Vol.2014 No.11
The first flap-wise modal frequency of Gurney Flap was lower than the prediction and elastic deformation was resulted at high speed operation condition and hinge boundary condition was identified as its cause through the simple modal test. Design modification for increasing natural frequency was conducted for minimizing the elastic deformation at maximum 35Hz operating condition which is the design requirement condition. Brass bushing was applied instead of rotating bearing to minimize free play and a gurney flap design modification was conducted to increase of the natural frequency. And sizing control of other components were conducted to satisfy the configuration requirement of the active gurney flap actuator. Test and analysis were performed to verify modal frequency increases of modified Active Gurney Flap Actuator design.
