Six to twelve weeks old ICR mice were used as besic study on cryopreservation of mouse embryo to estimate critical temperatures of mouse embryo during freezing, and to study survival rate of frozen mouse embryo transfered to recipients. Embryos cooled at 1℃/min to -50℃ or -60℃ before plunging into liquid nitrogen had best survival rates. When the embryos were cooled at 7℃/min to -10℃, 60% of embryos was survived, but the survival ;rate was decreased when temperature at plunging into liquid nitrogen was lowered. Generally morula stage embryo was more tolerable against cooling than 8-cell stage embryo. The survival rate of embryos which were cooled to -40 or -50℃ at rate of 1 or 7℃ per min. and plunged into LN₂ was higher in morula than in 8-cell embryos exposed both in DMSO and glycerol. When the embryos were transferred into recipients, implantation rate was 12.2% in frozen embryo and 23.8% in fresh embryo.

To synchronize estrus of cattle with PGF₂α or its analogs, either inject females with it twice 10 to 12 days apart or implant progestagens for 9 to 10 days and inject with it at or near the time of implant removal and breed approximately 3 days after the second injection or after the implant removal. Another way of synchronizing bovine estrus involves management system using estrus detection in combination with PGF₂α administration. Using these system, either detect estrus for 4 to 5 days and breed by heat and inject females with PGF₂α that did not respond and breed 3 days later or inject all females with PGF₂α and breed by heat and inject females not responding to first injection 10 to 12 days later and breed them by heat.

To study the effect of body weight on conception, 9 years of records on 306 yearling heifers were used. Data were collected from the Kansas state University Polled Hereford herd at Manhattan, Kansas from March 1972 to August 1980. Yearling heifers were divided by the conception status and data from pregnant heifers were divided by the conception date (May 20 through June 9, June 10 through June 30 and July 1 through July 21). Body weight were measured each month from January through June and November and body condition scores were takes by weight-height ratio in May and November. The average body weight and age of heifers at first conception were 289.2±36.6 Kg and 449.6±21.5 days, respectively and the correlation coefficient between them was r=0.449. Heifers that conceived weighed more in November aced January Than heifers that did not conceive, although body weight from February to June, body weight changes from November to May and body condition scores in May and November were not different. The average April weight affected conception date, thus heifers that conceived early were heavier. Body condition and body weight change shortly before the start of breeding season were more important than those of the previous fall for their conception.
