        As the structural unit of the hepatic tissue, Wepfer (1664) and Malpighi (1666) termed the parenchymal units attached to the intrahepatic portal venules hepatic acini by the macroscopic dissection. Kiernan (1883) associated the three-dimensional structural unit of the liver with its secretory function. Brissaud and Sabourin (1886) reported the area of the hepatic parenchymal tissue draining into a bile duct in the portal trigone as the secretory unit of the liver. Mall (1906) proposed that the columnar structure around the portal field was the portal unit; he was supported by Arey (1932) and Opie (1944). Rappaport et al. (1954) defined the small irregular morular parenchymal tissue mass attached to the portal terminal venules accompanying with the intrahepatic arteries and bile duct in the livers of dogs and house rabbits as the structural and functional unit, of the liver, and called it the simple liver acinus. Rappaport (1958) termed the hepatic parenchymal tissue consisting of the simple liver acini around the preterminal portal vessel in man the complex acinus and the larger parenchymal tissue of the- simple liver and complex acini formed around the portal stem the acinar agglomerate. Recently the studies of the liver concerning the function of it in the histological and histochemical fields were carried out by many authors. Padykula (1953) reported that the patterns of distribution of hepatic mitochondria, Golgi apparatus and glycogen in various mammals, and the secretion of bile were associated with enzyme activity of hepatic succinic dehydrogenase in the histochemical way. Additionally he described the fact that his result was similar with them presented by Deane (1944), and Seligman and Rutenberg (1951). The technique, as presented by Wachstein and Meisel (1957), outlines bile canaliculi sharply and completely with the histochemical way of adenosine triphosphatase (ATP-ase) and diphosphatase (ADP-ase), as well as bile ducts, endothelium, and fibrous tissue, and can thus be effectively used as special stain for canaliculi, as well as an indicator of liver cell function. Smith and Coote (1863) studied the impairment of succinic dehydrogenase and other enzymes in the rat's liver given carbon tetrachloride in their histochemical study. Schumacher (1957) studied the action of respiratory enzymes; succinic dehydrogenase, cytochrome oxidase, triphosphopyridine nucleotide diaphorase and diphosphopyridine diaphorase in the livers of the horse, pig and cattle, and observed that the distribution was identical with the earlier reports on the former enzymes, but that it was in direct contrast to the former 2 enzymes in that the latter 2 enzymes were generally distributed to the pericentral area around the central vein. The author has attempted this experiment in order to study the hepatic structural and function unit of the mouse by observing the histological and histochemical or functional characters of the hepatic cells in different parts of hepatic lobule in the points; the distribution of mitochondria (2) the enzyme activity of succinic dehydrogenase (3) the enzyme activities of adenosine triphosphatase and diphosphatase, (4) the enzyme activities of diphosphopyridine nucleotide (NADH,) diaphorase and triphosphopyridine nucleotide (NADPH,) diaphorase, to accomplish the transfer of hydrogen from the reduced coenzymes to the cytochrome system and to other metabolic processes, and (5) the enzyme change of succinic dehydrogenase and histochemical change of hepatic glycogen of the mouse given carbon tetrachloride.

        탁리익기탕(托裏益氣湯)이 항암(抗癌) 및 면역기능(免疫機能)에 미치는 작용(作用) 연구(硏究)

        Objective : This Study was to investigate effects of Takliikgi-tang on the anti-cancer and proliferation of immunocytes, nitric oxide (NO) production of peritoneal macrophages. Methods : We used Takliikgi-tang extract (TLT) with freeze-dried, 8weeks-old male mice and cancer cell lines (L1210, Sarcoma-180) for this Study. The cytotoxicity and proliferation of cells were tested using a colorimetric tetrazoliun assay (MTT assay). Results : 1. TLT was significantly showed cytotoxicity on the L1210, 5-180 cell lines. 2. TLT was significantly increased proliferation of thymocytes in vitro. 3. TLT was significantly increased proliferation of thymocytes and splenocytes in normal mice. 4. TLT was significantly increased NO production from peritoneal macrophages in normal mice. 5. TLT was significantly decreased proliferation of L1210 cells in L1210 cells transplanted mice. 6. TLT was significantly increased proliferation of thymocytes and splenocytes by all-dosage in L1210 cells transplanted mice. 7. TLT was significantly increased NO production from peritoneal macrophages in L1210 cells transplanted mice. Conclusions : The present author thought that TLT had action of anti-cancer by becoming immunocytes activity (NO production, proliferation of thymocytes).

        면역세포(免疫細胞) 및 종양세포(腫瘍細胞)에 미치는 가미십기산(加味十奇散)의 효과(效果)

        Objective : Gamisibgi-San was a drug that treated carbuncle and cellulitis. So, the purpose of this Study was to investigate effects of Gamisibgi-San on the anti-cancer and proliferation of immunocytes. Materials and Method : We used Gamisibgi-San extract(GMSGS) with freeze-dried, 8wks-old male mice and cancer cell lines(L1210, S-180) for this Study. The cytotoxicity and proliferation of cells wat tested using a colorimetric tetrazoliun assay(MIT assay). Results and Conclusion : The results of this Study were obtained as follow ; 1. GMSGS was significantly showed cytotoxicity on the L1210 cell lines and S-180 cell lines. 2. GMSGS was significantly increased in the proliferation of thymocytes and splenocytes in vitro. 3. GMSGS was significantly decreased in the proliferation of L1210 cells in L1210 cells transplanted mice. 4. GMSGS was significantly decreased in the Weight of Sarcoma in S-180 cells transplanted mice. 5. GMSGS was significantly increased in the Period of Survive in S-180 cells transplanted mice. The present author thought that GMSGS had action of anti-cancer by becoming immunocytes activity(proliferation of thymocytes and splenocytes).

        탁리화중탕(托裏和中湯)이 암세포(癌細胞) 및 면역세포(免疫細胞)에 미치는 실험적(實驗的) 효과(效果)

        Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of Taklihwajung-Tang on the proliferation of cancer cells land immunocytes focusing around combined effects of anticarcinogen. Materials and Method : We used Taklihwajung-Tang extract(THT) with freeze-dried, 8wks-old male balb/c mice and cancer cell lines(L1210, S-180) for this study. The proliferation of cells was tested using a colorimetric tetrazoliun assay(MIT assay). Results and Conclusion : The results of this study were obtained as follow ; 1. THT was significantly showed cytotoxicity on the L1210 cell lines and S-180 cell lines. 2. THT was significantly increased in the proliferation of thymocytes and splenocytes in vitro. 3. In combined effects of THT and vincristine(0.005mg/kg), THT was significantly inhibited proliferation of S-180 cell lines compared with positive control group. 4. In combined effects of THT and vincristine(0.005mg/kg), THT was significantly decreased in the weight of sarcoma compared with positive control group. 5. In combined effects of THT and vincristine, THT was significantly inhibited the hematological side reaction compared with positive control group. The present author thought that THT had action of anti-cancer and immune-activity, and in combined effects of vincristine, THT had recoverable effects on damage by anticarcinogen.

        여자 골프선수들의 수면양상조사

        목 적 : 수면은 전문운동선수들에게 매우 중요한 많은 생리적 인지능력에 영향을 미친다. 운동선수에서의 수면부족은 운동능력에 심각한 영향을 주지만, 운동선수들의 수면에 관한 연구는 적은 편이다. 저자들은 수면관련 설문지를 이용하여 한국의 여자골프선수들의 수면양상을 알아보고자 하였다. 방 법 : 98명의 대학생 여자 골프선수와 나이와 성별이 일치하는 46명의 일반 여자대학생이 본 연구에 참여하였다. 연구대상자들은 수면관련 자가설문지를 작성하였다. 설문지에는 평소 수면습관(잠드는 시간, 수면잠복시간, 아침에 기상시간, 낮잠시간)과 운동시간, 엡워스주간졸음척도, 불면증심각도지수, 피츠버그수면질지수, 한국판 지각된 스트레스 척도와 Beck 불안척도 등이 포함되었다. 결 과 : 운동선수들은 일반 대학생에 비해 잠드는 시간이 빨랐으며(PM 23 : $05{\pm}00$ : 52 vs. 00 : $14{\pm}00$ : 51, ; t = 5.287, p < 0.001), 아침 기상시간이 더 늦었으며(AM 07 : $21{\pm}01$ : 09 vs. 6 : $35{\pm}00$ : 32 ; t = -2.715, p = 0.008), 주중의 총 수면시간이 통계적으로 유의하게 더 길었다($417.77{\pm}78.18$ minute vs. $351.52{\pm}77.83$ minute ; t = 4.406, p < 0.001). 또한 낮잠시간도 운동선수에서 더 길었다($77.73{\pm}41.28$ minute vs. $20.22{\pm}33.03$ minute ; t = 7.623, p < 0.001). 피츠버그수면질지수 점수는 운동선수에서 더 낮았으나, 수면잠복시간, 엡워스주간졸음척도, 불면증심각도지수, 지각된 스트레스 척도와 Beck 불안척도는 양군 사이에 차이가 없었다. 결 론 : 우리나라 대학생 여자 골프선수들이 좋은 수면양상을 가지며, 일반 여자 대학생과 비슷한 스트레스와 불안 정도를 보였다. Introduction: Sleep has numerous important physiological and cognitive functions that may be particularly important to elite athletes. Sleep deprivation can have significant effects on athletic performance. However, there are few published data related to the amount of sleep obtained by elite athletes. We investigated sleep patterns of Korean women golfers using sleep-related questionnaires. Methods: For this study, 98 Korean university women golfers and 46 age- and sex-matched controls were recruited. All subjects were asked to complete the self-administered sleep questionnaire consisting of questions about habitual sleep patterns (sleep onset time, sleep latency, awakening time in the morning, day time napping time), exercise habits, Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Insomnia Severity Index (ISS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), validation of the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Results: The sleep onset time was significantly earlier (pm 23 : $05{\pm}00$ : 52 and 00 : $14{\pm}00$ : 51 ; t = 5.287, p < 0.001), the waking time was later (am 07 : $21{\pm}01$ : 09 and 6 : $35{\pm}00$ : 32; t = -2.715, p = 0.008), the weekday total sleep time was greater ($417.77{\pm}78.18$ minute and $351.52{\pm}77.83$ minute ; t = 4.406, p = 0.001), and the daytime nap time was greater ($77.73{\pm}41.28$ minute and $20.22{\pm}33.03$ minute ; t = 7.623, p < 0.001) in the golf athletes compared to the controls. The PSQI scores were significantly lower, but estimated sleep latency and ESS, ISS, PSS, and BAI scores were not different among the two groups. Conclusion: This study suggests that Korean university women golfers have good sleep patterns resulting in no difference in sleep-related stress compared to age- and sex-matched control students.

      • GG-09 : Rare intraendometrial leiomyoma of uterus simulating submucosal type of leiomyoma with cystic degeneration accompanied by large Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor

        Rare case of intraendometrial uterine leiomyoma accompanied by large Sertoli-Lydig cell tumor arising from right ovary in a perimenopausal woman is presented. An intraendometrial uterine leiomyoma is extremely rare condition, which is completely different from a relatively common submucosal type of leiomyoma. The large Sertoli-Lydig cell tumor of right ovary did not cause any hormonal imbalance therefore the tumor was diagnosed somewhat late only after the tumor is growing to over 10 cm in diameter. A 50-year-old gravida 7 para 2 woman was referred with the complaint of palpable mass of her lower abdomen. In addition, she complained of heavy menstrual bleeding resulting in anemia. We could not find any virilization signs such as acne, hirsuitism, or voice deeping on her physical examination. Her medical and family history was unremarkable. She had history of two cesarean sections and pelviscopic tubal reversal surgery for tubal obstruction and followed by pelviscopic right salpingectomy due to ectopic pregnancy. She had no family history of no history of menstrual irregularity including oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea reported often preceded by the virilization. Examination of her external genitalia was exactly normal without clitoromegaly. Pelvic examination revealed a hard enlarged uterus and about man`s fist sized movable pelvic mass which was palpated on the right lower abdomen. The ultrasonographic examination showed a solid hypoechoic mass of 13x12 cm on the right pelvic area with cystic lesion and some blood flow (Figure, 1A). The uterus was enlarged to gestational 3 month size with mixed echogenicity compatible to the finding of adenomyosis. About 2x2 cm hypoechoic solid mass with internal cystic lesion was noted in near endometirum. (Figure, 1B). Left ovary was normal however we could not find out right ovary. Abdomino-pelvic computed tomography (CT) revealed a hypodense right pelvic mass without enhancement and the possible diagnosis were intraligamentary type of leiomyoma or sex cord tumor of right ovary. Enlarged uterus with isodense mass protruding into uterine cavity with internal cystic lesion was noted. Left ovary was normal. (Figure, 1C). Laboratory data including CA-125, testosterone, estrogen, and thyroid stimulating hormone were within normal limit, with the exception of decreased hemoglobin level (6.5g/dL). Based on these findings, a provisional diagnosis of fibroma of right ovary or intraligamentary leiomyoma accompanied by uterine adenomyosis with submucosal type of leiomyoma showing cystic degeneration were made. Laparoscopy performed and revealed that solid, yellow-tan colored, smooth-surface mass with intact capsule abundant of blood vessels. (Figure, 2A) Small biopsy from the right ovarian mass was taken and sent to pathology lab for frozen diagnosis. Analysis of frozen sections revealed benign ovarian tumor therefore right oophorectomy with laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy were performed. The right ovarian tumor was removed from abdominal cavity after chopping with morcellator. There was no remnant of tumor after removal. The patient had an uneventful postoperative course and was discharged on the third day. The final pathologic diagnosis was poorly differentiated Sertoli-Lydig cell tumor of right ovary with adenomyosis and intraendometrial leiomyoma. The second laparoscopy was performed for the removal of gallbladder with multiple gallbladder stones identified on preoperative abdomino-pelvic CT scan and left salpingo-oophorectomy was performed at the same time. The abdominal cavity was explored systematically but there were no deposits anywhere else in the cavity. Peritoneal washings were sent for cytologic examination for malignant cells and there was no evidence of presence of malignant cells. The left salpinx and ovary were normal in gross appearance and in final pathologic diagnosis.
