We experienced a case of malignant lymphoma of the spleen on 69-year-old male patient with huge splenomegaly. The spleen represented diffuse proliferation of large lymphocytes with plasmacytoid feature by microscope and strong positively stained to B-cell marker for immunohistochemical stain and finally diagnosed as malignant lymphoma, large cell, immunoblastic, diffuse(B-cell type). So we reported this case and reviewed the related literature briefly.

The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship between Kiesler's Correalism and Digital Architecture, and the essence of the Digital Architecture, by comparing the spatial concept of Frederick J. Kiesler, who was active between 1920's and 1960's, with that of Greg Lynn, who is a digital architect. How Kiesler, who was contemporary with Le Corbusier, had tried to approach architecturally in a way other than the functionalism of Modernism, and how it is interlinked with the way the digital architects of today designs is analyzed in this thesis. Kiesler's Concepts - Correalism, Endless House, Biotechnique, and Galaxy - is analyzed, and compared with the Concept of Greg Lynn's space.

<P>This study aimed to evaluate the effects of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on short- and long-term major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in elderly (>75 yr old) acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients with renal dysfunction. As part of Korea AMI Registry (KAMIR), elderly patients with AMI and renal dysfunction (GFR<60 mL/min) received either medical (n=439) or PCI (n=1,019) therapy. Primary end point was in-hospital death. Secondary end point was MACE during a 1 month and 1 yr follow-up. PCI group showed a significantly lower incidence of in-hospital death (20.0% vs 14.3%, <I>P</I>=0.006). Short-term and long-term MACE rates were higher in medical therapy group (31.9% vs 19.0%; 57.7% vs 31.3%, <I>P</I><0.001), and this difference was mainly attributed to cardiac death (29.3% vs 17.6%; 51.9% vs 25.0%, <I>P</I><0.001). MACE-free survival time after adjustment was also higher in PCI group on short-term (hazard ratio, 0.67; confidence interval, 0.45-0.98; <I>P</I>=0.037) and long-term follow-up (hazard ratio, 0.61, confidence interval, 0.45-0.83; <I>P</I>=0.002). In elderly AMI patients with renal dysfunction, PCI therapy yields favorable in-hospital and short-term and long-term MACE-free survival.</P>

<P><B>Summary</B></P><P><B>Background</B></P><P>The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of alpha lipoic acid (α-LA) on a porcine in-stent restenosis (ISR) model.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>In protocol 1, porcine vascular smooth muscle cells (PVSMC) were stimulated by granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) in the presence or absence of α-LA. MTT (3-[4,5-dimethylthiazole-2-yl] 2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) assay and western blotting were used to determine the cell growth inhibitory rate and anti-inflammatory effect associated with nuclear factor-κb (NF-κb) and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK). In protocol 2, 28 days after balloon overdilation injuries, 24 bare metal stents were placed in coronary artery of 12 pigs. The pigs were randomly divided to receive control diet with or without α-LA (100mg/kg). In protocol 3, 8 control stents and 8 α-LA coated stents were randomly implanted in 2 coronary arteries of 8 pigs and follow-up coronary angiogram and histopathologic assessment were performed 4 weeks after stenting.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Protocol 1. The proliferation of PVSMC was inhibited and protein expression of NF-κb and ERK were attenuated by α-LA pretreatment. Protocol 2<I>.</I> On histopathologic analysis, the neointimal area (4.0±1.0mm<SUP>2</SUP> vs. 1.5±0.7mm<SUP>2</SUP>, <I>p</I><0.001) and histopathologic area of stenosis (66.7±10.7% vs. 24.2±9.7%, <I>p</I><0.001) were reduced in the α-LA feeding group compared to controls. Protocol 3. On histopathologic analysis, the neointimal area (3.9±0.8mm<SUP>2</SUP> vs. 1.0±0.4mm<SUP>2</SUP>, <I>p</I><0.001), and the histopathologic area of stenosis (67.1±8.8% vs. 17.4±10.0%, <I>p</I><0.001) were reduced in the α-LA coated stent group compared to the control stent group.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>α-LA feeding and α-LA coated stents inhibit neointimal hyperplasia in porcine ISR, possibly through inhibiting the activation of NF-κb pathway and proliferation of PVSMC.</P>
초등학생의 인지된 운동능력과 학교체육수업만족, 운동정서 및 운동지속의 구조모형분석

본 연구는 초등학생들의 인지된 운동능력과 학교체육수업만족, 운동정서 및 운동 지속에 대한 인과관계를 분석하여 초등학생들이 운동을 지속적으로 향상시킬 수 있는 프로그램으로서 인지된 운동능력의 역할과 가능성에 대한 이론적 근거를 마련하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이러한 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 2015년 3월 ~ 8월까지 G도에 거주하고 있는 초등학교 5, 6학년 학생을 모집단으로 설정하고 편의표본추출법(convenience sampling)방법을 활용하여 325명을 표집하여, 설문에 응답하지 않거나 불성실한 응답자를 제외한 후 총 290명의 유효 표본을 확보한 후 자료를 분석하였다. 자료 수집을 위한 연구도구로는 선행연구에서 사용된 문항을 기초로 하여 이 연구에 맞게 수정 보완하여 사용하였으며, 설문지의 타당성 확보를 위해 탐색적 요인분석(exploratory factor analysis : EFA)과 확인적 요인분석(confirmatary factor analysis : CFA)을 이용하여 타당도 검사를 실시하였고, 자료 분석을 위하여 본 연구 에서 사용한 통계분석기법은 구조방정식(structure equation modeling)모형분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 초등학생의 인지된 운동능력은 학교체육수업만족, 운동정서 및 운동지속에 직접적인 영향을 미친다. 둘째, 초등학생의 학교체육수업만족은 운동정서와 운동지속에 직접적인 영향을 미친다. 셋째, 초등학생의 운동정서는 운동지속에 직접적인 영향을 미친다. The purpose of this study was to find out structural relationships between the elementary student’s perceived exercise ability, elementary physical class satisfaction, exercise emotion and exercise adherence. In order to achieve this purpose, elementary school 5th, 6th grade students who are attending schools in G metropolitan cities in 2015 were selected as the convenience sampling. After excluding incomplete survey forms, a total of 290 valid samples were analyzed. The statistical methods used for this study are exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, structure equation modeling analysis. The conclusion of this study are as follows: First, the elementary student s perceived exercise ability had a direct influence on elementary physical class satisfaction, exercise emotion, and exercise adherence Second, the elementary physical class satisfaction had a direct influence on exercise emotion and exercise adherence Third, the exercise emotion had a direct influence on exercise adherence.

<P>Two moderately halotolerant Gram-negative bacteria were isolated from tidal flat sediment of the South Sea in Korea (the Korea Strait). The strains, designated M9T and M18T, were strictly aerobic, rod-shaped and non-spore-forming and motile with a flagellum and their major fatty acids were C(16:0) and C(19:0) cyclo omega8c. Strains M9T and M18T could grow in the presence of up to 13-15% (w/v) NaCl, but their optimum salt concentrations were relatively low (0-3%, w/v). The major predominant isoprenoid quinone was Q-8 and the G + C content of the genomic DNA was 57-58 mol%. Phylogenetic analyses and comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence studies revealed that strains M9T and M18T formed a phylogenetic lineage distinct from the genus Teredinibacter within the class Gammaproteobacteria and were most closely related to the genera Microbulbifer, Saccharophagus and Teredinibacter, with less than 92.5% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity. The level of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between the two strains was 96.7%. On the basis of physiological and phylogenetic properties, strains M9T and M18T represent separate species within a novel genus of the class Gammaproteobacteria, for which the names Marinimicrobium koreense gen. nov., sp. nov. (type species) and Marinimicrobium agarilyticum sp. nov. are proposed. The type strains of Marinimicrobium koreense and Marinimicrobium agarilyticum are M9T (= KCTC 12356T = DSM 16974T) and M18T (= KCTC 12357T = DSM 16975T), respectively.</P>
Impedimetric analysis on the mass transfer properties of intact and competent <i>E. coli</i> cells

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Competent <I>Escherichia coli</I> cells are commonly used in bacterial transformation owing to its high permeability for bioorganic macromolecules like plasmid DNA. However, the mass transfer property of competent <I>E. coli</I> cell has not fully investigated. In the present study, mass transfer coefficients of competent and intact <I>E. coli</I> cells in deionized water were evaluated by impedimetric analysis of the release of cytoplasmic compounds. Because competent cells have a higher permeability after chemical treatment, the lumped mass transfer coefficient of a competent cell was approximately 6.5 times larger than that of an intact cell at room temperature. Release of cytoplasmic components was accelerated at an elevated temperature of 42 °C, which is the heat shock temperature used during bacterial transformation. At this elevated temperature, assessed lumped mass transfer coefficients of intact and competent <I>E. coli</I> cells were 9.28 × 10<SUP>−4</SUP> min<SUP>−1</SUP> and 97.10 × 10<SUP>−4</SUP> min<SUP>−1</SUP>, respectively. Significant increase in the mass transfer coefficient of the competent cell is caused by cytolysis of cells. The double layer capacitances were also assessed from the electrochemical spectra confirming the enhanced ion release from <I>E. coli</I> cells and rupture of the competent cell under prolonged exposure at the elevated temperature. Impedimetric detection of the ion release with analyses using an equivalent circuit model provides a method to evaluate mass transfer properties of biomolecules.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Mass transfer coefficients of intact and competent <I>E. coli</I> cells were determined. </LI> <LI> Impedance spectroscopy was applied for evaluation of the cellular compounds concentration. </LI> <LI> Mass transfer coefficient of a competent cell was ~6.5 times larger than that of an intact cell. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>Transcellular mass transfer coefficients of intact and competent <I>E. coli</I> cells were determined <I>via</I> an impedimetric analysis of the release of cytoplasmic compounds.
