<P>Members of the inhibitors of differentiation (Id) family of helix-loop-helix (HLH) proteins are known to play important roles in the proliferation and differentiation of many cell types. Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) regulates proliferation and differentiation by activating TSH receptor (TSHR) in thyrocytes. In this study, we found that Id2, one of the Id family proteins, is a major target for regulation by TSH in FRTL-5 thyroid cells. TSH rapidly increases the Id2 mRNA level in FRTL-5 thyroid cells but the Id2 protein showed biphasic regulatory patterns, being transiently reduced and subsequently induced by TSH treatment. Transient reduction of Id2 protein was noted within 2 hr of TSH treatment and was mediated by proteasomal degradation. Moreover, reduced Id2 expression correlated with the activity of the phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase pathway, which is activated by TSH. Although TSH increases the activity of the Id2 promoter, TSH-induced activation of this promoter was independent of c-Myc. Id2 did not alter TTF-1- and Pax-8-mediated effects on the regulation of the Tg promoter. Thus, in summary, we found that TSH regulates Id2 expression, but that Id2 does not alter the expression of thyroid-specific genes, such as Tg, in FRTL-5 thyroid cells.</P>

In this study, a vehicle dynamic analysis program AUTODYN7(AUTOmobil DYNamics in G7) is developed and introduced. An efficient and systematic formulation for dynamics of spatial multibody systems with flexible bodies is presented using the Velocity Transformation technique. In order to reduce the number of elastic coordinates. elastic deformations are represented by the vibration normal modes obtained from finite element analysis. A pre-processor which transforms input data from ADAMS or DADS to AUTODYN7 is also developed.<br/>

This study, basic research for releasing new chestnut cultivar, is conducted to consider quantitative nut characteristics according to combinations and individuals in 11 chestnut hybrids. Number of bur on bearing branch(NBB) and nut yield(NY), which showed large difference among combinations, was superior in JO (J000k×Otanba) and KO (Kwangeun×Otanba) combinations, respectively. Average nut weight (NW) was 21.1g, the highest in EO (Eunsan×Otanha) combination. Nut shape which was expressed to the rate of nut height and width, was investigated to the range of 1.13-1.23 in the all combinations, so nut shape of all combinations showed oval type. EO and JO combinations, which were measured to 30.0% and 27.5%, respectively in the percentage with the pericarp split(PPS), were produced more bad fruits than the others. OK (Otanba×Kwangeun) combination, 1.7%, was the most excellent in the percentage of polyembtyonic nuts(PPN), and the superior combinations which was measured to the below 5%, could be included five combinations. ER and RK combinations, were the highest values, 16.3% and 10.0 kg! ㎠, in soluble solids content(SSC) and kernel hardness (KH), respectively. NBB showed highly positive correlation with NY but showed highly negative correlation with SSC and NW. NW showed highly positive correlation with PPS, but showed highly negative correlation with SSC and NH. PPS showed highly positive correlation with PPN. Eight individuals such as superior individuals could be selected by selection criteria.

<P>Nonlocal photoluminescence (PL) signal transfer through semiconducting nanostructures has been intensively studied for its potential applicability in photonic circuits, optical communications, and optical sensing. In this study, organic semiconducting rubrene microrods (MRs) were synthesized and hybridized with functionalized gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs) to optimize both their optical and biosensing properties. The steady-state local PL intensity of the rubrene MR was considerably enhanced by the Au-NPs' hybridization due to the energy-transfer effect from the surface plasmon (SP) coupling. It was clearly observed that the nonlocal PL signal-transfer efficiency of rubrene/Au-NPs hybrid MRs drastically increased along crystalline axes with the aid of the SP effect. The coupling of exciton polaritons in the luminescent rubrene MR with the SP as well as the scattering effect contribute to the variation of the exciton decay rate, resulting in a change in the PL signal-transfer efficiency for the hybrid MRs. The enhancement of the local and nonlocal PL emission of the rubrene/Au-NPs hybrid MRs was applied to ultrasensitive and remote biosensing. We observed PL signal transfer of fluorescent-dye attached DNA along the MR and successfully detected target-DNA with a concentration of 100 picomole using rubrene/Au-NPs/probe-DNA hybrid MR.</P>
균혈증, 안내염 및 전립선농양이 합병된 Klebsiella pneumoniae 간농양 1예

저자들은 평소에 건강했던 72세 남자 환자에서 균혈증, 안내염 및 전림선농양이 합병된 Klebsiella pneumoniae 간농양 1예를 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 이를 보고하는 바이다. Metastatic infections were rare complications of Klebsiella pneumoniae lever abscess and bacterremia. However, over the past 15 years, they have become prevalent infectious complications in diabetic patients in Taiwan. A 72-year old man was admitted to Kyung-Hee University Hospital with fever, chill, dysuria, and frequency. On rectal examination the prostate gland was tender. Abdominal sonogram showed liver abscess. On hospital day 3, orbital pain, eyelid edema, conjunctival chemosis, hypopyon, and absence of light perception were noted in the right eye. K. pneumoniae was isolated from blood culture. The antimicrobial susceptibility test showed susceptibility to all antibiotics, except ampicillin. He was treated with ceftrizxone and astromicin intravenously for 3 weeks and follow un-transrectal sonogram revealed formation of prostatic abcess. We report a case of K. pneumoniae liver abscess complicated with bacteremia, endophthalmitis, and prostatic abscess.

<P>An effective way to improve the functionalities and stabilities of metal organic frameworks (MOFs) is developed by employing exfoliated metal oxide 2D nanosheets as matrix for immobilization. Crystal growth of zeolitic imidazolate framework 8 (ZIF-8) nanocrystals on the surface of layered titanate nanosheets yields intimately coupled nanohybrids of ZIF-8-layered titanate. The resulting nanohybrids show much greater surface areas and larger pore volumes than do the pristine ZIF-8, leading to the remarkable improvement of the CO2 adsorption ability of MOF upon hybridization. Of prime importance is that the thermal- and hydrostabilities of ZIF-8 are significantly enhanced by a strong chemical interaction with the robust titanate nanosheet. A strong interfacial interaction between ZIF-8 and the layered titanate is verified by molecular mechanics simulations and spectroscopic analysis. The universal applicability of the present strategy for the coupling of MOFs and metal oxide nanosheets is substantiated by the stabilization of Ti-MOF-NH2 via the immobilization on exfoliated V2O5 nanosheets. The present study underscores that hybridization with metal oxide 2D nanosheets provides an efficient and universal synthetic route to novel MOF-based hybrid materials with enhanced gas adsorptivity and stability.</P>

<P>Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid that is considered to have applications in cancer prevention and treatment. The beneficial effects of DHA against cancer metastasis are well established; however, the mechanisms underlying these effects in breast cancer are not clear. Cell invasion is critical for neoplastic metastasis, and involves the degradation of the extracellular matrix by matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9. The present study investigated the inhibitory effect of DHA on MMP-9 expression and cell invasion induced by 12-<I>O</I>-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) in the MCF-7 breast cancer cell line. DHA inhibited the TPA-induced activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and the transcription of nuclear factor (NF)-κB, but did not inhibit the transcription of activator protein-1. DHA increased the activity of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-γ, an effect that was reversed by the application of the PPAR-γ antagonist GW9662. In addition, combined treatment with GW9662 and DHA increased NF-κB-related protein expression. These results indicate that DHA regulates MMP-9 expression and cell invasion via modulation of the MAPK signaling pathway and PPAR-γ/NF-κB activity. This suggests that DHA could be a potential therapeutic agent for the prevention of breast cancer metastasis.</P>

<P>Several studies have revealed that the preoperative serum testosterone and percent tumor volume (PTV) predict extra-prostatic extension (EPE) and biochemical recurrence (BCR) after radical prostatectomy. This study investigated the prognostic significance of serum testosterone and PTV in relation to EPE and BCR after laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP). We reviewed 520 patients who underwent LRP between 2004 and 2012. PTV was determined as the sum of all visually estimated tumor foci in every section. BCR was defined as two consecutive increases in the postoperative prostate-specific antigen (PSA) >0.2 ng ml<SUP>−1</SUP>. The threshold for serum total testosterone was 3.0 ng ml<SUP>−1</SUP>. Multivariate logistic regression was used to define the effect of variables on the risk of EPE and BCR. A low serum testosterone (<3.0 ng ml<SUP>−1</SUP>) was associated with a high serum PSA, Gleason score, positive core percentage of the prostate biopsy, PTV, and all pathological variables. On multivariate analysis, similar to previous studies, the serum PSA, biopsy positive core percentage, Gleason score, and pathological variables predicted EPE and BCR. In addition, low serum testosterone (<3.0 ng ml<SUP>−1</SUP>, adjusted OR, 8.52; 95% CI, 5.04–14.4, <I>P</I> = 0.001) predicted EPE and PTV (adjusted OR, 1.02; 95% CI, 1.01–1.05, <I>P</I> = 0.046) predicted BCR. In addition to previous predictors of EPE and BCR, low serum testosterone and PTV are valuable predictors of EPE and BCR after LRP.</P>
