Purpose: Hereditary parkinsonism genes consist of causative genes of familial Parkinson’s disease (PD) with a locus symbol prefix(PARK genes) and hereditary atypical parkinsonian disorders that present atypical features and limited responsiveness to levodopa(non-PARK genes). Although studies have shown that hereditary parkinsonism genes are related to idiopathic PD at the phenotyp ic, gene expression, and genomic levels, no study has systematically investigated connectivity among the proteins encoded bythese genes at the protein-protein interaction (PPI) level. Materials and Methods: Topological measurements and physical interaction enrichment were performed to assess PPI networksconstructed using some or all the proteins encoded by hereditary parkinsonism genes (n=96), which were curated using the On line Mendelian Inheritance in Man database and literature. Results: Non-PARK and PARK genes were involved in common functional modules related to autophagy, mitochondrial or lyso somal organization, catecholamine metabolic process, chemical synapse transmission, response to oxidative stress, neuronalapoptosis, regulation of cellular protein catabolic process, and vesicle-mediated transport in synapse. The hereditary parkinson ism proteins formed a single large network comprising 51 nodes, 83 edges, and three PPI pairs. The probability of degree distribu tion followed a power-law scaling behavior, with a degree exponent of 1.24 and a correlation coefficient of 0.92. LRRK2 was iden tified as a hub gene with the highest degree of betweenness centrality; its physical interaction enrichment score was 1.28, whichwas highly significant. Conclusion: Both PARK and non-PARK genes show high connectivity at the PPI and biological functional levels.

Mill scale, an iron waste, was used to separate magnetite particles for the adsorption of phosphate from aqueous solution. Mill scale has a layered structure composed of wustite (FeO), magnetite (Fe3O4), and hematite (Fe2O3). Because magnetite shows the highest magnetic property among these iron oxides, it can be easily separated from the crushed mill scale particles. Several techniques were employed to characterize the separated particles. Mill scale-derived magnetite particles exhibited a strong uptake affinity to phosphate in a wide pH range of 3-7, with the maximum adsorptive removal of 100%, at the dosage of 1 g/L, pH 3-5. Langmuir isotherm model well described the equilibrium data, exhibiting maximum adsorption capacities for phosphate up to 4.95 and 8.79 mg/g at 298 and 308 K, respectively. From continuous operation of the packed-bed column reactor operated with different EBCT (empty bed contact time) and adsorbent particle size, the breakthrough of phosphate started after 8-22 days of operation. After regeneration of the column reactor with 0.1N NaOH solution, 95-98% of adsorbed phosphate could be detached from the column reactor.

The purpose of this paper is to develope a measurement system which is remotely controlled over the GPIB (general purpose interface bus) and directly operated on a local situtation. The system consists of a microcomputer unit, a controller unit and a measurement unit. Especially the measurement unit can be easely exchanged. therefore this system will be applicated In various situation of fields with little effort.

Efforts to find etiologies and understand pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD) have progressed over decades from epidemiological studies or biochemical studies on brain tissues of PD to discovering genes responsible for familial Parkinson's diseases and dissecting their roles and mechanisms in dopaminergic neuronal death at the molecular level. Eleven loci have been identified in familial PD and five genes have cloned. Although diverse genetic and environmental factors were identified, mechanisms of neurodegeneration by these etiological factors converge into four basic mechanisms; oxidative stress, mitochondrial complex I dysfunction, impairment of ubiquitin-proteasome pathway, and accumulation and aggregation of misfolded/unfolded proteins. These mechanisms appear to be closely interconnected with each other and lead to complex downstream cell death machineries. Understanding more sophisticated pathogenesis of dopaminergic neuronal death will help elucidating critical steps in dopaminergic cell death and developing therapeutic agents in the future.
HMM에 의한 한국어음성의 자동분할 시스템의 구현에 관한 연구

본 연구에서는 HMM(Hidden Markov Model) 및 Levelbuilding 알고리즘을 이용하여 인식대상 음소열의 표본 집합(훈련패턴 집합)을 입력으로 하는 음성의 자동 분할 시스템을 구현하였다. 본 시스템은 자연스럽게 발음되어진 연결음 음성으로부터 표준 음소모델을 생성한다. 본 시스템의 구성은 초기화 과정, HMM학습과정 그리고 Levelbuilding을 이용한 분리 및 CLustering 과정으로 구성되어 있다. 초기화 과정에서는 제어 정보를 이용하여 훈련패턴 집합으로부터 초기 음소 집합 군을 생성한다. Levelbuilding을 이용한 분리 및 Clustering 단계에서는 음소 모델과 제어 정보를 이용하여 훈련패턴들을 음소 단위로 분리하고, 분리된 후보 음소들을 Clustering하여 음소집합 군을 생성한다. 음소모델의 구성에 변화가 없을 때까지 이 작업을 반복 수행하여 최적의 음소모델을 생성한다. 본 연구에서는 3개 이하의 숫자단어로 구성된 연결되어 음성 패턴을 대상으로 실험하였다. 연결단어에 대한 음소의 표준모델 생성과정에서 가장 중요한 처리인 훈련패턴의 자동분할 과정을 분석하기 위하여 각 반복과정에서 분리된 정보를 그래프로 도시화하여 확인하였다.
