Design of the Knee Brace Hinge Reflecting the Knee Motion in Both Passive and Active Conditions

It has been reported that the components of tibio-femoral movement follows a coupled path instead of the envelope of the motion. However, the recent kinematic studies in which video motion analysis was performed showed that the tibio-femoral movement in the active condition like walking differed from that in the passive condition. Most prophylactic knee braces in the market are designed to imitate only the femoral rollback mechanism in which tibia translates anteriorly with flexion. To overcome the limitation of the current knee brace hinges, a new knee brace hinge reflecting the knee motion in both passive and active conditions was designed in this study. The motion of the new hinge was compared with those of other braces' hinges, and its clinical advantage was also evaluated.

With the technological advances in the development of the surgical instruments, the mimimally invasive surgery(MIS) and natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery(NOTES) have gotten wider acceptance than the traditional endoscopic and laparoscopic surgeries. In the laparo-endoscopic single-site surgery(LESS™), the number of ports made on a patient's abdominal wall can be reduced, and then, it will result in the fast recovery time, less hospital stay, and even less or no scars. However, the use of flexible laparoscopic instruments is essential to perform the LESS™. In this study, a new articulable joint of the laparoscopic instrument was designed by shape memory alloy (SMA) wires, and its articulation dependent on the amplitude and duration of the current was measured. Moreover, the amount of error when a certain position was maintained was also calculated.

최근 ICT기술의 발전과 건강에 대한 사람들의 관심이 증가하면서 다양한 셀프케어기술들이 개발되고 있다. 그러나 셀프케어기술은 생체정보수집에 대한 국내 관련 법제도의 제한이 있어 셀프케어기술의 활성화가 제한되고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 ICT기반 셀프케어기술에 대한 기술동향 및 관련 법제도를 분석하여 문제점을 도출하고 셀프케어기술의 활성화를 위한 지원방안을 제안하였다.

Intra-articular Correction of the Femorotibial Joint Malalignment by Computer Assisted Surgeries

An upper tibial opening wedge osteotomy is an operation to cure a malalignment and a degenerate arthritis. To prevent the postoperative malalignment caused by the upper tibial opening wedge osteotomy, the research to define the relationship between a Hinge Axis Angle and a Posterior Slope Angle is needed. The effect of the relationship between the hinge axis angle and the gap angle on the posterior slope angle is studied. After 3-D Compute Tomography (CT) scanning image is reconstructed, the virtual surgery is performed by the reconstructed 3-D tibia model. It was proved that the relationship between the hinge axis angle and the gap angle were constant and the simple mathematical model could be derived. To verify the suggested mathematical model, it compared with the measured data from the virtual surgery. In conclusion, while the deviation between the data from the virtual surgery and ones of the mathematical model under the gap angle<10° was less than 1%.
