        뇌졸중 위험인자를 가진 어지럼 환자에서의 확산강조 자기공명영상

        Background: The management of vertiginous patients is a great challenge to emergency physicians. We evaluated the diagnostic value of a diffusion-weighted image(DWI) in differentiating central vertigo from the peripheral vertigo in patients who presented no neurological symptoms other than risk factors for stroke. Methods: From March 2000 to February 2001, we retrospectively analyzed the cases of 68 patients who visited the emergency department with symptoms of isolated vertigo and who had risk factors for stroke. DWIs, computed tomograms(CT), and medical records were reviewed, and the final diagnose, the DWIs and the CT readings, the risk factors for stroke, and the time it took waiting for a DWI or CT scan were analyzed. Results: Of the 68 patients, 21(30.8%) had central vertigo: 15 vertebrobasilar transient ischemic attacks(VB-TIA), 4 brain stem infarctions, 1 cerebellar infarction, and 1 cerebellopeduncular infarction. The DWI showed a 28.6% sensitivity, a 97.9% specificity, and an 85.7% positive predictive value in diagnosing central vertigo. It also had a 100% sensitivity in detecting infarctions. Conclusion: A DWI had a comparable sensitivity to MRI in detecting central vertigo and small, but potentially, lethal infarctions in our patient population. We recommend clinical application of DWI in the emergency department evaluation of isolated vertigo patients with risk factors for stroke.

      • 육제품 중 아질산염 잔류량과 몇 가지 농산물의 질산염 함량

        식육 햄, 식육 소시지 및 어육 소시지 등의 시료를 각각 15개씩 취하여 아질산염 잔류량을 정량하고, 또한 구기자, 오미자, 결명자, 시금치, 오렌지, 피망, 고추, 마늘 및 레몬 등의 몇가지 농산물을 구입하여 질산염의 함량을 측정한 결과는 다음과 같았다. 즉, 육제품의 경우 아질산염 잔류량은 식육 햄 12.8∼32.85 ppm, 식육 소시지 1.12∼14.71 ppm 및 어육 소시지 0.02∼0.45 ppm으로 식육 제품은 큰 변동치를 보였으나 어육 제품은 상당히 낮은 수준의 잔유량을 나타내었다. 한편 어육 소시지 15개 시료 중 8개 시료에서는 아질산염이 검출되지 않았다. 농산물 시료 중의 질산염 함량은 구기자 10,347 ppm(건물기준), 피망 7,236 ppm, 결명자 5,820 ppm(건물기준), 오렌지 4,152 ppm으로 유럽의 기준치 (1500∼3500 ppm)보다 많았으며, 나머지는 오미자 2,910 ppm, 시금치 2,078 ppm, 마늘 1,061 ppm, 고추 575 ppm, 레몬 170 ppm 순이었다. The residues of nitrite in meat products such as meat ham, meat sausage and fish sausages were determined with 15 samples, respectively. And the nitrate content of various agricultural products such gugija (Lycium chinese Mill.), omija(Maximowiczia chinensis Repr.), gyeolmyeongja (Cassia tora L.), spinach, orange, sweet pepper, red pepper, garlic bulb and lemon. The residues of nitrite in meat ham, meat sausage and fish sausage were 12.85∼32.85 ppm, 1.12∼14.71 ppm and 0.02∼0.4 ppm, respectively. The average residual content of nitrite in fish sausage was 0.17±0.13 ppm and was not detected from 7 samples of fish sausage among 15. The respective nitrate content of gugija, gyeolmyeongja and sweet pepper were 10.347 ppm (dry basis ), 5,820 ppm and 7.236 ppm (dry basis) and other results showed 4,152 ppm for orange, 2,910 ppm for omija, 2.78 ppm for spinach, 1,061 ppm for garlic bulb, 575 ppm for red pepper and 170 for lemon.

      • 시금치 및 마늘의 아질산염 소거작용 및 전자공여작용

        주요 야채 및 향신료로 이용되고 있는 시금치와 마늘로부터 물 추출물과 메탄을 추출물을 조제한 다음, phenol 화합물의 함량, 전자공여작용 및 아질산염 소거작용 등을 측정하고 검토하였다. 시금치와 미늘의 methanol 추출물이 물 추출물보다는 다소 높은 전자공여 작용을 나타내었으며, 방향족 화합물의 함량은 시금치의 methanol 추출물과 마늘의 물 추출물이 다른 두 종류의 추출물 보다는 비교적 높은 전자공여작용을 보였다. 그리고 물 추출물과 methanol 추출물 중에서 pH1.2에서 마늘의 물 추출물이 98.62%로 가장 두드러진 아질산염 소거율을 나타내었으며, 이 외에는 아질산염 소거작용면에서 거의 전반적으로 methanol 추출물이 물 추출물보다는 훨씬 효과적이었다. This study was conducted to investigate the electron donating ability(EDA) and nitrite scavenging ability of water extracts and methanol extracts from spinach and garlic-bulb. Methanol extracts from two samples showed comparatively higher EDA, and the content of phenolic substances of methanol extract from spinach and water extract from garlic-bulb was more than another extracts. The nitrite scavenging ability of water extracts from garlic-bulb showed the highest ratio of 98.62% among those extracts at pH1.2 and the decreasing tendency was clearly pH-dependent. Generally methanol extracts from two samples showed higher effective nitrite scavenging abilities than water extracts.

      • 딸기 ‘설향’ 육묘 시 모주의 묘소질과 정식 시기가 런너와 자묘의 생육에 미치는 영향

        This study was conducted to investigate the effect of plantlet quality and transplanting time of mother plants on the growth of runner and daughter plants of strawberry (Fragaria×ananassa) ‘Seolhyang’ during nursery. Plantlet quality of mother plants is expected to be able to distinguish on the basis of crown diameter because crown diameter was highly correlated with fresh weight(r = 0.85), leaf area(r = 0.81), root weight(r = 0.75) and 1st primary roots(r = 0.73). Mother plants were transplanted based on the crown diameter (7~9 mm, 9~11 mm, 11~13 mm and 13~15 mm) in 15 March, 2012. Also, mother plants were transplanted in 15 March, 30 March, 15 April, 30 April and 15 May to investigate the best transplanting date. As a result, the number of daughter plants in the treatment 9~11 mm and 11~13 mm were 22.7 and 22.4 respectively at the end of July. But the number of daughter plants in the treatment of 7~9 mm and 13~15 mm reduced 26% and 16% respectively compared to the average number of the daughter plants in the treatment between 9 mm and 13 mm. The number of daughter plants in the treatment of 15 March, 15 April and 15 May were 20.2, 18.8 and 13.2 respectively at the end of July. Early time of transplanting was able to obtain the more daughter plants and improve the plantlet quality of daughter plants. Therefore, mother plants having crown diameter between 9 mm and 13 mm recommended to be transplanted until the end of March to obtain sufficient daughter plants and improve plantlet quality of daughter plants for producing strawberry fruits.

        Significance of albumin to globulin ratio as a predictor of febrile urinary tract infection after ureteroscopic lithotripsy

        Background: We aimed to analyze the effectiveness of albumin to globulin ratio (AGR) in predicting postoperative febrile urinary tract infection (fUTI) after ureteroscopic lithotripsy (URS) and retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS). Methods: From January 2013 to May 2018, 332 patients underwent URS and RIRS. The rate of postoperative fUTI and risk factors for postoperative fUTI were analyzed using logistic regression. Patients were divided into postoperative fUTI and non-postoperative fUTI (non-fUTI) groups. AGR with other demographic and perioperative data were compared between the two groups to predict the development of fUTI after URS. Results: Of the 332 patients, postoperative fUTI occurred in 41 (12.3%). Preoperative pyuria, microscopic hematuria, diabetes mellitus, hypoalbuminemia, and hyperglobulinemia were more prevalent in the fUTI group. Patients in the fUTI group had larger stone size, lower preoperative AGR, longer operation time, and longer preoperative antibiotic coverage period. In a multivariable logistic analysis, preoperative pyuria, AGR, and stone size were independently correlated with postoperative fUTI (p<0.001, p=0.008, and p=0.041, respectively). Receiver operating curve analysis showed that the cutoff value of AGR that could predict a high risk of fUTI after URS was 1.437 (sensitivity, 77.3%; specificity, 76.9%), while the cutoff value of stone size was 8.5 mm (sensitivity, 55.3%; specificity, 44.7%). Conclusion: This study demonstrated that preoperative pyuria, AGR, and stone size can serve as prognostic factors for predicting fUTI after URS.

        In-decorated NiO Nanoigloos Gas Sensor with Morphological Evolution for Ethanol Sensors

        We investigated the facile and effective strategy for sensitive and selective C2H5OH sensors based on the In-decorated NiO nanoi- gloos. The In-decorated NiO nanoigloos is fabricated by RF sputtering using 750 nm-diameter polystyrene beads using a soft-template. The morphological evolution based on the Van der Drift model was generated through a heterojunction between In metal and NiO, resulting in a pyramidal rough surface. Upon decorating the In on the NiO surface, high sensitivity and selectivity to C2H5OH wereobserved, and gas sensing mechanism was demonstrated by a high surface-to-volume and double Schottky barrier. We are confidentthat the method presented in this study will have a significant impact on the fabrication of effective nanostructures and their application for the gas sensors.

      • Molecular Cloning and Induction of β-1,3-Glucanase Gene from Nicotiana glutinosa L.

        Cloning and characterization of disease-response genes in plants could be an initial step toward understanding the complex disease resistance mechanism. To better understand the complex step, we isolated one of the pathogenesis-related proteins, β-1,3-glucanase, cDNA from a cDNA library of Nicotiana glutinosa showing systemic resistance. One clon (GN-3) was a partial cDNA of β-1,3-glucanase 800 bp in size with a 171 amino acid coding region. This clone had a 90% uncleotide homology with the β-1,3-glucanase gene of N. tabacum cv. BY4. A deduced amino acid sequence of GN-3 clones indicated a 91% identity with the β-1,3-glucanase of tobacco, 58% with that of Lycopersicon esculentum, and 51% with that of Glycine max. Northern blot analysis showed that expression of β-1,3-glucanase mRNAs was induced by TMV infection and salicylic acid treatment. In addition to that this gene was highly induced by CuSO4 and β-aminobutyric acid which are known as inducers of plant disease resistance. The possible orle of this gene expression in relation to chemical-induced plant defense responses is discussed.

      • Immunomodulatory Extracellular Matrix for Macrophage Polarization and Tissue Regeneration

        Immunomodulation in the local tissue microenvironment plays an important role in macrophage polarization that includes its phenotypic expression and pro-healing function. Here, we demonstrate that a lymph node extracellular matrix (LNEM) derived from porcine lymph node tissues can sufficiently mimic natural lymph node tissue and provide optimal biochemical and biophysical cues for immunomodulation in both two-dimensional (2D) coating system and three-dimensional (3D) hydrogel system. The LNEM with intricate extracellular matrix environment leads to strengthened immunomodulatory effects and a 3D hydrogel system proves to be more effective than 2D coating system. The 3D LNEM induces macrophage elongation and enhances M2-type marker expression. Also, the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines are increased and phagocytic function is enhanced in macrophages cultured in 3D LNEM. Finally, the implantation of an LNEM hydrogel in a mouse volumetric muscle loss model facilitates the recruitment of host macrophages to the site of injury and enhances macrophage polarization towards the M2 phenotype, which is ideal for tissue regeneration. Therefore, our findings suggest that 3D immune system-mimicking biomaterials can stimulate M2 macrophage phenotype polarization and give rise to highly functional macrophages, making it a useful platform for tissue modeling and wound healing.

      • Antitumor effects of genetically engineered stem cells expressing yeast cytosine deaminase in lung cancer brain metastases via their tumor-tropic properties.

        <P>Although mortality related with primary tumors is approximately 10%, metastasis leads to 90% of cancer-associated death. The majority of brain metastases result from lung cancer, but the metastatic mechanism remains unclear. In general, chemotherapy for treating brain diseases is disrupted by the brain blood barrier (BBB). As an approach to improve treatment of lung cancer metastasis to the brain, we employed genetically engineered stem cells (GESTECs), consisting of neural stem cells (NSCs) expressing a suicide gene. Cytosine deaminase (CD), one of the suicide genes, originating from bacterial (bCD) or yeast (yCD), which can convert the non-toxic prodrug, 5-fluorocytosine (5-FC), into 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), can inhibit cancer cell growth. We examined the therapeutic efficacy and migratory properties of GESTECs expressing yCD, designated as HB1.F3.yCD, in a xenograft mouse model of lung cancer metastasis to the brain. In this model, A549 lung cancer cells were implanted in the right hemisphere of the mouse brain, while CM-DiI pre-stained HB1.F3.yCD cells were implanted in the contralateral brain. Two days after the injection of stem cells, 5-FC was administered via intraperitoneal injection. The tumor-tropic effect of HB1.F3.yCD was evident by fluorescent analysis, in which red-colored stem cells migrated to the lung tumor mass of the contralateral brain. By histological analysis of extracted brain, the therapeutic efficacy of HB1.F3.yCD in the presence of 5-FC was confirmed by the reduction in density and aggressive tendency of lung cancer cells following treatment with 5-FC, compared to a negative control or HB1.F3.yCD injection without 5-FC. Taken together, these results indicate that HB1.F3.yCD expressing a suicide gene may be a new therapeutic strategy for lung cancer metastases to the brain in the presence of a prodrug.</P>
