      • Potassium염이 궐련의 연기성분 이행량에 미치는 영향

        This study was conducted to evaluate the temperature decreasing of burning cone by adding the potassium salt to reconstituted tobacco sheet. To find effect of the potassium on the temperature, we examined the delivery smoke components and the distribution of aroma components effected tabacco taste by electronic nose system. The results are summarized as follows : 1.Burning cone temperature was decreased 100℃ that was identified by DTG curve. 2.When 3% potassium salt was added to reconstituted tobacco sheet, TPM, CO, tar, and nicotine in smoke delivery were lowed as 11%, 16%, 11%, and 16%, respectively and Co/tar ratio was decreased from 1.81 to 1.70. 3.By adding the potassium salt, carbonyl compounds in smoke, such as propionaldehyde and formaldehyde, were decreased as 17% and 5%, respectively And also acrolein, acetone and acetaldehyde were decreasing up to 9%. There was no change of phenolic compounds delivery. 4.Adding the potassium salt to reconstituted tobacco sheet is desirable for cigarette manufacture by no change of distribution and delivery of TPM and aroma which was the main factors of tobacco taste.

        The majority of ι-menthol is still obtained by freezing the oil of Mentha arvensis to crystallize the menthol present. This 'natural' menthol is then physically seperated by centrifuging the supernatant liquid away from the menthol crystal. But the price of natural ι-menthol has fluctuated widely so effort has been devoted to the production of ι-menthol by synthetic more readily available raw materials. In the 1970's, many researcher synthesised a new compounds with the menthol cooling effect. During this period many molecular structure designed and synthesised on concepts of correlation between structure and biological activity and the various types of molecule which give rise to cooling effect more than ι-menthol. Specially, N-alkyl-carboxamide group is substituted for the hydroxyl group in ι-menthol. Recently, the most active compounds synthesised is 4-methyl-3-(1-pyrrolidinyl)-2-[5H]-furanone. This compound is 35 times more powerful in the mouth and 512 times more powerful on the skin than ι-menthol. The cooling effect also lasts twice as long. While not yet commercially available, it is expected that these types of materials will be subjected to toxicological studies and will soon be sell on the market.

        The influence of tobacco additives on the composition of the combustion products in mainstream smoke is discussed. The effect of additives on the chemical composition of smoke have been further evaluated in order to discover additives that would alter the chemical composition of smoke. Tobacco was uniformly treated at a 1-5$\%$ level with 8 classes of additives. Group M treated with alkali metal salt and group S, F, O give lower tar, nicotine and CO values than the control. Group AN treated with natural antioxidant gives higher tar and CO values than the control. The increases are most probably due to the high transfer rate of the ingredients to smoke. M3 and P1 reduced above the $50\%$ of TSNA from the smoke. M4 and P1 reduced above the $50\%$ of HCN from the smoke. These results suggest that tobacco additives alter pyrolysis or combustion product distribution and provide fundamental data to lead the development of a RRP(reduced risk product).

        Deliveries of tar, nicotine, CO and $CO_2 in main stream smoke decreased as the potassium salt content of reconstituted tobacco leaves increased. The peak temperatures of the central region of a burning cone during a puff was in the range 940$^{\circ}C$∼430$^{\circ}C$ by IR thermal video system. The exogenous Potassium salt contents influenced the reduction of carbon-monoxide delivery through a decrease in the Peak temperature of the burning cone. Consequently, the amount of CO formed in the combustion Process was reduced by potassium salt. Moreover, the temperature of the burning cone was lowered, and the CO formed from carbonaceous reduction was decreased.

        In this study, we have investigated the natural and puffing combustibility of cigarette brands and the compulsory ash-drop, and analysed factors related to the materials. Cigarette combustibility was greatly affected by the tobacco weight in cigarettes rod. Combustion rate of 4AOR cigarette made by flue-cured tobacco was 5.02 $^{mm}/_{min}\;and\;10\%$ faster than 1BO cigarette. Combustion pattern has interrelation with sugars, chlorine and ash contents among tobacco components. Combustion rate of 4DL, flue-cured tobacco was 55 seconds faster than 1CL tobacco extremely much in sugars contents, and ash drop was maintained at $21\%$ longer. Combustion time and burning rate were fast in cigarette made by expanded tobacco slice and tobacco stem and the formation of ash was poor. The length of puffed ash drop of expanded tobacco slice and tobacco stem were 18.6 mm and 25.2 mm and these forced ash drop length were 3.8 mm and 4.9 mm respectively. Puffed burning rate of general cigarette was $14.3\%$ faster than static burning rate and super slim type cigarettes was $21.3\%$ faster. Combustion rate and ash drop of domestic and foreign cigarette brands were quite different depending on tar level and cigarette types. The lower tar level, the faster combustion rate and the shorter ash drop.

      • 근적외선 분광분석법을 이용한 판상엽 화학성분 평가

        Near InfraRed Spectroscopy(NIRS) is a quick and accurate analytical method to measure multiple components in tobacco manufacturing process. This study was carried out to develop calibration equation of near infrared spectroscopy for the prediction of the amount of chemical components and hot water solubles(HWS) of reconstituted tobacco leaf. Calibration samples of reconstituted tobacco leaf were collected from every lot produced during one year. The calibration equation was formulated as modified partial least square regression method (MPLS) by analyzing laboratory actual values and mathematically pre-treated spectra. The accuracy of the acquired equation was confirmed with the standard error of prediction(SEP) of chemical components in reconstituted tobacco leaf samples, indicated as coefficient of determination($R^2$) and prediction error of sample unacquainted, followed by the verification of model equation of laboratory actual values and these predicted results. As a result of monitoring, the standard error of prediction(SEP) were 0.25 % for total sugar, 0.03 % for nicotine, 0.03 % for chlorine, 0.16 % for nitrate, and 0.38 % for hot water solubles. The coefficient of determination($R^2$) were 0.98 for total sugar, 0.97 for nicotine, 0.96 for chlorine, 0.98 for nitrate and 0.92 for hot water solubles. Therefore, the NIRS calibration equation can be applicable and reliable for determination of chemical components of reconstituted tobacco leaf, and NIRS analytical method could be used as a rapid and accurate quality control method.

      • 버어리종 잎담배의 숙성기간이 색상, 화학성분 및 끽미에 미치는 영향

        This study was carried out to examinate the effect of aging period on chromatic, chemical and organoleptic characteristics, and to evaluate of optimum aging period for each grade in burley leaf tobacco. The leaf tobaccos were produced in 2000, and threshed, redried and packed in carton box under the current methods. Four grades of processed leaf(A3T, B1T, C1W and D3W) were stored during 24 months (May 10, 2001 to April 31, 2003) in warehouse of Chungju Leaf Tobacco Processing Factory. The leaf tobaccos were sampled at three month intervals for analysis of chromatic, chemical and organoleptic properties. pH values of four grades, and Yellow(b) of A3T and BIT were also significantly decreased during the aging. Filling values, tar, nicotine and CO contents of tobacco smoke, and puff number of cigarettes were not significantly changed during the aging. Positive correlation coefficients were significantly observed between irritation of the calculated attributes from contents of volatile oil components in leaf tobacco and that of the panel sensory attributes. The ratio of maximum change in irritation attribute was larger than that in taste attribute during aging. The calculated irritations of 18~24 months aging for A3T and B1T were significantly lower than zero-aging, while those of C1W and D3W were not significant among aging periods. The panel irritations of 12~15 months aging for four grades were low tendency. The results suggest that decrease of aging period for thin leaf from 21~24 to 12~15 months may be beneficial to save storage cost in burley tobacco.

      • 포갑 내에서 L-menthol의 이동과 연중 이행 효과에 관한 연구

        This study was carried out to investigate the transfer rate of I-menthol constituent into cigarette case and delivery rate to cigarette smoke. Test sample was used a light-type standard brand cigarette made in Korea. I-Menthol contents was measured according to A.O.A.C(1990) method by G.C and smoking conditions was a puff volume of 35$m\ell$ and 2.0s duration, taken once per minute to filter tipping paper plus 3mmwith 20 cigarettes. Migration rate of menthol into cigarette case had an interrelation with triacetin contents into filter and 6% triacetin level was most suitable. I-Menthol transferred to filter part from tobacco sheet by 20.2% in one month after cigarette manufacture, and the transfer was continued subsequently. Maximum menthol transfer in five months was 4.1% to foils and other packing materials and the loss outside of cigarette pack was also 3.9% below. The migration balance of menthol into cigarette pack and the delivery to cigarette smoke were the optimum condition when menthol was added at the ration of 30% in filter to 70% in the other parts into cigarette.

Four grades of processed leaf(A3O, B1O, C1L and D3L) were stored during 24 months(May 10, 2001 to April 31, 2003) in warehouse of Chungju Leaf Tobacco Processing Factory. The leaf tobaccos were sampled at three month intervals for analysis of chromatic, chemical and organoleptic properties. Yellow(b), pH values and total sugar contents of four grades were significantly decreased during the aging. Filling values, tar, nicotine and CO contents of tobacco smoke, and puff number of cigarettes were not significantly changed during the aging. Positive correlation coefficients were significantly observed between taste and irritation of the calculated attributes from contents of volatile oil components in leaf tobacco and those of the panel sensory attributes. The ratio of maximum change in taste attribute was larger than that in irritation attribute during aging. The optimum aging periods estimated by taste for A3O, B1O, C1L and D3L were 17.8, 14.9, 10.8, and 9.8 months, respectively. The thin leaf(Primings and Cutters) undergo satisfactory aging earlier as compared to bodied leaf(Leaf and Tips). The results suggest that decrease of aging period for thin leaf from 18~21 to 9~12 months may be beneficial to save storage cost in flue-cured tobacco.

      • 판상엽 배합비와 공기희석율이 제품담배 연기성분 및 연소온도 변화에 미치는 영향

        The application of RECON(Reconstituted tobacco sheet) and the ventilation technology has been considered as very useful methods for controlling the tar and nicotine deliveries in modern blended tobacco. In this study, the effects of RECON contents in simulated blends on the smoke delivery and burning temperature were evaluated in three different ventilation levels. The ventilation showed a great influence on the burning temperature and smoke deliveries. The nicotine, tar and CO deliveries was greatly reduced by the ventilation. The amount of RECON showed the minor impacts on the smoke delivery. In high ventilation level such as 85 % ventilation, there was no distinct change in smoke deliveries by the amount of RECON.
