        <P>The prototype of the cdc2 protein kinase in mammalian cells regulates its entry into mitosis by phosphorylating a group of key proteins in the major cell cycle transitions. In this study, using the mep45 gene encoding the 45 kDa major envelope protein (Mep45) of Selenomonas ruminantium, a rumen bacteria, a Mep45-fused substrate (PKTPKKAKKL-Mep45, MFS-cdc2) was cloned to detect the activity of cdc2 protein kinase. We report here on a strategy for the detection of a phosphorylation of a substrate catalyzed by cdc2 protein kinase by using a radioisotope detection technique. It is possible to constantly obtain a reasonable quantity of MFS-cdc2 for the cdc2 protein kinase assay and its cost can be as low as a synthesized peptide. Results of the study indicate that the Mep45-fused protein can be used effectively as a substrate for detecting the activity of cdc2 protein kinase and it can be used in developing a protein biochip for a high-throughput screening and also for studying protein–protein interactions.         정신분열증 환자에서 청각 인식유발전위와 임상적 호전의 연관성에 대한 예비연구

        연구목적 : 본 연구는 정신분열증 환자에게 치료에 대한 반응을 예측할 수 있는 객관적 지표를 알아보려는 노력으로 시행되었다. 방 법 : 연구대상은 정신과 진단편람 제 4권 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-Ⅳ)의 정신분열증 진단기준을 만족시키는 23명의 입원환자였다. 치료 전 또는 치료 초기에 청각 인식유발전위를 시행하였으며 임상증상의 변화는 치료 전과 치료 4주 후 양성 및 음성 증후군 척도(Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale)를 통하여 측정하였다. 결 과 : 1) 양성척도의 호전정도는 P1과 N1의 잠복기와 유의한 정 상관관계를 보이고, P3 잠복기, P2의 전위와는 유의한 역 상관관계에 있었다. 2) 음성척도의 호전정도는 P3 잠복기와 유의한 역 상관 관계를 보였다. 3) 일반정신병리척도의 호전도 또한 P3 잠복기와 유의한 역 상관관계를 보였다. 결 론 : 이러한 결과는 치료전 실시한 청각 인식유발인자가 정신분열증 환자에게 임상적 호전의 예측인자로서 가치가 있음을 시사한다. 향후 많은 환자를 대상으로 지속적인 연구가 필요하다. Objectives : The purpose of this study was to see the correlation between the auditory cognitive evoked potential and the clinical improvement in schizophrenics. Method : The subjects were 23 patients with schizophrenia. Auditory cognitive evoked potential was examined at pretreatment or acute phase of treatment. The change of symptom was assessed by the PANSS(Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale) before drug treatment and in the 4th week of treatment. Results : 1) The change of positive subsclae was positively correlated with P1 latency(p〈.05), N1 latency(p〈.05) and negatively correlated with P3 latency(p〈.05), P2 amplitude(p〈.05). 2) The change of negative subscale was negatively correlated with P3 Latency(p〈.05). 3) The change of general psychopathology subscale was negatively correlated with P3 latency(p〈.05). Conclusion : These results suggest that the auditory cognitive evoked potential in schizophrenic patients could be valuable on prediction of clinical improvement. But, further studies are required to support these results.

        Q 열에 의한 감염성 심내막염 2예

        Q fever is a zoonosis caused by Coxiella burnetii, Presenting as acute and chronic illness and it has been reported worldwide. Acute Q fever is usually asymptomatic or mild and self-limiting, but infective endocarditis is one of the most serious complications of chronic Q fever and can be fatal. Known risk factors for Q fever endocarditis are valvular heart disease, immunocompromised hosts, and pregnancy. There have been some reports on Q fever in Korea but there exists no report on Q fever endocarditis. We have experienced 2 cases of Q fever with underlying valvular heart disease; both Patients came to the hospital for evaluation of prolonged fever. Although Q fever and Q fever endocarditis are rare in Korea, Q fever endocarditis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of patient with infective endocarditis when causative microorganism cannot be identified.

        저자들은 1992년 9월20일부터 1992년 11월 7일까지 경상북도 경산시 영남대학교 교내에 위치한 삼천지에 대한 곤충상을 조사하였다. 연구 결과 총 8目 56科 121屬 132種이 서식하고 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. We studied insect fauna in the Samchun-impoundment during the period of from september 20, 1992 to November 7, 1992. The total number of insect taxa are composed of 132 spceies, 121 genera, 56 families, 8 orders including this examination.

        조선소 근로자에서의 국소진동장해 진단방법에 대한 평가

        A hand-arm vibration syndrome, local vibration illness, occurs in some workers who use hand held vibration tools. It consists of white fingers, diffusely distributed finger neuropathy, pain in the hand and arm, and a small excess risk of osteoarthritis. This study is aimed to identify effective methods to confirm local vibration illness among various health exams, which are mentioned in worker's special health exam regulation. In addition, this study is aimed to quantitatively assess the daily vibration exposure level as a major determinant of vibration illness. The subjects, 46 vibration workers, were selected according to the results of the first special health exam about vibration hazards at shipbuilding industry in 1997. They all had experiences of work related blanching of fingers. Fifteen controls, who had no vibration exposure at all, were also recruited to compare their test results with the results of vibration workers. We adopted I subjective and 6 objective tests to evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility for confirming local vibration illness. These tests were history taking of subjective symptoms according to the Stockholm classification, checking blood pressure of finger, checking grasp power, checking finger skin temperature, nail-bed pressing test, vibration perceptional threshold test, and skin prick test for pain perception. Among these, checking skin temperature, nail-bed pressing test, and vibration perception test included cold water provocations. We also estimated some vibration exposure levels of hand held vibration tools by using previously published data from one automobile company. In conclusion, history taking of subjective symptoms according to the Stockholm classification, nail-bed pressing test, and vibration perceptional threshold test were discovered to be effective to diagnose local vibration illness. Furthermore, vibration perceptional threshold on right fingers showed a dose-response relationship to daily vibration exposure levels. The parameter β was 0.0005(±0.0002), and statistically significant by REM(random effects model).

        목적: To evaluate the positive effects of teratogenic risk counseling in pregnant women inadvertently exposed to medication in early pregnancy. 방법: In a prospective cohort study, 250 pregnant women exposed to medications in early pregnancy were recruited after teratogenic risk counseling at Korean MotherSafe Counsling Center, which has given information about teratogenic risk of medication to pregnant women. Positive effects are evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS) for perception on teratogenic risk and percent prefering termination of pregnancy after medication exposures in pregnancy. 결과: Mean age of participants is 31.8±5.3years old. Mean gravidity is 2.4±2.1. Medications exposed in early pregnancy include antibiotics, analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, antacid and so on. Mean perceptive teratogen risk before and after the counseling is 33.9±1.6% and 15.8±1.6%, respectively. And mean percent prefering termination of pregnancy (≥5) before and after the counseling is 31.1±1.9% and 13.5±1.7%, respectively. 결론: Our data suggest that information on teratogenic risk for pregnant women inadvertently exposed to medication may have positive effects for reassuring pregnant women and preventing termination of pregnancy.

        Risk of lymphadenopathy from SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in Korea: a self-controlled case series analysis

        OBJECTIVES: To assess the risk of lymphadenopathy following severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccination. METHODS: A self-controlled case series design was used to determine whether the risk of lymphadenopathy was higher in the 1-day to 42-day risk interval after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination compared to the control period. In addition, subgroup analyses were conducted according to baseline characteristics, time since vaccination, and sensitivity analyses adjusted for the length of the risk interval. RESULTS: The risk of developing lymphadenopathy in the risk interval (1-42 days) after COVID-19 vaccination compared to the control period was significantly increased, with a relative incidence (RI) of 1.17 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.17 to 1.18) when the first, second, and third doses were combined. The RI was greater on the day of vaccination (1.47; 95% CI, 1.44 to 1.50). In subgroup analyses by baseline characteristics, a significantly increased risk or trend toward increased risk was observed in most subgroups except for those aged 70 years and older, with a significant increase in risk in younger individuals, those with a Charlson’s comorbidity index <5, and those who received mRNA vaccines (mRNA-1273>BNT162b2). Within the 1-day to 42-day post-dose risk period, the relative risk was highest during the 1-day to 7-day post-dose period (1.59; 95% CI, 1.57 to 1.60) compared to the control period, and then the risk declined. In the sensitivity analysis, we found that the longer the risk window, the smaller the RI. CONCLUSIONS: SARS-CoV-2 vaccination is associated with a statistically significant increase in the risk of lymphadenopathy, and this risk was observed only with mRNA vaccines.

        Drug Release from Xyloglucan Beads Coated with Eudragit for Oral Drug Delivery

        Xyloglucan (XG), which exhibits thermal sol to gel transition, non-toxicity, and low gelation concentration, is of interest in the development of sustained release carriers for drug delivery. Drug-loaded XG beads were prepared by extruding dropwise a dispersion of indomethacin in aqueous XG solution (2 wt.-%) through a syringe into corn oil. Enteric coating of XG bead was performed using Eudragit L 100 to improve the stability of XG bead in gastrointestinal (GI) track and to achieve gastroresistant drug release. Release behavior of indomethacin from XG beads in vitro was investigated as a function of loading content of drug, pH of release medium, and concentration of coating agent. Adhesive force of XG was also measured using the tensile test. Uniform-sized spherical beads with particle diameters ranging from 692 ± 30 to 819 ± 50 μm were obtained. The effect of drug content on the release of indomethacin from XG beads depended on the medium pH. Release of indomethacin from XG beads was retarded by coating with Eudragit and increased rapidly with the change in medium pH from 1.2 to 7.4. Adhesive force of XG was stronger than that of Carbopol 943 P, a well-known commercial mucoadhesive polymer, in wet state. Results indicate the enteric-coated XG beads may be suitable as a carrier for oral drug delivery of irritant drug in the stomach.

      • Naked non-waxy barley cultivar “Dahan” with good properties for noodle containg barley flour

        Current consumers have interest in nutrition and health. So, the interest in barley for other food and industrial applications is increasing. Noodles, which have been consumed largely in korea, are usually made from wheat flour, salt and appropriate amount of water. A New Six-rowed Naked Barley Cultivar “Dahan” was developed in 2012, have high winter hardness, lodging tolerance and good noodle property. It was crossed in 2001, and an elit line was selected in 2010 and designated as ‘Iksan 106’. It showed good agronomic performance in the regional yield trials (RYT) from 2010 to 2012. The average heading and maturing dates of “Dahan” were April 29 and June 3 in paddy field, which were two day earlier than those of the check cultivar ‘Saessalbori’ respectively. The new cultivar, “Dahan”, had 92cm of culm length and 3.9cm of spike length. It showed 625 spikes per m2, 54 grains per spike, 31.3 g of 1,000-grain weight, and 815 g of test weight. “Dahan” showed better resistance to BaYMV (Barley yellow mosaic virus) than those of the check cultivar. Its average yield of the pearled grain in the regional yield trial was 4.32 MT/ha in paddy field, which were 16% higher than those of the check cultivar. It showed higher breakdown and setback than those of the check cultivar. Texture properties of noodle was better in hardness, adhesiveness, chewiness. This cultivar would be suitable for the industrial application as noodle and bread.

      • Composition of Korean colored barley varieties with the different degree of pearling

        Anthocyanins are the primary pigments in black, blue, and purple cereal grains. Recently, anthocyanins have been recognized as health-enhancing substances due to their antioxidant activity. Anthocyanin-pigmented barley grains can be a stable source of anthocyanins as well as β-glucan. Cloered barley as purple, blue and black barley consumptions are rapidlly growing presently due to their healthy functional food ingredients in Korea. Color barley cultivars accumulate purple pigments in the stem, awn, lemma, palea, and pericarp during seed maturation. The large consumption of barley in human foods is almost pearled products. Here we investigated composition of pearled barley and pearling by-products of korean colored barley varieties by degree of pearling. Barley grains from four hull-less colored barley varieties, Zasoojeongchal, Boseokchal Ganghochung and Huknarae were pearled to various degrees(5-50%). The composition (β -glucan, total phenol, proanthocyanidin and total anthocyanin) of pearled barley fractions flour and pearled barley grain was determined. β-glucan content was not changed seriously in pearled barley grain according to increasing pearling degree. Total phenol and proanthocyanidin content was decreased. β-glucan content was increased in pearling by-products according to increasing pearling degree and total phenol and proanthocyanidin content was decreased. Total anthocyanin content also was decreased in pearled barley fractions flour by the degree of pearling.
