Testing evaluation is a part of process for design, production, evaluation, operation and abolition, and is the process of certifying system performance. The main purpose of testing evaluation is to reduce the risk factor under the determining process. Testing process has the three step such as design qualification, integration and validation test in factory, system integration and commissioning test. Design qualification is to verify errors on the design process. Integration and validation test in factory is for the H/W and S/W of an equipment and is to verify interface of subsystem, communication protocol and main functions. System integration and commissioning test is a functional test to adjust successful installation of equipment. According to the testing process, briefly consideration for test item, test method and test contents about signalling system is carried out.

In this paper, the safety criteria and framework of railway software which is developing presently is examined. The software development capability and organization of railway company in korea are investigated through interview and are analyzed. Then the application plan for railway software safety criteria is deduced to apply criteria to railway industry effectively.

Softwares in railway system are being used in the area of railway control system, directly associated to safety. Because the instinct characteristic of Software is uncertainty, Software development without safety insurance is very hazardous situation. In order to derive safety certification process in the railway system, certification and approval processes in the nuclear, aviation, and military area are studied. Software quality should be improved by two aspects : one is product aspect, another is process aspect. GS(Good Software) and ES(Excellent Software) certification can be exemplified in a product aspect approach. In those process certification, CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) or SPICE (Software Process Improvement and Capability dEtermination ISO/IEC15504) is being used as models for assessing process maturity of organization. Following the studies, safety management procedure in the railway system is suggested.

The safety step has been developed to ensure the passengers’ safety including the disabled and the weak by eliminating gap between vehicle and platform. The type of safety step is divided according to the position that the safety step is installed. The type of safety step attached platform is the rubber type that is previously attached to a platform. The installed rubber can reduces the gap between vehicle and platform by a fixed distance. If the safety step is installed on the vehicle, it is possible to respond to the various platform typed such as straight or curved form. It is also flexible to the height of riding depends on number of passenger and platform conditions and does not require crew's additional operation. We have been developed vehicle attached safety step for advanced electric multiple unit. We hope to increase the use of safety step for the disabled and the weak to expand the convenience use of railway transportation system.

Safety critical systems are those in which a failure can have serious and irreversible consequences. Nowadays digital technology has been rapidly applied to critical system such as railways, airplanes, nuclear power plants, vehicles. The main difference between analog system and digital system is that the software is the key component of the digital system. The digital system performs more varying and highly complex functions efficiently compared to the existing analog system because software can be flexibly designed and implemented. The flexible design make it difficult to predict the software failures. This paper reviews safety standard and criteria for safety critical system such as railway system and introduces the framework for the software lifecycle. The licensing procedure for the railway software is also reviewed.
