양공주와 혼혈아는 분단 한국이라는 아픈 역사를 증명하는 기표이자 상징으로써, 한국인이 감추고 싶어 하는 소수자/타자/경계인이다. 그러나 한국인이 이들을 대하는 입장은 이율배반적이다. 양공주가 존재함으로써 미군을 한국에 주둔시키고, 미군으로부터 정숙한 여인들을 보호한다. 혼혈아는 바라보는 한국인의 시선 역시 곱지 못하다. 단일민족 신화라는상상의 세계에서 혼혈아들은 단일민족을 부정하는 존재들이기에 항상 천대받는 천덕꾸러기였다. 한국 사진가 중에서 양공주와 혼혈아를 소재로 사진작업을 한 사진가로는 주명덕의 『섞여진 이름들』(1969), 강용석의 『동두천 기념사진』 (1984), 이재갑의 『또 하나의 한국인』(2005)를 거론할 수 있다. 주명덕의 『섞여진 이름들』(1969)에서의 혼혈아들은하나같이 그들의 눈빛에서 불안한 기색을 드러낸다. 혼혈아들은 카메라를 향해서 경계의 눈빛으로 일관하며 불안/초조한 기색을 드러낸다. 이들의 시선에는 경계인으로서, 타자로서, 소수자로서 거리감이 감지된다. 이재갑의 『또 하나의 한국인』(2005)은 혼혈인과 그 어머니의 삶을 비추면서 따뜻한 시선으로 바라보고 있다. 그들은 카메라를 전혀 의식하지 않는 태도와 눈빛을 하고 있다는 점에서 주명덕의 사진과는 전혀 다르다. 강용석의 『동두천 기념사진』(1984)은 동두천 보산동에서 기지촌을 촬영한 사진으로 양공주와 미군을 통해서 한국과 미국 간의 국가적 불균형의 힘을 보여주고 있다. 이기념사진들은 나약한 주권 국가의 초상이자 거세된 한국 남성의 이미지를 의미하고 있다. Foreigners' whore and half-blood are the signification and symbol that prove the painful history of divided Korea, which is the minority/other/boundary person that Korean people want to hide. However, the attitude that Korean people treat them is antinomic. Accordingly, they were disgusting others as well as necessary evil. Also, Korean people are critical of half-blood. Most of the half blood were born between the U.S. army and foreigners' whore, and lived economicallysocially impoverished life. In the imaginary world of homogeneous myth, the half-blood were those who denied single-race country, therefore, they were always the poor relation. Half-bloods in Ju, myeongdeok's 『Mixed name s』(1969) show their anxious eyes as one. The half-bloods consistently showed alert eyes toward the camera, revealing anxious/impatient look. Their eyes sense the distance as the boundary persons, others, and minority. Lee, jaegab's 『Another Korean』(2005) shows a warm view on the half-blood and the other. In respect that they were not conscious of the camera in their attitude and sight, which is quite different from Ju, myeongdeok's photograph.Gang, yongseok's 『Dongducheon commemorative photograph』(1984) is a photograph of the military camp town at Dongducheon Bosan-dong, which shows national imbalance between Korea and U.S. through foreigners' whore and the U.S. army. These commemorative photos signify the portrait of weak sovereign country as well as the image of emasculated Korean male.
