundation which have supported the spirit of art. And also I tried to reveal the logical foundation, which has been called the ideal form of the spirit of art, emphasizing the matrix of motion and at the same time developing beyond that matrix of motion. Finally, I made a general survey of the function and system of IEMOTO and IEMOTO SYSTEM which have contributed to the preservation and development of the traditional art in spite of the recent mammonistic trend of art and also tried to induce from this survey the various methods of the establishment and development of Korean traditional art. I proposed following contents to deal with above mentioned study. ● Preface ● The main subject. 1. Way of accomplishment to art and IEMOTO SYSTEM 2. Manner of accomplishment to art and it’s value. 3.
