Vol.25 No.5
Mandibular incisor crowding is one of the most common features of malocclusion and is interesting characteristic in view of relapse and stability after orthodontic treatment. There are many potential factors in the etiology of lower anterior crowding. The tooth size variation is one of them, but biologic significance for the faciolingual width of the teeth has been overlooked. Peck and Peck reported that persons with ideal mandibular incisor alignment were shown to have incisor with smaller mesiodistal and larger faciolingual dimensions than persons with incisor crowding. On the basis of these findings they suggested MD/FL index as a clinical guideline for the assessment for lower incisor crowding. The present study was undertaken to examine the relationship between mandibular incisor crowding and mandibular incisor dimension, and determine their correlation with arch length discrepancy. 154 dental casts of people from 11 to 17 years of age were made, and were divided into normal group with irregularity index less than of 1, and crowding group with irregularity index greater than 1. The casts were measured and analyzed statistically. The results were as follows. 1. The mean mesiodistal width for mandibular incisor was larger in crowding group, and has significant difference in central inciosr measurement. There are no significant differences in the faciolingul width and MD/FL index. 2. Irregularity index has significant correlation coefficients with mesiodistal width and MD/FL index for mandibular incisor in crowding group, but no correlation with faciolingual width. It also has correlation with maxillary and mandibular arch length discrepancy, total tooth material, mandibular intercanine width, and mandibular inter first premolar width. 3. Upper and lower arch length discrepancy have significant correlation with mesiodistal width of mandibular incisor and overbite, but have no correlation with faciolingual width. Lower arch lenth discrepancy has significant correlation with MD/FL index for mandibular incisor and upper arch length discrepancy has correlation with MD/FL index form mandibular lateral incisor. 4. Significant differences were observed between normal and crowding group for the mandibular arch length discrepancy and overbite.

Objectives : This present study was conducted to explore the reliability and the validity of Clinician Administered PTSD Scale for Children and Adolescents Korean version (CAPS-CA) Mcthods : The Subjects were children and adolescents (8-13yrs) from different places: a certain elementary school, three orphanages, a general hospital, and two neuropsychiathc local clinics. Only subjects who experienced a catastrophic traumatic event were tested by CAPS-CA, CDI, RCMAS, and TSC. Rcsults : The range of correlations between item-criterion were .67-.84. The coefficients of internal consistency were .87. and test-retest reliability was .90, were all the coefficients in the proper range. Inter-correlations of CAPS-CA, CDI, RCMAS, and TSC scale showed significant correlation. TSC showed the highest correlation coefficient. CAPS-CA can be a useful clinician-administered diagnostic instrument for children and adolescents PTSD symptoms. Conclusion : The reliability and the validity of CAPS-CA were confirmed. CAPS-CA could be applied for diagnostic purposes of PTSD in children and adolescents.

Recent studies demonstrated that human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) share molecular and cellular characteristics with bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). hMSCs have the potential to differentiate into neural cells. Gangliosides are complex glycophingolipids with one or more sialic acids, the major components of cytoplasmic cell membranes. Numerous studies confirmed that the types of gangliosides and their expression levels are developmentally controlled and cell type-specific. Our recent studies proposed that expression of gangliosides is closely related to neural differentiation of embryonic stem cells in vitro. In this study, we investigated whether hMSCs are capable of differentiating into neural cells, and we analyzed the role of gangliosides in the neuronal differentiation of hMSCs. FACs analysis showed that the established cells have MSC characteristics. The cells did expressed MSC-specific surface antigene (CD44 and CD105), but not the hematopoietic markers CD45 and CD117. Next, hMSCs were differentiated into neuronal cell with induction media for 30h. Neuronal induced cells maintenance with differentiation media for 2weeks. High-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) showed that gangliosides GM3, GD3 and GD1a expressed in differentiated into neuronal cells for 2weeks, especially GD3 increased comparison to control cell. Immunofluorescence staining also agreed with the results of HPTLC analysis. These differentially expressed gangliosides suggest that gangliosides may have specific functions in stem cell and during neuronal differentiation. Therefore, thess results also suggest that regulation of gangliosides expression have used as differentiation marker of neuronal cell from hMSCs.

The objective of this research was to determine proper concentration and treatment duration of a glycerine solution for making preserved flowers of rose 'Vital'. Quality of preserved flowers was evaluated by measuring percentage changes in flower size and weight. Glycerine concentration significantly affected percentage changes in flower size and weight. However, treatment duration with a glycerine solution had little effect as conwared with concentration on percentage changes in flower size and weight. Flower size of preserved flowers treated with 25 and 50% (v/v) glycerine solution decreased to 80.9 and 81.1% of the initial size, respectively, and showed the least changes in size among all treatments. Weight of 25 and 50% glycerine solution-treated flowers was 66.7 and 93.8% of the weight of the initial weight, respectively. Among treatment durations tested, treatment for 48 hours was the most effective in maintaining the flower size. Flowers treated with 25 and 50% glycerine solutions were more appropriate to be used in floral decorations than those of air dried, silica gel dried, fi'eeze dried, and hot air dried. Sizes of dried flowers decreased to 65% of the initial sizes. Flower weight decreased to 30% of the initial weight in air dried and 17% in hot air and freeze dried flowers. In conclusion, flowers treated with 25 or 50% (v/v) glycerine solution for 48 hours were the most similar to fresh flowers and were appropriate for floral decoration use.
