Inoculation of the carrier-based mixed bioinoculants af N-fixer (Azospirillum lipoferum strain Az204/Rhizobium strain BMBS P47) and phosphate-solubilizing bacterium (Bacillus megaterium var phosphaticum strain Pb 1) promoted growth and yield of pearl millet and blackgram under pot-culture conditions. The mixed inoculant of Az204 and Pb 1 enhanced germination, seedling vigor, plant height, and seed weight, and resulted in $6\%$ increase in grain yield of pearl millet. Likewise, the mixed inoculant of BMBS P47 and Pb1 increased growth, nodulation, and yield in blackgram. The rhizosphere soil enzyme activities, including nitrogenase, urease, and phosphatase, in both pearl millet and blackgram were significantly increased by the inoculation of the mixed inoculant, compared to that of the individual inoculants. The results clearly indicate the beneficial effect of co-culturing the N-fixer and P-solubilizer in inoculants production.

Phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB) were isolated from the rhizosphere of Chinese cabbage and screened on the basis of their solubilization of inorganic tricalcium phosphate in liquid cultures. Ten strains that had higher solubilization potential were selected, and they also produced indole-3- acetic acid, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase, and siderophores. The strains were identified to be members of Pseudomonas, by 16S rDNA sequence analysis. Seed bacterization with PSB strains increased the root elongation and biomass of Chinese cabbage in seedling culture, although they had no effect on phosphorus uptake of plants. The plant growth promotion by PSB in this study could be due to the production of phytohormones or mechanisms other than phosphate solubilization, since they had no effect on P nutrition.

with rice plants from diferent cultivars was enumerated atthre diferent stages: vegetative, flowering, and harvesting. The bacterial population in the leaf, rhizosphere soil, endophyticin the stem and roots, and epiphytic in the florets and grainswere determined from four rice cultivars, Il-mi, Nam-pyeoung,O-dae, and Dong-jin, sampled from thre different field sites. The methylotrophic bacteria isolated on AMS media containing0.5% methanol as the sole carbon source uniformly showedgroups and their distribution among the various samples wasdetermined using the ecophysiological index. The growthstage at the time of sampling had a more significant efect onthe methylotrophic population and their distribution than thefield site or cultivar. A similar effect was also observed for thePPFMs, where their population in diferent plant partsincreased from V10 to R4 and then decreased towards stageR9. A canonical discriminant analysis of the PPFM populationcultivars, sampled sites, and growth stages, although thevariations were more prominent among the growth stages.
