The authors investigated the oxygen consumption rate of Ascaris eggs in fecal medium which was mixed with sodium nitrite. Eggs were Obtained from the upper part of uterus of Ascaris and removed the albuminoid membrane by treating them with antiformin solution. Oxygen consumption rate was measured by Warburg's manometer. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Oxygen uptake of Ascaris eggs which were treated with 0.1% NaNO₂ solution for 72 hours was not influenced by pH in the range of 4.0-7.0. 2. In an acidified medium (pH 4.0, feces: urine =1 : 4) which was mixed with sodium nitrite at the concentration of 0.1 %, the amount of oxygen consumption was 54-100×10 ^(-8) ㎕/hr/egg, though in control showed almost 10 times of it. 3. The amount of oxygen consumption of normal Ascaris eggs increased to five times during three weeks, but the treated eggs by NaNO₂ showed no increase and 92-100% of them were finally destroyed. 4. In an acid medium the NO₂ gas from sodium nitrite inhibited the oxygen consumption of Ascaris eggs and finally caused the destruction of the eggs.

N/A The 8㎜ dia: Sn-38%Pb eutectic alloy rods were produced by use of the horizontal continuous casting process with the heated mold and chill cast process. The cast rods were rolled into 2.0∼0.5㎜ thick plates and structural and mechanical properties were examined. The results revealed that the plates produced by the continuous casting process with the heated mold show much higher superplasticity at ambient temperature (1550% elongation at 0.5㎜ thick plate and 0.5㎜/min strain rate) than the plates procured by chill cast process (630% elongation). Such a high superplasticity of the continuous cast plates is due to the high-quality plates free from any inside and surface defects with fine and uniform distribution of eutectic phases.

An enzyme β-galactosidase or β-galactohydrolase [EC3.2.1.23], commonly called lactase, mediates galacto-oligosaccha-de (GOS) synthesis under conditions of high substrate concentrations. Also, lactase hydrolyzes β(1→4) lactose into glucose nd galactose, the latter is successively transferred to free lactose to make various oligosaccharides via transgalactosylation. OS is non-digestible to human digestive enzymes and has been used as a functional prebiotics. Among the 24 lactic acid acteria (LAB) strains used, Lactobacillus paracasei YSM0308 was selected based on its exhibition of the highest β-galac-oside hydrolysis activity, and the crude lactase was prepared for examination of reaction conditions to affect the GOS syn-hesis. Lactase activity was measured with a spectrophotometer using ONPG (o-nitropheyl β-D-galactopyranoside) method. actase activity was not detected in the culture supernatant and was mostly present in the cell pellet after centrifugation. ctivity of the crude lactase preparation ranges from102 to 1,053 units/mL, with the highest activity determined for L. para-asei YSM0308. Optimal conditions for GOS synthesis are as follows: concentration of whey powder, pH, temperature, and me were 30%, pH 6.5-7.0, 30o C, and 4 h, respectively. The final GOS concentration was 19.41% (w/v) by the crude SM0308 lactase, which was obtained from strain YSM0308 grown in the 10% (w/v) reconstituted whey-based medium.

The proportion of maintenance work has been increasing due to the recent aging of the infrastructure, but the standardized construction cost estimation standards are insufficient for this. In particular, reinforced concrete structures are being applied to many structures such as buildings and bridges, and various construction methods for maintenance of reinforced concrete structures are being developed and applied. In this study, we surveyed about the current status of the construction method for the maintenance work of reinforced concrete structures and analyze the factors of the revision of the construction cost estimate standard for the reinforced concrete structure maintenance.

Steel construction is one of the commonly used methods in building construction due to its efficiency in terms of time and cost. In particular, the top-down method using steel frames is widely used in the construction of underground structures in urban areas to shorten the construction period. However, there is currently no standardized cost estimation for subway steel frame construction in Korea, causing difficulties in determining the expected cost. In this study, we aim to provide basic data for establishing a cost estimation standard for subway steel frame construction through on-site surveys of subway steel frame construction commonly used in urban areas.
