Variations of heart rate variability under varied physical environmental factors
( Keita Ishibashi ),( Akira Yasukouchi ) 한국감성과학회 2001 추계학술대회 Vol.2001 No.-
In this study, we estimated the behavior of the diversity of physiological responses under varied physical environmental factors by measuring variations of heart rate variability (HRV), an index of activity of cardiac autonomic control. Seven healthy young male adults consented and participated in the study. The environmental conditions consisted of thermal, lighting, and acoustic conditions. Two components of HRV were measured. one was the low frequency (LF) component of HRV, which provided a quantitative index of the sympathetic and parasympathetic (vagal) activities controlling the heart rate (HR). The other component measured was the high frequency (HF) component, which provided an index of the vagal tone. The percent contribution of physical environmental factors to the variations in HRV indices were calculated by ANOVA. The contribution of physical environmental factors to the variations in HR was higher than the contribution of HF and LF. However, the contribution of these factors was lower than the contribution related with individual difference in all indices. This result showed that the individual diversity of physiological responses is not a negligible quantity.
The Effects of RGB Wavelength of Polychromatic LED Light Sources on Melatonin Suppression
( Saki Tanaka ),( Akira Yasukouchi ) 한국감성과학회 2014 춘계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.-
The purpose of this study was to examine how the composition of red, green and blue energy in the polychromatic light affected melatonin suppression and to consider the appropriate wavelength configuration which suitable for interior lighting with less impact on the non-visual effects. We used the light-emitting diode (LED) as a light source which consisted of three monochromatic lights (red, green and blue). The polychromatic light (300lx with 5000K) was employed as a reference condition, which included the least blue part of energy with Ra (color rendering index) kept more than 80. There were four lighting conditions; two of four consisted of red and blue each combined with constant green which have the same total energy as the reference condition, the other two were non blue and blue each combined with the same energy of red and green as that of reference condition. The number of conditions was five including the reference condition. Subjects were 8 university students (age of 20 - 25) who didn`t have a problem of health. They were instructed to keep a regular sleep-wake schedule 5-7days prior to the experiment. They were exposed to all of lighting conditions in a different day between 24:00 and 26:00 followed by exposure to dim light (under 10 lx) from 19:00 to 24:00. Saliva samples were collected every 60 minutes between 20:00 and 24:00 and every 30 minutes between 24:00 and 26:00.

Korean and Japanese, both people have a lot of similarity and complexity in terms of physical constitution and culture. This study might be the first implementation that tries to figure out constitutional differences of both people in scientific way. In this study, subjects were from each country, had been exposed 5℃ environment wearing each country's traditional costume- so called Hanbok and Kimono- and all through this experiment we'd compared physiological responses and analyzed differences of cold response go with their own clothing culture. We've obtained following results: Korean had kept maintaining low mean skin temperature basically in cold circumstance, compared with Japanes, have stronger cold tolerance. However, there's no significant difference between Korean and Japanese. Owing to huge influence of wearing other country's traditional costume itself even makes differences of rectal temperature in a cold environment. In addition, in a period of time that wearing other country's traditional costume, thermal sensation would be different according to exposed surrounding temperature.
