Backgrounds/Aims: Parenchymal-sparing anatomical hepatectomy (Ps–AH) based on portal ramification of the right anterior section (RAS) is a new technique to avoid unnecessarily transecting too much liver parenchyma, especially in cases of major anatomical hepatectomy. Methods: We prospectively assessed 26 patients with primary hepatic malignancies having undergone major Ps–AH based on portal ramification of the RAS from August 2018 to August 2022 (48 months). The perioperative indications, clinical data, intra-operative index, pathological postoperative specimens, postoperative complications, and follow-up results were retrospectively evaluated. Results: Among the 26 patients analyzed, there was just one case that had intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma The preoperative level of α– Fetoprotein was 25.2 ng/mL. All cases (100%) had Child–Pugh A liver function preoperatively. The ventral/dorsal RAS was preserved in 19 and 7 patients, respectively. The mean surgical margin was 6.2 mm. The mean surgical time was 228.5 minutes, while the mean blood loss was 255 mL. In pathology, 5 cases (19.2%) had microvascular invasion, and in the group of HCC patients, 92% of all cases had moderate or poor tumor differentiation. Six cases (23.1%) of postoperative complications were graded over III according to the Clavien–Dindo system, including in three patients resistant ascites or intra-abdominal abscess that required intervention. Conclusions: Parenchymal-sparing anatomical hepatectomy based on portal ramification of the RAS to achieve R0-resection was safe and effective, with favorable short-term outcomes. This technique can be used widely in clinical practice.

Background and objective: For countries vulnerable to climate change as Vietnam, indigenous knowledge (IK) might assist in revealing the values of local people's adaptations to environmental stresses and potentially support decision-making. Despite IK can provide the adaptive capacity of local people's activities within environmental contexts, but it is rapidly vanishing. This study aimed to describe the documentation of IK associated with climate change adaptation of farmers in the Vietnam Mekong Delta (VMD). Methods: We focused on collecting and establishing online access to IK documents through collaboration between IK holders, public sector, collecting institutions, and researchers in the five agro-ecological zones of the VMD. An online IK database for storing IK documents has been designed and implemented based on the web application schema. Results: Through interviews, we gathered IK from farming practices that are well-adapted to climate risks such as floods, droughts, and saltwater intrusions as well as traditional knowledge being used to forecast weather, flood, and saltwater intrusion. The database for storing IK documents has been successfully deployed using free and open-source software. The database currently contains more than 260 IK documents, with their location on agro-ecological zones displayed on a web-based map. Conclusion: We have captured and provided an online access to IK on climate change adaptation of the farmers in the VMD. This research is expected as an initial strategy for long-term sustainable development of the agriculture system in this region.

Van Thanh Hoang,Quang Bang Tao,Bich-Tram Truong-Le,Minh Sang Tran,Duc Binh Luu 대한기계학회 2021 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.35 No.9
Mechanical property is one of the quite important factors of optical articles. Most of pure plastics materials are rarely found to have both high strength and toughness. The paper aims to investigate mechanical properties of polymethyl methacrylate and polycarbonate (PC/PMMA) blends by means of injection molding process and optimization technique. In this study, four factors including composition, packing pressure, melt temperature, and cooling time are taken into account. Experimental results show that the composition is found as the most significant factor for improving the mechanical properties of PC/PMMA blends with confidence level of 95 %. Meanwhile, melt temperature and cooling time are also the most significant parameters for enhancing impact strength with 95 % confidence level. In addition, the mechanical properties of the PC/PMMA plastics composites have been enhanced significantly. Specifically, average tensile yield strength, impact strength, and average elongation are 76.5 MPa, 7429.5 J/m 2 , and 17.5 mm, respectively.

Minh Ngoc‑Uyen Nguyen,Toi Van Vo,Phuong Ha‑Lien Tran,Thao Truong‑Dinh Tran 한국약제학회 2017 Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation Vol.47 No.4
The study aims to design and evaluate the ability of zein in solid dispersion (SD) system to enhance drug dissolution rate for a further application of colonic delivery of poorly water-soluble drug. The SD samples were prepared by solvent method and the investigation of drug release was performed at pH 7.4. The wettability, molecular interactions and drug’s crystal behaviours of SDs were studied by contact angle measurement, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), respectively. Zein-based SDs showed its potential in enhancing the rate of drug release. The PXRD results pointed out a rearrangement of drug’s crystalline structure in some SD samples through the appearance of new peaks on PXRD diffractogram, while a formation of a hydrogen bond between prednisolone (PRL) and zein was also confirmed by FTIR spectra. It was evident that a strong relationship between the amount of zein and the dissolution rate of PRL in SD system attributed to zein hydrophobicity, recrystallization and molecular interaction which were factors inducing the enhanced drug release rate. In conclusion, zein is a potential carrier for controlled release SD systems, especially further application for poorly water-soluble drugs in colonic delivery like PRL due to the resistance of zein at low pH environment.

Van Thai Than,Ha Thi Thanh Tran,Duc Viet Ly,Hoang Vu Dang,Minh Nam Nguyen,Anh Duc Truong 한국유전학회 2019 Genes & Genomics Vol.41 No.10
Background B cell lymphoma (BCL) families play an important role in apoptosis as a growth factor, cell death programming, cytokine expression and immune-related genes expression. Objectives In this study, to investigate the roles of BCLs, we performed genome-wide identification, expression and functional analyses of the BCL family in chicken. Methods Chicken BCLs genes were identified and analyzed by using bioinformatics approach. Expression profiles and Hierarchical cluster analysis of the BCLs genes in different chicken tissues were obtained from the genome-wide RNA-seq in the GEO, and Cluster and Java Treeview, respectively. Results A total of 16 BCLs genes were identified from the chicken genome, which could be further classified into five distinct groups in the phylogenetic tree. On the other hand, the interaction among BCLs proteins and between BCLs proteins with NF-κB subunits are limited, indicating that the remaining the functions of BCLs protein could be investigated in chicken. Moreover, KEGG pathway analysis indicated that BCL gene family was involved in regulation of apoptotic and immune response. Finally, BCL gene family was differentially expressed in chicken tissues, pathogen infection and growth stages of early chicken early embryo. Conclusion This study provides significant insights into the potential functions of BCLs in chicken, including the regulation of apoptosis, cell death and expression of immune-related genes.

Trombiculid “chigger” mites (Acari) are ectoparasites that feed blood on rodents and another animals. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 7 ecosystems of southern Vietnam from 2015 to 2016. Chigger mites were identified with morphological characteristics and assayed by polymerase chain reaction for detection of rickettsiaceae. Overall chigger infestation among rodents was 23.38%. The chigger index among infested rodents was 19.37 and a mean abundance of 4.61. A total of 2,770 chigger mites were identified belonging to 6 species, 3 genera, and 1 family, and pooled into 141 pools (10–20 chiggers per pool). Two pools (1.4%) of the chiggers were positive for Orientia tsutsugamushi. Ricketsia spp. was not detected in any pools of chiggers. Further studies are needed including a larger number and diverse hosts, and environmental factors to assess scrub typhus.

Realizing a long-term, high-performance, and affordable photocatalytic setting for water splitting processesremains challenging despite the tremendous promise. We present a direct fabrication of graphitic carbon nitride-wrappedtitanate nanotube array (gC3N4-wrapped TNA) heterojunction photoelectrodes via a chemical vapor deposition-likeprocess that leverages the pyrolysis and sublimation of melamine at 500 oC. The gC3N4-wrapped TNA heterojunctionphotoelectrodes show a 16 times enhancement of current density and photo-response than bare TNAs. Such a remarkableenhancement comes from the effective charge separation of the gC3N4/TNA interfaces, consequently acceleratingwater splitting to generate oxygen under visible light. In addition, our gC3N4-wrapped TNA photoelectrodes are developedunder a neutral condition that significantly increases their widespread use for practical devices.
