In order to analyze the fish distribution of the Geum river and its tributary, the common species, rare species, species richness, and species diversity were studied from May 1980 to May 1982. 1. 52 species in 9 families were collected in the main stream, whereas 32 secies and 8 families in the tributary. Zacco platypus showed the highest value in relative abundance at both the main stream(16.5%) and the tributary (33.8%). The log- normal line of relative abundance in the main stream and the tribuary were all belong to C class. 2. Zacco platypus, Hemibarbus longirostris, Pseudobagrus emarginatus, P sedogobio escinus, Opsarichthys bidens, Paracheilognatus rhombea, Coreleuciscus Splendids and Microphysogobio yaluensis were common species in the main stream. Zacco platypus and Cobitis koreensis were common species in the tributary. 3. In the upper and the middle river, the species diversity, species richness of the main stream were higher than that of the tributary. In the lower river, the species diversity, species richness of the main stream were lower than that of the tributary. 4. It was found that the species diversity was not significantly related the dominance index in the main stream. But the dominance was inversely related to diversity in the tributary. The species diversity was rather high in the main stream, but there was not any apparent dominance species. The species diversity of the tributary was rather low. But it was apparent that there were several dominant species in the the tributary.

The attempt to investigate the relationship between the soil texture of habitat and fresh-water clam was conducted from March to November 1980 in eight stations of Geum River. 1. Unio douglusial, Inversidens reiniana and corbicula Huminea were mainly distributed in the mid-down stream and Anodonta woodiano fukudai, Lanceolaria acrorhyncha and Lamprotula gottschei in the upstream, but Solenaia triangulanis was overall found in abundance. 2. The soil types of fresh-water clam nabitat were divided into three types by analyzing the soil texture; sand (st 1,2,7,8), loamy sand(st 3,4) and sandy loam(st 5,6). 3. The correlation analysis of soil texture and fresh-water clams was significant in Anodonta woodiana fukudai, Inversidens reiniana and corbicula fluminea, but 4 species were not.

The investigation of young clam beds of Meretrix lusoria and Mactra veneriformis was conducted from July to August 1969, 1974 and 1975 in tidal flat area of Inchon. 1. The result of the analyses of the soil texture of young beds of Meretrix lusoria and Mactra veneriformis was as follows. Meretrix Zusoria: 1%∼2%, silt 30%∼40%, fine sand 60%∼70%, coarse sand 1.5%∼4%. Mactra veneriformis: clay 0.5%∼3%., siit 15%∼70 %, fine sand 50%∼90%, coarse sand 0.1%∼2%. 2. The habitat of young clams of Mactra veneriformis was larger than Meretrix lusoria in the area. The young clams of Meretrix lusoria set in the Lehm soil, and Mactra veneriformis the Lehm and Schuffiger soil contained a lot of sand. 3. The habitat density of young clams of Meretrix lusoria was lower than of Mactra veneriformis. This fact had statistical significance (p<0.05).

This study was performed to investigate the heavy metals contents in water, sediment and muscle and skeleten of fish in the Mankyunggang areas. The samples wers collected at 4 sites of the Mankyunggang during the period of May to October in 1993. The concentrations of the heavy metals were analyzed by the atomic absorption spectrophotometer : The results are as follows. 1. The average concentrations of the heavy metals in water was detected Cadmium 0.0171±0.0021㎍/g, Copper 0.0503±0.005㎍/g, Mercury 0.0422±0.0030㎍/g, Zinc 0.1008±0.0024㎍/g, and the concenfration of Zinc among the heavy metals was the highest. In the heavy metals concentrations, the sites sampled showed a higher tendency in lowerstreams than in up-streams. 2. The average concentrations of the heavy metals in sediment were Cadmium 0.0061±0.0006㎍/g, Copper 0.0328±0.0016㎍/g, Mercury 0.0022±0.0002㎍/g, Zinc 0.1479±0.0102㎍/g, and the concentration of Zinc was the highest value. In the heavy metals concentrations, the sites sampled showed a higher tendency in lowerstreams than in up-streams. 3. The average concentrations of Cadimium, Copper, Mercury, Zinc in muscle and skeleton of fish at Mankyunggang were Cadmium 0.0233±0.0012㎍/g, 0.1289±0.0019㎍/g, Copper 0.0962±0.0027㎍/g, 0.1401±0.0034㎍/g, Mercury 0.0600±0.0090㎍/g, 0.3787±0.0031㎍/g, Zinc 1.6002±0.027㎍/g, 3.5372±0.1366㎍/g. 4. The concentrations of Cadmium, Copper, Mercury and Zinc in muscle and skeleton of fish were higher in skeleton than in muscle, and significant difference in the part of each species except Mercury(p<0.01). The average concentrations of the heavy metals in fish showed higher in lowersteams than in up-streams.

The microdistribution pattern of fresh-water fishes in the Mi stream was studied from May 8 to July 18 in 1977. 1. Total 32 species were identified, including 9 species known to live at survey area. 2. The common species were Zacco temmincki, Coreoper ca herzi, Puntungia herzi, Acheilognathus signifer, Gnathopogon majinae at station 1. Gnathopogon majimae, Zacco tennincki, Z. platypus at station 2, Pungtungia herzi, Acheilognathus signifer, Coreoperca herzi, Zacco temmincki at station 3, Coreoperca herzi, Zacco temmincki, Z.platypus at stations4. 3. Acheilognathus signifer, Carassius auratus, Cobitis rotundicaudata, C. taenia were recognized to inhabit mainly in the pool. Zacco platypus, Z.temmincki, Coreoleuciscus spendidus, Mmogurnda obscura and Liobagrus mediadiposalis were recongnized to in habit mainly in the rapid. 4. The species diversity of the studied stations were comparatively high (Mean = 2.9285), and the equitability was high, too(Mean = 0.6970). The species diversity of the pool and rapid did not show the significant difference(P>0.05), and the eauitability of them did not eithed(P>0.05).

The seasonal differences of species diversity and dominant species of fresh-water fish community in the upper stream of Geum River were determined. The similarity of the community were also determined. Seven families, thirty-four species could be identified among 2823 individuals collected from 1979 and 1982. The largest number(422) of individuals was collected on April. The largest number(26) of species was identified on June. Pungtungia herzi, Zacco platypus, Gobiobotia bravibarba, Pseudobagrus Sp., Coreoleuciscus splendidus, Pseudobagrus emarginatus, Coreoperca herzi, and Odontobutis obscurus were the dominant species in Spring. In summer, C. herzi and C.splendidus were identified as dominant species. Acheilognathus signifer,P.emarginatus, and C.herzi were the dominant species in Autumn. During the winter, A.signifer, P.herzi, Zacco temmincki and Odontobutis obscurus were identified as dominant species. The species diversities of spring and summer were found to be higher than those of autumn and winter. The fish community of spring was very similar to that of summer.
