        An epidemiological study on the industrial casualties was conducted by the author from 1 Aug. to 20 Oct. 1966, to 402 casualties among 1,896 miners attending in 5 mines in Kang Won Province, Korea. The period of the casualty occurrence was from 1 Sep. 1965 to 31 Aug. 1966. This survey was made on the following items; that is distribution by age, educational career, previous occupation, number of family to be supported, duration attending the work, grade of the casualty, causes of the accident, relation of the occurrence and time, duration of treatment, compensation of casualty, sleeping and drinking, and the following results were obtained. 1) In age distribution of the casualties, most prevalent age group was 30-34 years of age with 27.8% and average age of whole casualties was 33.72 years(standard deviation : 7.71). In the rate of calamitous miners to non-calamitous miners, the highest was shown in the group of 55-59 years of age with 66.66% and the next was 15-19 years group with 30.77%. Most low rate was shown in the group of 30-34 years with 18.06% 2) In educational career of the casualties, primary school level was 47.26%, middle school level 17.16%, high school level 12.69%, college level 0.25%, and illiteracy was 10.70%. 3) In the distritution of previous occupation, farmer ranked highest with 38.31% and the next was jobless with 16.4%. 4) Regarding the number of family to be supported, the highest rate was shown in the group of 4-5 persons per family with 40.79% of the total. The next was 6-9 persons with 25.3%. The average number of family to be supported was 4.90 with standard deviation of 2.28. 5) Regarding attending years of the works, 3-5 years occupied the highest rate with 21.39%. The next was one month with 18.16%. The average lenth of working period was 30.54% months. 6) The grade of casualty : (1) Regarding the region of accidented casualty in the body. lower extremities occupied the highest rate with 33.3%. The next was upper extremities with 30.79%. Regarding the eyes, the rate of casualty in eyes occured more in left eye with 0.70% than in right eye, Regarding the head, the rate of casualty occured in frontal area more than in the back of the head, and in the chest the rate occured in anterior part 2.27% more than in posterior part. (2) In regional distribution of the accidental casualty in the body, lower extremities ranked highest with 35.82% and next extremities with 33.08%. (3) In the grade of casualty wounds, slight wound occurd highest rate with 38.56% and next serious wound with 32.59%. Death was occured in 1.99% of the total casualties. (4) Regarding on the kinds of injuries, contuse wound occupied highest rate with 30.55% and next laceration with 22.45%. The fracture was occured in 20.60% of the total casualties. 7) Regarding on the causes of accidents, inevitable or accidental cause occupied highest rate with 35.3% and next insufficiency of technical training with 12.78%. Fatigue occupied 9.33% of the causes, poor illumination 8.92% and speedy work 7.30%. 8) Regarding the times of the casualty occurences, followings were observed. (1) In hours of day, highest rate was seen at 9-12 o'clock with 29.6% and next at 13-16 o'clock with 27.86%. Most low rate was seen at 1-4 o'clock with 4.98%. (2) In the days of week, highest rate was seen on Thursday with 19.4% and next on Tuesday with 16.92%. Most low rate was seen on Sunday with 11.19% (3) In the month of year, July occupied highest rate with 12.44%, and next August with 10.45%. Most low rate was seen in November with 5.47%. (4) In the seasonal variation, summer occupied highest rate with 34.58%. Autumn occupied most low rate with 19.48%. 9) Regarding the duration of treatment, the highest rate showed in the group of 16-30 days with 39.34% and next group of 1-15 days with 27.41%. The average duration of treatment was 45.27 days. 10) Regarding the sleeping hours per day, 6 hours occupied the highest rate with 38.58% and next 5 hours with 22.59%. The average sleeping hours per day were 5 hours and 40 minutes with standard deviation of 1.04 hours. Regarding the drinking frequency per month, the rate of below 10 times occupied highest rate with 34.77% and next was 30 times with 17.52% and the rate of 60 times 1.02%. The average frequency of drinking per month was 16.83 times.

The average sleeping hours per day were 5 hours and 40 minutes with standard deviation of 1.04 84 (/&4)hours. Regarding the drinking frequency per month, the rate of below 10 times occupied highest rate with 34.77% and next was 30 times with 17.52% and the rate of 60 times 1.02%, The average frequency of drinking per month was 16.83 times.
