Individual identification of severely decomposed or skeletonized bodies is an important part in medicolegal field. 142 bodies were torn up and carried away by flood in a park cemetry, Kwang-Ju, Kyunggi province, Korea at Sept., 10, 1990. The authors examed the 56 bodies, which were gained, through medical, anthropological, odontological, radiological methods, and superimposition for individual identification. Among them, 41 cases were successfully identified, and remaining 15 cases were not identified because of sever destruction and no adequate information.

This paper described a collaborative exercise intended to see what kinds of short tandem repeat (STR) loci are used in different DNA typing laboratories in Korea and to compare their results for the demonstration whether uniformity of DNA profiling results from different laboratory could be achieved in Korea Laboratories were asked to test five tissue DNAs using methods routinely used in each laboratory and to report the results to the coordinating laboratory. The exercise demonstrated that each laboratory was using different STR loci for the typing with different STR numbers,2 VNTRS,36 STRs and amelogenin in total, and the direct comparison of the results from all the laboratory for the 18 loci could not be done as only one laboratory submitted typing results. Among 21 loci for which several laboratories submitted typing results, results for 14 loci were the same and results for the other 7 loci were different depending on the participating laboratory. D1S80, F13A01, D16S539, D21S11, D18S51, D3S1744 were the loci with different typing results. Even in the cases where commercial kits were used, the results were not the same depending on the machines used, that is the capillary electrophoresis or the gel based electrophoresis. The reason for the different results, points about the standardization of the methods arid the profiling data were described.

Objective : Bone homeostasis is maintained by balance of bone formation and resorption. Therefore, bone related diseases arose by disturbance of this balance between osteoblast and osteoclast activities. To develop a successful screening system of the therapeutic components based on oriental medicine is essential to set out systematic approach for that purpose. Methods : This study was perforated Sprague-Dawley rat femur for bony defects(φ 5㎜) by the fissure bur. And experimetal group were treated with Cervi Pantotricuhum Cornu injection at both She`nshu~(BL23) & Da`zhu`(BL11)(0.2㎖). This was evaluated by radiography and histological analysis with in situ hybridization. Results : Cervi Pantotricuhum Cornu Herbal Acupuncture has weak effect on bony defect healing and this was evaluated by X-ray taking and histological analysis with in situ hybridization. Osteocalcin gene expression was not changed by Cervi Pantotricuhum Cornu Herbal Acupuncture in bony defects animal model. Conclusion : Taken together this study show that the Cervi Pantotricuhum Cornu herbal-acupuncture has a weak effect healing of bony defects, this type of approach might give a good chance to explore the favorable effects of Cervi Pantotricuhum Cornu herbal-acupuncture on bone tissue.
토끼 간조직의 Stimulatory Guanine Nucleotide 결합 단백의 αsubunit 에 대한 cDNA 염기서열에 관한 연구

G proteins, a family of guanine nucleotide-binding protein superfamily, are involved in transmembrane signaling systems as transducers. In this study cDNAs encoding αsubunit of the stimulatory G protein (G α ) from rabbit liver were cloned and their nucleotide sequences were determined : a λgt 11 cDNA library from total cellular poly (A)' mRNA in rabbit liber was screened for recombinant λDNA that codes for G α with labeled probe. The probe used was an EcoRI digested 3' end fragment of cDNA for G α from olfactory neuroepithelium of rat. Six of the approximately recombinant clones were screened by in situ hybridization and by autoradiography, detecting sixteen positive clones. These clones were tested using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique and thirteen of them were turned out to have two sets of conserved sequence in αcDNA. Four clonse among them were selected form analysis of their cDNA sequences, showing the presence of two types of cDNA, namely and with the total length of nucleotide sequence of1.392bp and 1.613bp, respectively . From nucleotide sequence analysis the amino acid residues of -1 and α-2 were deduced : they contain 335 and 386 amino acid residues (including the initiator methionine), respectively. The calculated molecular weights for and were 38.9kd and 44.6kd, respectively. The significant difference in size between two cDNAs for G αseemed to be due to the assumption that alternative promoter and leading exon might be involved in transcribing the mRNA for . Two types of cDNA from rabbit liver shared over 95% of amino acid homology with that from rat olfactory neuroepichelium if deleted portions are not counted. More information on the cDNAs could be obtained through further studies such as Sl nuclease protection experiment, expression and mutation study.
0.45% 炭素鋼에서 析出된 시멘타이트 粒子의 Growth Kinetics에 관한 硏究

This study has been carried out to invastigate into the Ostwald Ripering behavior of cementite particles precipitated in 0.45% carbon steel during spheroidizing treatment at a temperature range of from 650℃ to 710℃ after standarding the initial particle size distribution. The results obtained from the experiment are as follows. 1) Average particle size measurements have shown that the slopes of three straight lines obtained from the relation between the log of average particle radius and the log of spheroidizing time for three different temperatures 650℃, 680℃, and 710℃ approaches a value of 1/3 and that the growth of cementite particles occurs by diffusion controlling mechanism. 2) It has been found from the measurements of average radius and the number of particles per unit area that the average value of activation energy is obtained to be 47.1 ㎉/mole, which shows that coarsening of cementite particles is governed by the interdiffusion mechanism of iron and carbon atoms. 3) Cementite particle size distribution curves experimentally measured appears to approach the steady state distribution curve obtained for diffusion controlling mechanism and not to reach it within a spheroidizing time of 640 hours. The shapes of experimentally determined curves are rather broadened compared to that of steady state distribution curve.

본 연구는 시중에서 거래되고 있는 백삼을 구입하여 수침 처리가 백삼의 원형복원 및 사포닌 성분에 미치는 영향을 구명하고자 수행하였다. 시판백삼은 같은 등급 및 편급의 제품이었으나 뇌두, 근장, 근직경 등 조사 형질에서 제품간 차이가 있었다. 그리고 수침처리에 의해 근중, 동체, 근직경, 근장 등은 증가하여 원료삼으로서 수삼상태를 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 이들 백삼은 온도가 증가할수록 체적이 빨리 증가하여 온도에 의한 영향을 크게 받았으며 다시 건조하여 본래 백삼의 상태로 환원하는 것이 가능하였다. 그리고 수침에 의한 근중의 변화는 2배 이상 증가하였는데 근중이 최고도에 달하는 시간은 대략 24시간 후 이었다. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of soaking treatment in white ginseng and evaluated white ginseng on the restoration to the original shape and the quality of raw ginseng. KW-1 white ginseng had longer rhizome length and main root length. KW-2 had larger rhizome diameter, main root diameter and root weight. KW-3 showed lower quality than the other two white ginseng products. Soaking treatment made the root weight, main root diameter and main root length of raw ginseng increased. The decrease of root weight was significant by drying. The effects of soaking and drying treatment on the characters investigated of the raw ginseng and white ginseng showed same tendency. The higher the soaking temperature was, the faster the increasing rate was. The increasing of white ginseng stopped after around 12 hours from soaking at any soaking temperature.

This study aims to investigate the concentration of formaldehyde, which is one of the most well-known VOCs(Volatile Organic Compounds), and analyze the characteristic of its concentration in newly-constructed apartment houses. The field measurement was conducted in different five apartment house complexes located in Seoul and Kyonggi province. Indoor concentration of formaldehyde showed between 0.018ppm and 0.607ppm. The average concentration was 0.150ppm and above the foreign standards. It result from the new construction. Also, the higher measurement position and the bigger measurement extent, the greater concentration of formaldehyde. And it was treated by the statistic program to examine the objective relations among the concentration of formaldehyd, measurement factors and basic thermo-environment elements. As a result, the temperature, the relative humidity and the measurement position had a validly effect on the concentration of formaldehyde and the temperature extremely influenced it.
중년의 과체중 환자에서 체중 변화가 간기능에 미치는 영향

연구배경 : 과체중 및 비만은 간기능 이상 및 지방간의 원인을 잘 알려져 있다. 본 연구는 중년의 과체중 환자에서 체중 변화가 간기능에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 방법 : 연구대상자는 평균 49.3(±6.9)세의 체질량지수 23kg/㎡ 이상인 57명에 국한하였다. Aspartate aminotransferase (AST)와 alanine aminotransferase (ALT)에 체중 이외에 영향을 미칠 수 이는 질환이나 조건을 배제하였다. 27개월 후 간기능 및 간초음파 검사로 추적관찰이 완료된 57명을 대상으로 첫 방문과 추적 방문 사이의 체중 변화와 간효소 수치의 변화를 비교 및 평가하였다. 결과 : 추적 관찰 기간에 3%의 체중감량을 보인 1군(40명)과 그렇지 않은 2군 (17명)을 비교하였다. 1군의 경우 aspartate aminotransfeerase (AST)와 alanine aminotransferase (ALT) 수치의 변화를 보이지 않은 반면, 2군에서는 처음 방문시보다 추적 방문시 통계학적으로 유의하게 더 높은 AST와 ALT 수치를 보였는데, 각각 5.2±7.1 IU/L 와 6.5±9.9 IU/L 증가하였다. 결론 : 중년의 과체중 환자에서 약 2년 동안 3% 이상 체중 감량이 이루어지지 않을 때, AST 및 ALT 수치가 처음보다 증가한다. Background : This study was aimed at finding out whether weight reduction alone can improve liver function in overweight or obese patients. Methods : We did a longitudinal, observational study on weight reduction. The study subjects were 57 patients referred to an obesity clinic in whom overweight or obesity is the sole factor causing abnormal liver function and fatty liver. Patients were weighed about 27 months later. Results : We compared the degree of improvement in hepatic function between Group I that showed weight reduction and Group Ⅱ that showed no-weight reduction. Group I (40) showed no remarkable change in aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase(ALT) levels. But, Group Ⅱ(12) showed higher AST and ALT levels on follow-up visit than initial visit. AST showed statistically significant elevation by 5.2±7.1 IU/L. ALT also showed statistically significant elevation by 6.5±9.9 IU/L Conclusion : Without weight reduction above 3% during 27 months, overweight patients will have higher elevated AST or ALT than initial visit.

Hematopoietic actions induced by administration of Astragali radix, Angelicae gigantis radix, Rehmanniae radix preparat and Cervi pantotrichum cornu were compared in SAM R1 and P6. We measured complete blood cells such as RBC, Hb and Hct using Coulter's method and compared the results each other in a view of traditional Korean medicine. The administration of Angelicae gigantis radix did not induce hernatopoietic actions in SAMs and also was quite different those from the other 3 herbs. Thus, the mechanisms of the hematopoietic action by Astragali radix, Angelicae gigantis radix, Rehmanniae radix preparat and Cervi pantotrichum cornu could be different each other.
