Laser is a system far away thermal equilibrium. But it has been suggested that the statistical properties of the laser light at threshold have close analogy to the thermodynamic phase transition of equilibrium system. We study the nonequilibrium phase transition of laser light by utilizing the analogy. The Ginzburg-Landau model for the second-order phase transition in ferromagnetic system is introduced and solved by Gaussian approximtion. The order parameter for the laser light is the amplitude of the electric field and the atomic population inversion is a quantity corresponding to the thermodynamic temperature. The quantities associated with the critical indices are discussed together with the fluctuations in the threshold region. The laser light above threshold show a high degree of coherence. The cooperative effects and self-organization producing such a coherent state are discussed in terms of statistical entropy. The description using the entropy is carried out by applying the results of the stochastic theory used for the nonlinear chemical reaction.

The mathematical theory of competitive running by Keller, which is based on the Newton's second law of motion, is applied to analyze the track records of the Asian and Korean athlets. In addition, the empirical formular proposed by Toots is used to represent the aver age speed of the runners for various races. The main conclusions arrived at are as follows. 1. According to the Keller theory, running at a constant speed is an optimum strategy throughout the races except the initial two seconds and the final 3 seconds, approximately, for distances greater than certain critical distances. But it is effective to run at a full speed with maximum propulsion, for the short distance sprints. 2. The critical distances obtained from the records are 291m for the World records, and 298 (320m for women) and 303m (330m for women) for Asian and Korean records, respectively. Thus the 400m race may be considered the reference item for the mid-range race. 3. Korean athletes show rather inferior physiological characteristics for the most cases analyzed, with the only exception for the oxygen supply rate of male athelets, which is somewhat greater than that of the Asian records. This may indicate a passilility of future development of superior mid and long distance runner from Korean athletes.
Concepts and Measurements of Educational Alienation in Lifelong Education

The purpose of this study is to investigate various statistical data that has been gathered in relation to education as basic research data for development of educational alienation measurement tool and to find out what indicators can be used to measure the educational alienation. To do this, the researchers analyzed the statistical yearbook of education, the statistical yearbook of employment of higher education graduates, OECD education index, and human resource development index of Korea. Based on the value of each statistical index, and whether or not the organization is alienated from education, it was found out that measuring the average number of years of education, the expected education level, the population composition by education level, the degree of unmet status, and the degree of underachievement in terms of competence are the indicators that can be used to measure educational alienation. However, as the lifelong learning society comes, it is necessary to measure not only absolute and objective education alienation but also relative and subjective concept of educational alienation. Therefore, it is necessary to utilize the educational alienation measurement tool as a composite measure rather than a single indicator.
